Tigre Hill, a film-maker with past progressive credentials, has a new film on Mumia abu-Jamal coming out on December 9. The trailer has people claiming Mumia allegedly empowered himself by shooting a cop, along with comments by others whom I suspect weren’t referring to Mumia in that part of the discussion. It seems to be part of this hate campaign to associate the word terrorism to cover more and more uninvolved people. Headlines from elsewhere flashed on the screen “Machine-Gun Fire Hits 2 Police Men” and, “Grenades Rip 12 New Police Cars”, plus the words pig and oink, oink, several times.

Since local anti-capital punishment advocates get constantly bombarded with anti-Mumia material, it will affect people at a distance far more than in Philadelphia.

Prominent in the trailer was David Horowitz, who like Tigre Hill once was very progressive. Horowitz when not attacking Mumia is attacking the Muslim religion as being terrorist. Horowitz co-sponsored Islamo-Fascist Week , and starting in Philadelphia, is now touring America with Geert Wilder a Dutch politician who wants all Muslims kicked out of Europe.

Horowitz and others direct anger at bin Laden onto other groups, almost forgetting to be mad at al Qaeda. There is much overlap in Horowitz’s comments about Mumia and about Muslims,

There was a poem under Hitler, First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist; Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist; Then they came for the trade unionists . . . “Muslims whose only crime is taking their religion seriously get lumped in with terrorists, now it’s Mumia, and soon it will be undocumented immigrants. Incidentally the 9/11 hijackers got drunk, shaved their beards, one for sure even visited a whore house. Bin Laden’s goal isn’t practice but victory doing whatever it takes. A real terrorist will look like everyone else with the help of plastic surgeons and if their detonators are remote controlled like two incidents in Iraq, they can be an old lady with Downs syndrome and a child with a similar condition. Some even use bin Laden to condemn religious extremists of all stripes, or anyone who is more than a Sunday only Christian. More than a few people, in their own way, are trying to help bin Laden make this a more hate-filled and polarized world.

Whatever one thinks of capital punishment or Mumia’s relationship to the murder of Officer Faulkner, to blanketly infer that Mumia is a terrorists is bad news. Local police didn’t like it when skinheads came to their defense. Strongly telling the skinheads that Philadelphia police and authorities didn’t appreciate their offer to come to Philadelphia to urge Mumia’s execution. The police and public officials should also be leery of Muslim-haters claiming likewise.

Obama has made emotional peace with ordinary people around the world that used to hate Americans. Some people don’t like it, not only bin Laden and his network, but people at the Washington Times and Fox News, and are spreading back and forth hate anyway they can.

Horowitz and people at Fox News and former Vice-President Cheney, are hoping al Qaeda manages another domestic terror attack, which they hope will destroy the Obama administration and progressive causes in general. Earlier Horowitz tried to get professors fired for teaching alternative history when not attacking the women’s and gay movements. Horowitz is treated with prominence in Tigre Hill’s movie trailer.

Mumia in his writings usually dwells on what he considers the Evil Capitalist System. He hates systems, not people. Mumia has never had an unkind word personally directed at George Bush, or Officer Faulkner, or even the almost openly racist judge in his trial, Judge Sabo. That a stenographer reported Sabo saying “that n–— is going to fry” never received a response from Mumia. Mumia believes the pen is mightier than the sword, not in empowering himself by shooting a cop. Of course none of Mumia’s background prove his state of mind at 4 am that morning. But to claim that Mumia’s goal is being empowered by killing a police officer goes against everything Mumia ever wrote or said.

Michael Smerconish in the trailer questions whether they met by accident, indicating what will be in the movie. I too question whether everyone meeting at that corner was an accident. I was listening to KYW All News Radio, which at one point reported that Mumia was called to the scene on cab radio because his brother was in trouble, but I’m sure the movie will give different reasons. The trailer indicates that he will do a good job, showing a problem with the details, by both Mumia and his brother on what exactly happened the day of the murder. Billy said nothing but “I didn’t do it” until Arnold Beverly in 200l claimed to be a Mafia hit man responsible for the second shot. Mumia’s lawyer thought the confession was rubbish, but Mumia found another lawyer who disagreed. The court then found the confession incredible just like Mumia’s fired lawyer said it would. Mumia had a huge support in Cuba and Russia and other Communist countries until Mumia chased them and others away by clinging to the Beverly confession. Mumia, from then on, stopped talking about a massive conspiracy by Capitalism or Civilization itself to frame Mumia and stop John Africa’s insights from coming out. It is clear to me that Beverly’s confession significantly changed Mumia’s perception of what happened, that whoever first shot Officer Faulkner, whether it was Kenneth Freeman who was with Mumia’s brother Billy in Billy’s Volkswagen, Billy or Mumia himself, Billy and Mumia then became amazed to see the allegedly whistle-blowing officer shot again by a stranger. I think Beverly was a careful plan to get Mumia to chase supporters in Cuba and the Soviet Union out of his cause. Beverly, I believe, teased Mumia with details Mumia knew but hadn’t been reported.

However in Mumia’s 2001 affidavit he claims to have been shot and lost consciousness before Officer Faulkner was ever shot. If this was really the case there would be no such excitement by Mumia in someone claiming responsibility for the second shot point blank up close to the head, execution style.

