The vile scum that support John McCain will, I hope either be sued up the wazoo or arrested. Over the past couple of weeks a hate DVD has been circulated in Sunday newspapers. It started in Florida, came to my own house last week as it did to houses in Ohio. It was the excuse a bunch of domestic terrorists used to toss some kind of pepper or tear gas into a mosque on Friday. The room that it landed in happened to have women and children in it. Six and seven year old children who escaped from Iraq and Syria to come to the US now want to go back home.
Lest anyone think the DVD is just an independent enterprise, some of our military colleges have invited the makers of the film to come and offer lectures.
First they came for the gays, but gays are going more mainstream now so now they’re coming for the Muslims, who will be next?
The thing is, I doubt that the Dayton police are going to be very vigilant in finding the perps. I’d like to be proven wrong. And with the economy tanking there will be more and more angry people looking for scapegoats. And the rethugs will be more than happy to oblige and point to "evil brown people" or any other "other" that they choose. Because looking inside yourself to work on your own issues is much harder than beating up on someone else.
So who else got the DVD and has figured out what to do with it? We’ve already complained to the Inquirer, a fat lot of good that will do.

And, of course, there were all the claims from the right-wingers this week claiming that the financial meltdown has been caused by writing mortgages for minorities. Disgusting.
It’s who they are and what they do. They are not Christians in any sense of the word. They really aren’t. Always easier to scapegoat someone else.
And of course I forgot to mention that tonight started Rosh Hashanah which in a sense ritualizes scapegoats.
Many Muslims don’t have mortgages. They’re not supposed to participate in activities that charge interest for loans as per the Koran.
Mace-nacht?
This is a horror. Where is our federal Civil Rights department? There was a time, when religious houses were burned or bombed, that they would step in. Not so much anymore.
Diary recommended.
Coming up on the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht on Nov. 8. I may preach about that. The parallels are way to scary!
Those who do not learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them [rough paraphrase]…
The DVD was inserted in our Fargo, ND newspaper this weekend. Along with a long list, according to the packaging, of other newspapers in the region.
The marketers of hate know neither shame nor honor. The face in their mirror is the face of evil.
Small edit
How terrible–I had not heard of the mosque story. Thank you.
More about these DVDs here and follow-up here.
This is perverse and very evil. Those poor children.
Recommended and Dugg you, Deb
Rev Deb, please send a copy of your materials to Representative Keith Ellison, (Our Civil Rights Lawyer – member of House Judicary Committee — and American Muslim) and suggest that the Civil Rights Division of DOJ needs to take a look at this. He would be in a position, at a minimum, to demand that DOJ take a look at the case, even though he is not from Ohio. (at least he can write a letter the might be read.) If DOJ asks questions this will move the Ohio Civil Rights Commission to get moving. I would also make sure that the Governor of Ohio knows about the matter — perhaps people in Ohio can do what is necessary to accomplish this.
The Greater Dayton Area always had a fairly active Council of Churches, and if you know anyone in the Ministry in the Dayton Area, it might be good to let them know this is an issue beyond their region. There also is a regional office of the American Friends Service Committee in Dayton — they might be very interested in getting involved. It would be good if the Mainstream and Liberal types made clear they care about this, and want a full investigation.
Wow, thanks for reporting this RevDeb, I didn’t hear about this either.
I blame George Bush
I’ll be out for much of the day, but those who want to add to the story are free to do so.
Also, it looks like a concerted effort is needed to blast the newspapers who allowed this garbage to be inserted into their
garbagepapers. It would seem to me that an action item is needed and the whole community needs to get behind it.We allow these things to go unpunished and we wind up with our own Kristallnacht.
another story:
Editor and Publisher has been following the story.
The Oregonian saying,
the reply:
Like I said, we need to do something. 70 newspaper markets have been carpet bombed with this incendiary bomb.
The Tampa Tribune was supposed to have included in their Sunday edition for the 2nd time yesterday. This after the SP Times exposed those behind the DVD. Haven’t checked to see if it was actually in the paper. This is the same paper that led the witch hunt of Dr Sami al-Arian and his family.
Gosh Rev Deb why did you do it the lead says “Mosque gased after hate DVD stuffed in newspaper by revdev” You are just going to have to stop stuffing those hate DVDs into newspapers
