We are getting a lot of nonsense. Cops don’t want bulletproof vest piercing bullets or want organized gangs or criminals or private militia groups to have automatic weapons. You and me get killed by a spooked-out mugger when a car backfires, or a mugger gets surprised by someone coming, or a road-raged driver.
People who can afford an automatic aren’t aiming at us, and thanks to insurance companies saying, ‘no guns for employees’, we ordinary folks don’t get hit by automatic-gun shootouts between bank robbers and tellers or on between the crew and pirates on the high seas. By the way it is the amateurs that tend to end up hitting others than what they aim at, those who don’t buy expensive automatics. But the $10 million that Dianne Feinstein, and now Obama, want ordinary folk to pay for cops in schools and very tight background checks isn’t going to come from the corporations or a tax on the rich, but from programs that make life more bearable for ordinary folk. Anything that will make students more and more desperate in the poor schools for them to have to chose between a gun, with a legal job in the armed forces, or illegally on the street will make those who do chose to earn money illegally, think that, one way or another, life with a gun is in their future, and where a legal job with a gun is constantly dangled in their face, if they choose an illegal job are more likely to choose one with a gun.
When it comes to ordinary folk killed Adam Lanza was rich like a gang kingpin with easy access to an expensive automatic weapon not usually the kind of person to be mad at ordinary persons. However he was mad at the kids his mother volunteered with at the local elementary school. If his mother liked to take care of sick animals , we would have had a different follow-up after he murdered his mother. But Adam spent almost his entire life either mopping in the corner or glued to a computer screen without exercise would have killed as many people with a small easy to handle gun. The little girl who played dead would have had less blood to hide under. James Holmes was also super-smart. Holmes was determined to mass kill ordinary folk in that movie theater and fortunately no one opened his slightly ajar apartment door with the ear-piercing music inside. If it became far easier to spray a chemical or something else to mass kill, than getting what people wanted to be a banned automatic, he wouldn’t have gone to his car to get a second automatic, after his overloaded big gun jammed, which was the one scenario that led to only 13 deaths.
Attention NRA! Insurance companies don’t allow armed school personnel in private schools. You and I will never be shot with a Teflon bullet, and thanks to insurance companies won’t be hit by the crossfire between organized gangs and workers in chain stores. If insurance companies paid for people harmed in public school incidents, and couldn’t put, ‘not good in times of war or acts of God’ into their insurance packages there might be a whole lot less mayhem and war in the world.
As far as seizing illegal ordinary guns, making illegal guns as hard to get or valuable as Oxycontin will lead to similar attempts to steal them, and will mean more gun deaths for you and me.
Interestingly somehow there is no war against meth or speed, like with some other drugs. Yes there is punishment, but the emphasis is an intense education campaign. If there was a meth type, or anti-smoking type education campaign against guns there would be much argument over its parameters, but there would be less guns on the street then by throwing people in jail. However a lot of crime is trying to steal a gun. Ads letting people know that their gun make their home attractive to thieves would not be controversial. Without being mandatory, one’s home would be safer if the gun was all marked up with a tracking device making it less attractive to steal. Homes have stickers: ‘Alarm attached to a alarm security monitoring company’s system’. The government can make it cheap and easy to have a sticker: ‘Guns are in a fingerprint locked alarmed safe’. Fingerprint locking boxes for a small pistol could be a side pouch. People could be reminded in ads that their gun in an arguement may be a temptation to be seized by those they argue with, but not in a fingerlocked pouch. And the police can use fingerprint locks on their holsters when intervening in a domestic dispute or when part of crowd control. In a traffic stop if there are two officers the one first going up to the car might be known, by being frequently stated, to have his holster fingerprint lock on to prevent any ideas of seizing it. Or the fear if I don’t shoot him he will shoot me first. Bobbies in London don’t want guns knowing that if the police have them criminals would want them also to try to protect themselves from being shot by the police,
In this country, it would make the one cop approaching with others in the background, less a target if he wasn’t a direct threat.
Interestingly, someone who gets a prescription drug that isn’t prescribed by a doctor, can get advice from a pharmacist on how it will mix with the prescriptions they already have, without the pharmacist keeping a record of use of prescribed medicine, thus saving lives. There were discussions locally of illegal immigrants being able to report serious crime without being deported. Someone with an illegal gun could be allowed to report something more serious, and if it’s probation violation they are guilty of get a special reprieve where they must report or come in twice a day. Anyway illegal guns are twice as serious because the owner can’t get involved in publicly stopping something more serious, and is more susceptible to being a victim because of it. Pennsylvania now (after many years of refusing) has turned over its public health records to the Federal government. Those who suddenly fear having sold a gun to an acquaintance should at least be encouraged to buy it back and publicly turn it in, or make a publicly recorded sale to someone allowed to have it.
Many worry that the $10 million Dianne Feinstein wants to spend on police in the schools will come
from programs that make poverty less of a desperation and thus end up encouraging gun crime. Others like the the Advancement Project, the ACLU and the NAACP especially the New York branch are very
upset that Obama’s proposals for more police in schools would make the School-to-Prison pipeline
worse.
The powers that be, ie the politicos in the top 10% of the top 1 % were furious that Obama allowed Occupy Wall Street, ie solidarity of the 99%, to take hold, and taught Obama a lesson in the 2010 Republican Congressional Landslide. So he is now playing the hot button issue game. It’s almost like Clinton won a third term in 2012 and is now President again.
But Conservatives were so overwhelmed in 2012, first in Romney’s nomination then with Obama’s landslide that they don’t bother to get involved much anymore, especially since whites are a shrinking minority, and it seems gay rights is irreversible. So now comes the gun-control issue to keep the 99% fighting with each other.
Eleven libertarian-leaning Republicans, and peace-leaning Democrats, signed a joint letter demanding defense cuts. Making domestic guns a central issue, interferes with libertarian-left cooperation on peace, drones and civil liberties issues. Just what the powers that be want.

The chances of you and I needing an assault rifle to protect us is astronomical, statistically. This is only a position taken by trigger happy unevolved paranoid children who have bought into the NRA spin that we are a nation at war with each other, like in Iran. This is certainly not the case. And it is also not correct to think that only the bad guys will be able to get them. If they can get them, we can too.
One thing all the recent rash murders had in common was their world was almost totally engrossed in computer games. Back in 2002 there was a push to ban violent computer games after the Capitol Hill Sniper attacks.

Instead of banning those under psychiatric care from owning legal guns, there could be and eye coordination test to ban gun licenses from anyone spending many hours a day on a screen. Of course that would mean the spokespeople for any organization would be banned from owning a gun and a frustrated James Holmes would have killed far more than 13 in that movie theater with poison gas.
So why are you in favor of people being able to have armor piercing bullets? These things are useful for one thing and one thing only – killing cops.

The money for security in schools is for schools that want to do this – not for forcing every school to have an armed guard.
And BTW, a more serious link to mass shootings is the link between anti-psychotic drugs like Prozac given to teens. I’d be more interested in looking at that than I would at video games. Japan has way more violent video game content than we do and way less gun violence.
Outlawing something doesn’t make it go away. Some real success against crack and meth, and tobacco smoking but my guess that banning children from smoking makes it a privilege for adults and more likely for people to die of cancer in the end.
People in dangerous areas are more likely to get a gun. One fact unsecured liquid assets is dangerous, money diamonds,pot or guns. PEOPLE WHO BADLY NEED OXICODINE ARE RISKING THEIR LIVES.
