Lately most politics is pouring perfume on what you like and bad tastes and odors on what you don’t. In NY a pro-choice Republican had to face phony ads that looked like she put out, shrilling overstating her positions. Instead of noting that it made the Democrat win, I wish some would call for the dirty trickster to be punished or at least fined.
It’s not easy to know what Rush Limbaugh stands for because, instead of stating it, he spends his time putting bad odors and tastes and generally smearing what he doesn’t like.
A few people who actually still state what they believe like Michael Moore, Mike Huckabee, and Sarah Palin, and they leave themselves venerable to being doused with bad odors and tastes. People lose their jobs for speaking their views like Marc Lamont Hill, who was canned from Fox News, and Van Jones by Obama in part because of their support of controversial on and off again death row inmate Mumia abu-Jamal. I am not even cheering Lou Dobb’s being fired by CNN as much as I abhor his views.
In foreign policy in Afghanistan sub-tribalism is important. The US’s most reliable allie against the Taliban is what is left of the Afghan Communist party, while the US continues to boycott Cuba to the determent of the US economy. So domestic politics is interfering with the US’s ability to conduct a rational foreign policy.
Cuban-Americans of all stripes condemned and signed a petition condemning the death threats against Cuban-American performers who were thinking of attending a peace concert in Cuba. It would be wonderful if somehow Sarah Palin would condemn the dirty tricks in NY, and the bury Obama next to Kennedy posters, and Michael More defend Sarah Palan’s right to express her views. Sarah Palin, Vance Jones and Marc Lamont Hill are in trouble for presenting a firm partisan position. Partisanship is part of the solution not the problem if partisans can bring themselves to defend those who disagree, their right to state their opinion as well.

Hey the people of this Country dove into this septic tank, and are swimming around like it’s a vacation in a five star hotel pool.
The let politics, the perties ,and the people in them run the show. They let the loud mouths get away with what they spew, without a challange, saying it’s their right to say it, but not calling them on their facts.
It’s easy to blame Presidents, but the politics of all of it is the Countries Peoples fault.
As far as Sarah Palin not “polishing that turd” or “pouring perfume on herself,” I read her statement that the RNC forced her to purchase really expensive outfits. Sorry, but my BS detector immediately blared a siren and flashed red. I’m sorry, but it was blatantly obvious at the time that she was gittin’ it for all that it was worth while the gittin’ was good. (Let’s be clear, I’m not speaking as an outraged taxpayer because she wasn’t spending the people’s money, she was spending Republican Party campaign funds, so I note that as an amused Democrat). Her autobiography is being reviewed and I’m sorry, but it’s full of lies.
As to Lou Dobbs, his freedom of speech was never at issue. The question was “Why is CNN stomping all over their own credibility with muddy, hobnailed boots?” CNN did a good piece on Latinos, but having Lou Dobbs on, ranting and raving about Latinos, meant they utterly lacked the slightest shred of credibility.
Please keep Palin in the freak category where she belongs and not in the company with serious persons who really do have positions on significant issues.
We will always remember that it took over 8 years of Bush/Cheney/Republican national ruination, and now the same charlatans are critical of Obama’s “failure” to correct all this in one year. Who’s fooling whom? Is our memory challenged? Progress is already being made, but it is totally unreasonable to expect what took Bush 8 years to destroy to be corrected in ONE year. Only Cheney has the audacity to proclaim the supposed ” failures ” of others for the destruction he wrought. Had he ” dithered” more and acted less, the US would not be in the straits of today.
