Sometimes a person lives an entire lifetime promoting ideas that are disproved before his/her eyes. This happened with Irving Kristol, and I hope with complete goodwill that the experience was uplifting and character building.
The economic disaster that has resulted from release of ‘free markets’ on the financial world is proof positive that the belief that markets are self-regulating is horribly wrong. The world will be crawling out of this crisis for some time to come.
If ever my friends want the best for me, if I am in error, tell me. Make me face the errors. Remind me that there is no shame in having the courage to face up to being wrong.
Thank you.

I absolutely agree with this. I sang opera for many years, and had a pact with my buddies: when I can’t do it well, tell me and let me quit gracefully. It worked. I love singing to much to do it badly.
I feel the same way about my ideas.
Another good plan. So glad you did that, too.
Opera singer masaccio? Very cool.
Hope this doesn’t sound too ‘pollyann-ish’ but ruth, you’re never ‘wrong’; you might be mistaken but not wrong. don’t play that song into your head about ‘being wrong’.
Thanks, you’re sweet, but I think we can all be wrongheaded sometimes. Hopefully, we won’t do the harm that a Kristol or a Rove has.
Unfortunately, Ruth, so many people do not want to know they are wrong and or to correct their errors. Bravo for you.
