Four Lame Duck lawmakers, who want substantial cuts in military spending, will be out of office January 20. Normally they would already be out of office as Congress has its Christmas break. Instead they have more active maneuvering room, then the other representatives who have to be careful who they offend,
Bernie Sanders clearly shows his wait and see attitude on his Senate website,
He is especially strong on the need for Defense Cuts,
http://www.boston.com/politicalintelligence/2012/12/20/barney-frank-argues-for-defense-cuts-one-his-last-house-speeches/eEcHkVtUJTJcx1D0qTDz8I/story.html
Throughout the years Barney Frank worked hard to cut the Defense Budget, So has Dennis Kucinich, Note how strong Ron Paul is on military cuts,

Rep. Raúl Grijalva, not a lame duck, is fighting particularly hard to cut the military, not social security

In the following link are the names of 37 other lawmakers who want defense cuts, and which jurisdictions they represent. I urge their constituents to thank them and encourage them to do more,

According to Veterans for Peace, the small cuts Obama offered in Defense Spending is a lie because it is based on projection spending, not last years spending,

Also it is important to read, Defense Lobby Wins,
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/defense-budget
I urge Rep.Dennis Kucinich to meet with Ron Paul and work out a joint Libertarian-Progressive-Democrat compromise budget. Then in the Senate Bernie Sanders meet with Tom Corburn to do the same.
If the budget isn’t in place January 20, Jeff Flake could take Tom Corburn’s place in the military cut cliff alternative budget negotiations. In the House Jeff Flake was the most vocal against the embargo of Cuba. Since seniors are already stretching their Social Security check in more dangerous Mexico. Massive retiring to Cuba would greatly strengthen Medicare.
If Ron Paul and Kucinich don’t have an alternative budget deal by January 20, Justin Amash could take Ron Paul’s place, and Jon Kyl take Senator Sander’s place. Barbara Lee take Kucinich’s place.
A cancer is an uncontrolled growth. The fact that the military budget didn’t go down when the Cold War ended like it did when the Vietnam War ended may mean it is cancer. If so, the so called cliff is actually chemotherapy attacking the cancerous growth. Of course chemotherapy has a lot of unpleasant side effects.
If the Lame Ducks can cut out the cancerous growth there might be something called the United States over 200 years from now just like their still is a England, over 200 years from when the US tore away from the British Empire.
Note the lawmakers who realize the need for military cuts. Lets look at them as doctors who can treat a cancerous growth and urge them to do more.

