We been crying wolf for years but when a real wolf attacks somehow we don’t even notice.
See “Report of Motive in Recruiter Attack” at NY Times,
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/03/us/03recruit.html
Many think terror attacks are all FBI coached or done by others pretending to be Muslims such as the letters which were sent before the fact, warning of Anthrax.
However an American who was recently in Yemen killed an army recruiter, with bloggers noting it mainly in trying to relate it to a late abortion performing doctor who was murdered,
http://tbogg.firedoglake.com/2009/06/01/shortest-ceasefire-ever
I think attempting to equate these two incidents is very short sighted.
Many been waiting for a bin attack, but perhaps al Qaeda now prefers a bunch of small ones.
It’s possible that for years al Qaeda hasn’t thought another US attack was in its immediate interest. In 2003, US troops were removed from Saudi Arabia bin Laden’s biggest complaint. At the same time, many soldiers were being shifted from Afghanistan, which bin Laden bounded with, to Shiite mostly Iraq which is less important to bin Laden.
Historically, everything serious has been played down, and hype presented instead.
Such as the Julius and Ethel Rosenberg trial for supposedly giving A-bomb secrets to Russia, while a Soviet Citizen George Kovel was actually working at the Manhattan bomb Project. Link, George Kovel at the New York Times,
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/12/us/12koval.html
Meanwhile a clear al Qaeda goal is to bankrupt the US with over-military spending like they did Russia in Afghanistan.
We are in trouble because trying to keep secrets from enemies means in the end keeping secrets from the American people instead. The danger is real and our responses mostly wrong. Obama improving things in a real way, but not nearly enough. I wish there was some way of talking directly to him.
Please goggle, "Terror attack may be imminent",

Crying wolf, has gone on since Joe McCarthy’s witch-hunts. Meanwhile real dangers have attempted to be dealt with, usually as quietly as possible. Many believing the government, or some power elite just imagines or creates dangers, in an otherwise safe world, is a dangerous attitude for many Americans to have.

Actually, al Qaeda appears to be freaking out about the speech our President is about to give in Cairo. Obama is proving to be a difficult foe for al Qaeda to fight as he refuses to present the same hate-able American image that the younger George Bush did. Remember, they and Rush Limbaugh referred to Obama as a “negro” and now they’re suggesting he’s secretly a Jew.
Ah, I love the smell of desperation in the morning!
You are mistaken that the killing of Dr. Tiller was not a terrorist attack. The point of a terrorist attack is not necessarily in the damage or death toll. It is what happens in the aftermath.
In the case of Dr. Tiller (and the others who preceded him) the point has been to shut down abortion clinics within the US. This campaign of terror (intimidation, bombings, arson, and assassinations) has largely succeeded because fear – which is after all, the main exponent of a terror attack – has closed many clinics, sent doctors out of practice, and now our vaunted medical schools do not even teach new doctors how to do this procedure.
As far as this guy who killed the soldier and wounded another one. Maybe he’s a terrorist, or maybe not. The proof will be in the aftermath – although he has been charged as one. I am waiting to see if they start closing recruiting stations, or start stationing armed guards outside them or having people who come in have to go through metal screening devices or all of the rest of the precautions that have to be gone through at a women’s clinic nowdays. Until that happens, I’m thinking your premise is exactly backwards.
I think you misread the poster who doesn’t actually comment on whether the killer of Dr. Tiller is a terrorist. His point is that the fact of the the other attack being an actual terrorist attack is being lost in the shuffle.
I don’t think I misread this at all. Richard thinks they aren’t equal – and in the first statement I infer from his comment that he thinks the recruiter shooting is a terrorist act and that the Dr. Tiller one is not.
And then I explained why I think he is wrong. I don’t think the recruiter shooting IS a terrorist attack. But the assassination of Dr. Tiller is.