Someday computers might look at old video and 911 tapes or other radio tapes and know exactly who’s lying or telling the truth, at which point people like Mumia might end up freed. But we won’t need a computer to prove that Mumia was not a terrorist.

By the way Michael Schiffmann the top Mumia supporter in Germany is claiming that Mumia’s brother Billy wasn’t stopped for going up a one way street. Earlier reporter Lynn Washington who visited the crime scene an hour after it happened noted the car facing the right way. However KWY all news and the newspapers reported otherwise which didn’t mean they were mistaken, but I fear that Mike Schernoff is being sucked into a trap especially since all the hate Mumia supposedly had in Tigre Hill’s trailer, obviously differs with the Mumia portrayed in all Mumia’s writings. Perhaps Schernoff should look into why the media was told otherwise, if the Volkswagen wasn’t stopped for a traffic violation. Why has no one ever paid real private investigators?

Anyway I hope that Mumia and his brother finally come out with any sticky information that is hard to explain before, not after Tigre Hill’s December 9th deadline, where Tigre Hill will come up with new exaggerated details, mixed with new lies.

I might mess this up by going further. But Tigre Hill indicated in the trailer that much of the film will be devoted to Maureen Faulkner’s tribulations throughout the years of waiting for Mumia to be executed. I have reason to believe that he will be convincing. This too, I would like to discuss before Tigre Hill’s December 9th deadline.

Move has gone though many changes since Vincent Leaphart was a piecework illiterate handyman who was stressed out. When not working, he wore spotlessly clean sharp clothing and listened to classical music, until one day he had an insight that in doing so he was a total slave to civilization’s delusions.

Later on Move picketed pet shops and the circus to let the prisoners go. George Fencil the head of Philadelphia’s civil affairs, I overheard them pointed out, told them where Daniel Ellsberg, who exposed the Pentagon Papers was speaking so they could picket him for claiming to be and expert or know-it-all. They picketed other public lecturers as well.

Right before the first eviction Move actually believed that all the worldwide limelight that surrounded that demand that they leave 33rd and Race Streets would awaken people around the world to realize that Civilization was an unnecessary evil, an unnecessary repression.

After the second Move eviction, and fire, Move became almost recluses with the exception of Pam Africa, and Romona. Pam claims to be Move’s spokesperson without much feedback from the rest of the group.

Move, at one point especially around 1981 claimed that God or Mother Nature was punishing someone whenever something bad happened to those they opposed. Ex-Catholics who hate the church and other former religious people who experienced the fear that they would be punished if they had thought of doubt, become the most vocal critics of religion. I’m sure that Maureen Faulkner felt even panic when Move claimed that God was punishing “Police Officer Charles Geist when is wife also a police officer shot him three months after he was acquitted for beating up Delbert Africa, a beating which was widely distributed news footage. Chuck Africa now in prison as part of the Move 9, has a much more mellower attitude then he once did. If he gets out of prison or even if he doesn’t, he might help to make sure that vestiges of this kind of thinking get modified, His more mellow views are highlighted in his Plea to the World,

People used to talk about kids being brainwashed by a mind numbing cult. It usually involved new recruits being connived the new religion could read their thoughts and being afraid to think doubtful thoughts in fear of being punished.

I see no evidence that Move continues to talk about Mother Nature ie God punishing people for disobeying her. But in any case Mumia has nothing to due with Move’s religious beliefs. However, back in 1982, I wrote an article in the Philadelphia Tribune likewise separating Mumia from Move the group he got in trouble with defending. They picketed the Tribune and when I tried to cross their picket line to buy a bunch of copies of my article, I was pushed to the ground. The next Philadelphia Tribune front page headline screamed erroneously that I was beat up. All copies disappeared from the Philadelphia Tribune and from the microfiche at the Philadelphia main library. Also missing is a NAACP protest at the roundhouse over Billy’s, I think, $100,000 bail for going up a one-way street. It would be hard for Tigre Hill to get this story straight, since the historical record has been hacked into.

Mumia was particularly upset that the Philadelphia Tribune didn’t publish his version of events but published mine an amateur instead. Had they published what Mumia wrote, perhaps Mumia haters wouldn’t be able to claim that Mumia never spoke up.

Without Beverly’s testimony as distorted at they may be, had Mumia or his brother claimed a perfect stranger finished Faulkner off they would have been assumed to be hallucinating or not admitting to themselves what one of them or Kenneth Freeman did. If Officer Faulkner wasn’t shot a second time and in court tried to explain harassing Billy just because he had a famous relative, with the police rallying around him, then later testified against corruption in the upcoming corruption trials, many officers would have been convicted rather than leaving under early retirement,

There is a song, “Why oh why did she swallow that fly” about constantly making a situation worse. Something happened wrong around the time Mumia was arrested and keeping it secret leads to more and more that needs to be covered up.

It is possible that December 6 would be a pertinent moment for Tigre Hill to stir up enough anger at Mumia to reinstate Mumia’s death sentence, and help those that want the tensions, that this country had before Obama, to return. Every reasonable person, corrections officer, political leader and persons on the street should oppose this happening. Conceivably some tidbits in this movie might not be in the direction of polarization, if so condemning it ahead of time won’t get in the way.

This isn’t the time for anti-capital punishment and anti prison industrial complex people to cry out by themselves but for everyone who wouldn’t appreciate the hate filled polarized world that both Horowitz and bin Laden, and the people at the Washington Times, envision.