There is no fiscal cliff, there will be only starvation from faux political posturing for those dependent on govt checks, like oh, millions upon millions of those on unemployment.
And Congress ain’t likely to toss the under the bus, in any means.
That would be political suicide, even if the politics are gamed and owned and operate by corporate fascists.
So, really, this is a non diary and non story.
Those pols you mention are already proven to have caved on proggy issues, all it took in Kuch’s case was a plane ride on AF-1.
They are owned and operated by corporate fascists. They won’t really do anything of the sorts to cut military profiteering.
Cuz their LIVES depend on it.
This is a ‘hope a dope’ diary . . . but I fully disagree with it for my reasons stated.
I will not be lulled or seduced into the fantasy that anything we do or our erected offals will do, can change the status quo.
Game is bought and sold, change to benefit we the people will be costly if it ever comes.
And in the meantime, we have the beauty of knowing, it’s all unsustainable, as empires fail when they ignore the needs of the masses.
Harumph.
Would that be the Ron Paul who wants to cut food stamps from $1.50/meal/day to $0.50/meal/day.
Or maybe that’s the hard currency Ron Paul who wants to make the U.S. a slave state to gold producers like S. Africa and Russia.
But hey, lesser of evils, dontcha know.
Would that be the Kucinich who deflated like a punctured balloon over Obamacare.
Excuse me…but saying that Dennis “Kucinich and Ron Paul can save the US economy” is absurd, even with the help of Bernie Sanders, Raul Grijalva, Barney Frank and the “37 other lawmakers” who want defense cuts. If we add them all up, they represent less than 8% of (total) Congress. I’m with you on deep military cuts but you just aren’t going to do it with that kind of arithmetic. This is silly and not well thought out. You’re leaving out the parts where bills have to be brought up, debated and VOTED on, not to mention signed by a President who has shown no inclination to cut defense. Your gang of 40 are Representatives and Senators, not autocrats and despots.
Years ago Ron Paul pushed hard for a government loan program not unemployment insurance which I didn’t manage to Google. He is very insistent on cutting the military and the summery trial by drones of especially American citizens. He also said it is better to spend money on food stamps then war.
Several bloggers from various directions are saying like the cliff happen. I think it is a better attitude to push for a good deal then to just say let the cliff happen is the best choice available. If those who want military cuts cut meet and plan together at least a slight decrease in the military budget will happen.
Anyway as a retiree I would rather have a small peace of hardy cheesecake than an overflowing glob of whipped cream pie that will blow away when the economy collapses.
Anyway this may be the last chance to stop a self-perpetuating growth
By the way a government sponsored job is actually a very expensive welfare check unless it is to actually do something for the future like the Green Job program is theory was doing.
I dream that someone will read this that can actually talk to Paul and Kucinich about it
This was decided on 11-22-63 once and for all. We serve the military and their wish list of the next to “deserve’ to die at our hands.
Kennedy wanted to blow up the CIA to a million pieces along with nipping the MIC Vietnam in the bud. What was his and our answer ?
I’m sorry, I’m still unclear. What are you basing that on? Again, they don’t have the votes. I’m on your side here. I think that cutting “defense” to levels merely equal to what the entire rest of the world spends would be a great place to start. I just don’t see how even a “slight decrease in the military budget” happens just by virtue of Ron Paul meeting with the other 41 other named and unnamed lawmakers in your post. They could meet from now until the end of time, they could occupy the Congressional cloakroom and the military budget is much more likely to continue rising unchecked. That’s not going to stop or even slow because some people meet together. Until the votes are there and until the President agrees, there will be no cuts. Sorry, that’s just the way it is. Ron Paul’s best fishing buddy could read this post and wholeheartedly endorse it to him the next time they meet but it won’t make one iota of difference.
We talk about a conspiracy to keep good information off of the news. However news is defined as what is different and what is interesting. Its not news that millions go to church every Sunday unless that Sunday happening to be Christmas Sunday. So services suddenly crowded is news.
It is not news that the US is bankrupting itself with guns and bases all over the world. However Ron Paul and Kucinich meeting to try to suggest a compromise budget between them would be news and remind more Americans that the self contracted military increases, is killing us. To many Americans it is not true just because they never hear it discussed any more.
I wrote, The Choice is Between “Guns and Guns”, not “Guns and Butter” which no one commented on and didn’t make it to a top article. I updated it and made it shrill suddenly “Ron Paul and Kucinich can save the US . . .” is a top story rather than a redundancy.
Of course Romney managed to keep making news by such things as speaking at an all black charter school where some of his comments were booed, made a lot of news, and lost anyway.
Nevertheless we have no chance of stopping the uncontrollable growth the military cancer unless we make that cancer news.
Recommended.

That wouldn’t be “news” to anybody but policy wonks and to many of them it would be a source of amusement. I admire your idealism but your theory is not sound. Ron Paul meeting with Dennis Kucinich over the defense budget won’t accomplish anything. They are both very well known as against spending hugely on defense. At best it would be a paragraph or two at Huffington Post. Don;t forget who runs the news media.

I do not know what could be done, but your thoughts and suggestions could definitely catch on….Thanks.
Congress in Special Session New Years Day:
Barney Sanders voted yes on the New Years Day deal, Barney Frank is discussing Hagel non cliff, Ron Paul’s comments are on the long term,
Dennis Kucinich’s comments January 1,

I think you are bringing up the points that are essential in making this a true discussion. Today or tomorrow, Eight percent of the Congress critters are not going to cut it.
And then there is the sticky wicket that Kucinich folded on the very important matter of the Health Care “Reform” legislation – all on account of ONE airplane ride on Air Force One. I have no idea what happened to him up there – did Michelle hold him by his heels from an altitude of 26,000 feet?
And at this point, Ron Paul has totally discredited himself with even his long time loyalists. He apparently is more about seeing his son Rand can run for the Presidency than helping Americans fix anything.
