Specter is again changing the political map by becoming a Democrat. He has had so many roles to play that most of us here in Philadelphia have at least one point in our life cheered Senator Specter, and at another point condemned something about him, especially those old enough to be upset with his “Single Bullet Theory” to the Kennedy Assassination.
One of the things that perplexed many assassination buffs is why Chief Justice Earl Warren and the Warren Commission and many of Kennedy’s friends wanted to believe that Oswald acted alone. Specter’s heavy involvement with the Kennedy Assassination investigation implies he has important tidbits, especially since President Bush declassified Lee Harvey Oswald’s back and forth dealing with both the US and Soviet Governments. Those of us in Philadelphia, or who are part of causes Specter participates in, have less problems reaching him, or talking to people who might be able to, then those far away.
Today many Americans including in part our President are renouncing Secret Government. Some think more would be accomplished if former Vice President Cheney were indicted for his torture memos, but Cheney’s lack of respect for democratic principles, has many historic precedents. Due process and most other rights were infringed on under Nixon, Reagan, McCarthyism and during both World Wars. If the JFK assassination came back into focus, many more Americans would wake up to the dangers of secret government. Specter’s role as healer between the Republican and Democratic Party is now over, perhaps he could be encouraged to become America’s educator on history instead.
Specter’s Single Bullet Theory to the Kennedy assassination was suggested to delay the government having to publicly examine the false trail that led to the erroneous conclusion that Fidel Castro was involved to get even with the CIA for trying to assassinate him, as the Miami anti-Castro community was screaming. This back when the average American had no idea that the US government was involved in assassination attempts. President Johnson was expressing fear that this blaming of Fidel Castro might lead to war with the Soviets.
Among other things the government hired the Mafia to kill Castro. Several Mafia leaders were disturbed that both JFK and his brother Attorney General Robert Kennedy were making a concerted effort to put crime leaders in jail, they felt it was a betrayal of trust.
Using gangsters for political purposes dates back to World War when after the Mafia was very helpful to the war effort by exposing the agents that Hitler had infiltrate on the docks in the guise of pretending to be Italian-Americans. The Mafia and Jimmy Hoffa were encouraged to take over the then internationalist antiwar Teamsters Union to stop a wartime strike. Then, at the start of the Cold War, without contemplating the long-term consequences, the Mafia was encouraged to infiltrate the record industry to chase radicals and communists out. Communists during World War II were the most gung-ho for the war after the Hitler-Stalin Pack ended, and it was part of the war effort to encourage gung-ho haters of Hitler who had been slow to join the war effort to have prominent places in the media. Much later during Contra-gate the US government sold drugs to gangsters to raise money to support the Contras in Nicaragua.
Dick Cheney is preaching that secret government kept us safe from a second 9/11 attack and only secrecy and rough treatment of suspects can protect the US from future 9/11 assaults. He will say the same thing to any jury and if convicted will still preach that giving rights to suspects is making America vulnerable to another 9/11 attack. Incidentally Cheney has been accused of other things such as ordering the two 9/11 planes heading for Washington DC not to be shot down, if not actually a crime the relatives of the four who died on the ground could sue Cheney in civil court like the relatives of O.J. Simpson have done. Perhaps its best to find out things that Cheney has done that he wouldn’t be able to brag about to a jury or Truth Commission.
It’s true after many years of southern resistance the courts finally proved racism wrong, so I may be wrong, and thus that trying people like Cheney in the long run might end up having a positive effect. However another possibility is when Americans tire of Democrats Republicans still believing is secrecy will take over again.
Incidentally after Bush, in 2003 withdrew US troops from Saudi Arabia, bin Laden would have had to worry that an adrenaline-charged US after a second attack, would among other things, rush troops back into Saudi Arabia. Today Cheney, Rush Limbaugh, and Beck and others on Fox News are claiming that civil liberties for suspects will lead to another attack, while almost everyone one else acts like the danger is over. Cheney claiming he is a martyr for national security from a prison cell would be a way to make the possibility of a person craving secrecy to become President when the Democrats lose control again. Senator Specter has the inside information to prove that Cheney is wrong in his claim that our secrets protect us more than they hurt us.
I believe that a war with Russia was possible if the false leads to Castro were pursued which is why Chief Justice Earl Warren, and several close friends of Kennedy wanted to believe the possibility that Oswald acted alone. Arlen Specter may have some important information. But remember Specter knows only the nuances of the false trail to Castro. However all the Kennedy Assassination documents President Bush declassified (if Specter would put them in focus) would let many Americans know that Cheney and Limbaugh’s call to return to secret government endangers us all.

