A couple of years ago Pachacutec and some of the FDL folks tried to get us organized—as organized as firepups can be—in our states and regions. We had googlegroups set up for 44 of the 50 states and there was a goodly list of folks living in PA. Personally I think we need to find one another again.
If Joe is going to run against Scrapple—and right now he is seriously considering it—we need to figure out what our possible role in the race would be. In order to do that we might want to introduce ourselves to one another along with what area of the state and cong. district we live in. Perhaps it’s time to revive the google group—or something else. Open to suggestions but I’ll let you know up front, I’m not a big FB fan.
Anyway, I’ve gotten to know Joe a bit since moving to PA in the summer of ’07. I’ve been pissed off at him for some of his votes, ESPECIALLY the FISA vote and let him know it. We have agreed on a lot of things and disagreed on several things as well. But in a contest between him and Scrapple, as of now, I’d have to back Joe. Can’t trust Scrapple as far as we can throw him, as they say. So please, introduce yourselves. I, for one want to know who is around and wanting to get organized. And at this point in time, just finding one another would be good IMHO.

I’m living in Joe’s district, the 7th which is much of Delaware County and part of Chester (where I live). I know there are a few of us around.
go Rev Deb. A dear friend of mine Chuck Ardo is Governor Rendell’s press secretary. Have not talked with him about all of this but would put money on it that he will be backing Specter if Rendell says so.
If you want I could ask him any questions you might like me to ask

I’m in Fattah’s District, the fighting 2nd (North and West Philly, part of Mont. Co.) and would be glad to coordinate efforts to unseat Specter. Making use of the existing google groups is a good start, but I can’t locate the group you are referring to. Can you provide a link?
Folks, if you don’t know RevDeb, you should. She organized several of us in MA to start visiting Sens. Kerry/Kennedy offices, and then got us involved in the Lamont campaign. Now she’s in PA. She’s a tiger. Join in.
Go Rev. Deb! It’s important to get this started up now, before the “powers that be” give Arlen their imprimatur. Arlen should prove that the leopard has, in fact, changed his spots. I see no indication of that. It’s one thing to be “independent”…but it’s quite another to show that by repeatedly voting for the worst of the legislation and against the best bills laid before him.
Check to see if there are progressive clubs on college campuses. Get Sestak out to those for coffees before he announces. Show everyone how Arlen is voting against their interests and just playin’ the role of a fifth column. Even point out how his “defection” has actually made it more difficult for Obama to get a woman or minority into the Supreme Court (because to get a nomination to the floor requires one vote from the minority in the Judiciary Committee). When Arlen jumped the aisle, he took away that vote.
Thanks, RevDeb. I’ve gotten to the point where I think we need position papers from these folks before we support them. Something in writing, anyway. They say whateverthehell they want to get our money, but all too often, they turn around and vote like republicans.
I am next door to you in the 6th – but I pretend that Rep. Sestak is my rep. I campaigned for him all over Delaware County, at first to get rid of slimy Weldon, but I liked Sestak and he spoke well about needing change in Health Care.
I think Sestak would do well in many other parts of PA. First we must stop Rendell/Rooney from “clearing the field” for Arlen Narcissist. Some have suggested a Protest at the PA Dem meeting in Pittsburgh in June. Tell them PA Dems deserve an Open Primary!
June Democratic State Committee Meeting
The Westin Convention Center, Pittsburgh
Friday, June 5th and Saturday, June 6th
Hey RevDeb! Good rundown of the field. Thanks.
Aside appropriate to the discussion, or not:
I think scrapple has more cornmeal in it and haggis little or none. Childhood memories here are of sort of a gooey, nondescript, rather bland hamburger-like stuff. I think you could slice pieces off the hunk, but only with care, as they tended to fall apart easily.
Altogether a moniker choice rather true to its source, I’d say. ;->
Hey Deb, if I’m still in the area I’ll help.
howdy Rev !
didn’t see you on the Sunday Night Sestak thread, but it was a workday for ya, and I didn’t stay through the end.
was actually impressed with the way he stood in on Sunday night – no double talk, no condescending DemSpeak, he was surprisingly straight forward.
I’m far away but my heart is with you all == I can’t imagine any Democrat being worse than SnArlen. Let us know what we can do to help you out, okay?
Sestak may not be the best Democrat, or make us happy most of the time, but I can see his background playing well everywhere in PA.
Besides, I have a good friend, a lady preacher, who has his ear. What could be better?
I donated 25.00 to Al Franken’s campaign, despite the fact that I live in Wisconsin. I’m all for the good guys/women…no matter where they are located. I don’t know anything about Sestak right now, other than what’s written here and I will look him up. I encourage people to pay close attention to congressional and senatorial races in other states, and to donate to those people they feel will make a positive change in government.
Hi all. Back again.
Two things— I have to go diving to find the google group. I have a meeting in 20 minutes so I can’t do it now.
And I’ve already informed my spouse that if this primary is on that he should expect that we will be hosting lots of FDL folks in our spare rooms.
Ill be back later tonight. Hopefully this diary won’t get closed by the auto de fe.
So we still have a google group for the roots project in PA. There are 65 people on it and I’ve posted a message. If you want to join it, send me a message at my screen name at mac dot com and I’ll be glad to add you.
