In an interesting post at Global Security, Stephen Lendman feels that Ahmadinejad actually did win the election by over 10% and that Mousavi is just obeying CIA dictates by challenging the results.
Whaddy’all think?
Personally, I don’t really favor the idea as that echoes Reagan’s old charge that people were rebelling in El Salvador just because they were being hoodwinked by "outside agitators" and because it makes all the "color revolutions" of recent years all appear to be just CIA plots.

Of course, there just has to be a CIA conspiracy theory.
Ditto what EvilDrPuma said. This country seem to be quite schizophrenic about the CIA: they are painted alternately as either the main root of everything that happens worldwide wherein nothing happens but through them or so incompetent they are unable to do anything right.
The syndrome you describe is quite common among the paranoid. It’s how they account for nothing ever coming of their omnipotent conspirators.
why does the CIA have to behind it ???
is the CIA the only institution on the planet that has an interest in the outcome of this election
is the CIA the only institution on the planet with the ability or desire to challenge the results ???
did you ever consider that the opposition in Iran might want to contest the election because they want to WIN the election
that motive isn’t more believable and compelling than some delusional CIA plot
what’s next ???
did the Sun came up today as the result of a CIA plot ???
got any clue how stupid people sound when people say things like this ???
life itself does not exist to serve as a cia plot
Exactly how would the CIA be buying the opposition? That idea doesn’t pass the giggle test. Mousavi is not a radical liberal, he’s a former Prime Minister for this regime.
Fortunately, it looks like the Iranian people know that the idea that this is all a CIA plot doesn’t pass the giggle test either.
Apparently the dissidents are asking for help, but other than moral support I can’t figure what sort of help we could actually give them. I suppose we can put pressure on Ban-Ki Moon and the Security Council to do something. But the Chinese would likely veto anything, because the current regime is more-or-less a client of theirs.
Destabilization of Iran on CIA agenda with Congressional funding for quite a while. Remember Sy Hersch’s disclosures? I think they are doing impressively well this week over there, the CIA. Mousavi is a corporatist. Yes, west-leaning sophisticate. Ahmadej. is a populist. Not a corporatist. Hmmmm. One more puppet for the US and Israel, Mousavi? Or maybe civil war might be a nice idea, destabilization, not good for Middle East, but one more country for US to enter and occupy? All that juicy oil. And Israel, heads Israel wins, tails Iran loses. And lots of propaganda, the veneer of human rights?
Yes, some noble passions of some Iranians and Americans to be betrayed once again? What else is new.
Our media couldn’t recognize 2 stolen elections in our own country, and yet what confidence it has declaring this one was fraudulent. Wow. And beating those drums so earnestly.
When neocons are concerned about human rights, or cherry-picking psuedo progressives are, something is terribly wrong. Global gamesmanship.
When the Obama administration shows caring about torture victims or Gazan victims or whatever, I will trust they care about real freedom and human rights. Otherwise global games, corporate jockeying and manipulation. Blood will be spilt, money will be made, not by the same parties.
Rich… I am just reading your detractors. I hope you read this. My gut is telling me you are on the money. Wow… what is it going to take for people to stop being played in this country?
Just some of my thoughts:
From the Global Security Article: “…Four candidates participated, each of whom was vetted and approved by Iran’s Guardian Council and most importantly Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei…”
The Guardian Council ok’ed these candidates — are they in on the CIA operation too?
Also, I think it’s important to note that not everyone in ‘Ahmadinejad’s Conservative Camp’ was happy with him. However, it was abundantly clear that the powerful Khamenei and Ahmadinejad were as close as could be.

About the Polls: How reliable and trust-worthy can ’state-run/monitored’ polls actually be? In the past Iran has been known to shut down Iranian polling companies if the results don’t conform.