Sometimes horrible things like torture (or more) are done, in the eyes of the perpetrator, for the first time, for extremely desperate reasons.
The history of what has gone wrong often gets documented back to the early days of the Cold war, but during World War II, wrong was done, for more desperate reasons. There was also total senselessness back then like the firebombing of the entire city of Dresden Germany. One exception to the lack of early criticism was when the Japanese Ambassador was sent a coded wire, to announce the next morning that the peace negotiations failed and thus Japan had no choice but to go to war, which was secretly broken into and listened to. This lead to the claim that if the commanders in the field had been alerted, then far fewer Americans would have died at Pearl Harbor. This isn’t certain because the US expected an invasion of the Philippines or Guam and the Japanese called off their invasion of Pearl Harbor because the bombing was so successful that they didn’t see any reason to waste Japanese soldiers lives occupying the island. So had the US not been surprised and instead quickly fought back, many US GI’s would have died from the planned invasion.
I imaging that all during the war, British and American officials made the decision not to inform various US and German ships at sea that the Germans were coming so as not to let Hitler know his secret code had been broken that they would die unless they took drastic action. Imagine, you yourself, having to chose whether you would inform otherwise doomed Americans and others on merchant ships, to quickly change course of get into the lifeboats.
While be argue with Cheney and Rush Limbaugh whether torture saved lives, let’s entertain the possibility that the first time it was authorized, things were desperate. If torture started back after 2003, when suddenly there were no more indications of an al Qaeda attack planed on the US, after US troops were withdrawn from Saudi Arabia, and bin Laden had to worry that an adrenaline-charged US after another 9/11, going back into sacred Muslim territory, the Bush administration might have been terrified that no new information of a terror attack was pending, and found the only possible way they could get suspects to say that a terror attack was pending was to torture them. Discussing this possibility, might lead to Cheney or someone else admitting that eventually torture happened for less and less reason.
The fact that the US government routinely kept secrets from itself during World War II, made it easy for later on for there to be periods where the CIA and FBI had no idea of what the other agency knew or was doing.
Back to the original posting, let’s suggest that the first time Specter thought “A Single Bullet theory” was possible, and the Warren Commission including the renowned Chief Justice Earl Warren wanted to believe it was so, was to prevent toxic false leads that Castro killed Kennedy to get even, from being publicly investigated, but as time went on the ruse was kept up for less and less reason.

The Single Bullet Theory was needed so that the ssassination could be pinned on Oswald (alone), so that no real investigation of Kennedy’s murder would be needed.
Any real investigation would have revealed the CIA’s fingerprints all over the assassination. And would have led inexorably to Lyndon Johnson and others who held too much power, including J. Edgar Hoover and Richard Helms.
The fact you cite McAdams says that you’ve bought into a pack of lies.
As you must know, the SBT depends on moving Kennedy’s back wound about 6 inches, up to the base of his neck, which is what that liar Gerald Ford ADMITTED DOING.

I wish you had because experience tells me it causes confusion to wear two hats during a discussion or debate.
If the false trail that Castro killed Kennedy was dwelt upon, and Russia or Cuba when trying to disprove it headed for material linking President Johnson to the murder, nuclear war will Russia like Lyndon Johnson expressed fear of was very possible.
Let’s all be thankful that, that didn’t happen, and stop the endless harassment of Arlen Specter, for stopping a nuclear war.
Then later Conspiracy Buffs understated the Lyndon Johnson angle, and since Lyndon Johnson became a slave to Kennedy’s memories doing everything Kennedy wanted. It discouraged Chief Justice Earl Warren and other friends of Kennedy from insinuation that Johnson might have been involved.
So the Single Bullet Theory started out as necessary to stop a nuclear war, then was allowed to linger for other reasons.
Let’s encourage Senator Specter and Kennedy to say a few words about at least their inner feelings and thank everyone who brings the subject up no matter from what angle, and realize that the claim that warterboading is the major thing the US did wrong, is helping past rot fester and making it more likely that some group sponsoring another terror attack will make those believing in secret government again in charge.
