A moment of truly spine tingling synchronicity:(cue the Twilight Zone theme music…): Just as Clint Eastwood was proving that 82 is too old to vamp, back in Afghanistan, a member of the people once described as Clint Eastwood in a turban was proving that 70 is not too old to die fighting.
*A nightime raid by Australians had drawn the ire of President Karzai. Responding, a U.S. spokesman offered the current blanket categorization that if you are military age and dead, you are a Taliban. The wrinkle here is that we now recognize that Pashtuns never quit.
Now, let me say at once as a nineteen year old with noncomforming paperwork, that I am fully in sympathy with a rule of thumb that recognizes my military worth.
That said, the idea that any random dead 70 year old is in fighting trim does give pause, closing the circle back to Clint who just yesterday had occasion to question the wisdom of undertaking our excellent Afghan adventure, albeit his 82 year old brain blamed Obama for going in rather than his real blunder, doubling down.

I kinda admire the old man’s ethics; never send a young man to do something you wouldn’t do yourself.
Our American senior citizens aught to be as bold. At least to consider a restrained inculcation of their symbolic heroism onto the shoulders of our youth. Rec’d
I’m curious. What is “nonconforming paperwork”?
Although the last thing I can remember (of which I am really sure) is going to sleep and I was 19, I currently find myself with the papers of some guy who cannot be me, because he gets Medicare. I figure that the paperwork (which I have brought to the attention of the appropriate agencies-I watch for correction daily in the mail) as well as this body which is not the one I recall, resulted from a mixup when the Aliens sent me back from their ship. I was pretty confused until I saw that documentary, Black Men In Suits, or Men in Black Suits, whatever it was, and I heard about that neuralizer thingee. So I play the hand they dealt me but I know with absolute certainty that I am 19. (BTW If any “probing” went on, I don’t wanna know about it…) Go here for fuller details
Mullah Omar didn’t let the loss of one eye slow him down, and neither should we.