If you are interested in the Rosenberg trial, the National Archives have the transcripts.
*************
” Washington, D.C., October 24, 2008 – Today, in response to a petition filed by the National Security Archive and several historical associations, the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) released the previously secret grand jury transcripts of eight witnesses related to Cold War espionage prosecutions. The nearly 300 pages of transcripts from the Brothman/Moskowitz grand jury reveal important new details about the testimony of Elizabeth Bentley, the so-called “Red Spy Queen,” and Harry Gold, who led authorities to David Greenglass and the Rosenbergs. In addition, NARA released the testimonies of Vivian Glassman, Edith Levitov, and Frank Wilentz from the Rosenberg grand jury.
“The disclosure of the Rosenberg and Brothman/Moskowitz transcripts bears witness to the idea that historically valuable grand jury records should, after a reasonable period of time, be made public,” explained David Vladeck, counsel for the Archive and the historical associations that supported the petition and a professor at the Georgetown University Law Center. “Keeping our nation’s history secret serves no legitimate purpose. These records were too important to be left to gather dust on the shelves of the National Archives. Now that they have been released, historians and the American people can come to grips with their own history.”
During the 1940s, Abraham Brothman gave secret industrial information to Elizabeth Bentley, who turned it over to the Soviet Union. Bentley eventually ended that relationship, but Harry Gold replaced her as a conduit to the Soviets. Both Bentley and Gold eventually became FBI informants and provided information that let authorities to Brothman and his business partner Miriam Moskowitz. Both Brothman and Moskowitz were convicted of obstruction of justice and served terms in prison. The Brothman/Moskowitz and Rosenberg cases were linked from the start, sharing some key witnesses and the same cast of investigators and prosecutors. The same judge also handled both cases. “

As usual when something is important, we know little of Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammed. He was in Yemen with a false Somalian passport. But I clicked past dates along with Abdulhakim and got nowhere.
If a Somalian passport was needed or helpful to get into Somali to join the fighting, like several American Muslims did. Abdulhakim could have shot up a recruiting site in Little Rock because his real desire fighting in Somalia was unavailable.
Maybe the FBI was trailing him to see who he would contact, and he found out so acted quickly instead, something similar to what was rumored to have actually happened with the Timothy McVeigh Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing.
Anyway somehow we think that much of the world is fixated on the US like some are with Israel.
Bin Laden wanted US troops off of Sacred Muslim soil and got his wish in 2003. Since then most of his killings were to try to make moderate Muslims militant.
Before 9/11, the National Alliance was slowly growing stronger and the Taliban weaker while the Taliban was generating bad press throughout the Muslim world. So bin Laden succeed to the point he got a more militant world.
Now suddenly bin Laden doesn’t want Muslims to die in the Swat Valley. If he thinks an attack on the US might save them I’m sure he’d try.
Actually, since he is smug about believing that eventually the US will be driven to bankruptcy, a real peace scare in the middle east might panic him to attack the US again. Perhaps there are sleeper cells in this country waiting for a US invasion of Pakistan that are getting confused of late and can’t ask for updates without possible revealing where they are.
A doctor in the Doctor’s Plot smashed his truck into a gate knowing he would likely only kill himself. But others might managed to take several westerners with them as they commit suicide in failure.
If bin Laden stops trying to plan perfect attacks perhaps al Qaeda will manage to kill a lot more Americans in a more casual way, that is, if they aren’t to busy killing moderate Muslims to get onto it.
Well plenty of questions, but questions rather than answers is probably where we all really are at the moment.

Terrorists use fear to limit or eliminate freedom. That’s the reason for assassinations of doctors who perform legal medical procedures like abortions. It is also the reason for a mob mentality to join forces to put an antiequality measure on a ballot and con people with lies and propaganda to vote for such a measure. While Dr. Tiller was physically murdered and there was an uproar about that, there was barely a peep when Obama supporters flooded to the polls to vote to stop same-sex marriage in California. Tyrannical majorities exist in America to stop freedom, and are emboldened to take even more radical steps when they have the blessings of the courts to attack en masse a group of Americans.
I want to particularly thank Butterfly for his/her comment. Earlier when I was reading an angry anti-Cheney post, it mentioned Churchill allowing Coventry to be attacked (see Wikipedia) which I Googled to learn more historical balance.
We have been getting extremely slanted information, with almost everyone commenting having an extremely narrow focus.
I included. For instance I overemphasized the likelihood of Cheney enticing al Qaeda to attack again,

planetspinz since you changed the subject. I for one am not happy about same sex marriage. However, I think the concept of domestic partnership, where a child has no official relationship with one of the adults raising him, is a far more likely destructive to family values or a child living in a family-relative-interconnected world.
Hillery Clinton showed great wisdom when she said it takes a village to raise a child
