The foreign media and news our late friend, Southern Dragon, kept bringing to our attention has yet another scary story about water loss. In the Middle East, whole rivers are being lost.
Pictures taken by NASA satellites reveal an alarming loss of freshwater in the Middle East.
Two important rivers are disappearing, and if they vanish millions of people will be affected.
The UN has begun promotion of solar power on the continent of Africa for a multitude of reasons that benefits occur.
Nigeria could save US$1.4 billion a year and avoid using 17.3 million barrels of crude oil if it used modern off-grid lighting solutions.
That’s one finding of a new UN study into lighting in Africa, a continent that relies heavily on kerosene, candles and batteries to light homes.
In West Africa alone, 76% of the population lacks access to electricity and spends up to 20% of the household budget on kerosene for lighting.
Not only do these practices release huge levels of carbon emissions, they also contribute to lung complaints and are huge polluters across the continent.
China’s cyberattacks gained a new level of recognition requiring U.S. response.
THE US is planning tough new laws to combat China’s rampant internet hacking, despite angry denials from Beijing that its powerful army is responsible for hundreds of covert cyber attacks.
An explosive report from Mandiant, a US internet security firm, revealed on Tuesday that China’s People’s Liberation Army operates a secret division employing thousands of people in Shanghai to break into government and corporate computer networks around the world.
It was claimed that China had hacked at least 140 organisations in the past six years, through an intricate network, to steal official secrets and data of potential rival firms and governments.
Financing micro-enterprise gains more attention and support as the need for new economic success for workers grows in urgency and importance.
A Ghanaian start-up planning to popularise crowdfunding in Africa has been selected as one of the winners of this year’s Apps4Africa competition.
SliceBiz plans to develop a service that will deliver 30-second pitches recorded by entrepreneurs to potential backers over the phone.

Good morning, Ruth! Nice roundup as usual!
Thanks, it’s always possible to find there are really good workable projects/plans out there, and push them.
The middle East is going to have to build more desalinization plants. It’s the most expensive way to get water I know, but it’s either that or war. Israel keeps the Golan for the water, no matter what they tell you.
I wonder it such a plant could be solar powered there? I don’t know why not, and the seacoasts are always sunny.
China hacking interest me, but not for the reason you’d suspect. This is NOT news, the pentagon and the cia were making public reports it in 1999. My question is why is it being publicized now? I suspect the idea is to put pressure on China to put pressure on North Korea. This noise started right about the time of NK latest Atomic test.
More robocalls. I hope this goes down in flames.
Boxturtle (There must be business startup ideas that are not based on annoyance)
Phoenix Woman wrote about Mandiant a couple of days ago. Anonymous is involved, apparently, in the uncovering of their activities.
Good morning Ruth. Thanks for the post and host. The video in the first link won’t play for me at the AJE site. I’ll check back on it later. The last story about crowdfunding in Africa is pretty brilliant. I wonder how successful those young entrepreneurs will be on a continent with so little disposable income. Crowdfunding projects worked well here in the US because a large number of American households have many to throw at unnecessary things. I’m not sure that will be the case in Africa.
Good question. I didn’t know that.
Actually, these robocalls are from teeny tiny business ventures to those with funds to microfinance, so it’s not sales so much as alerts to what they’re looking for, aimed at interested investors. I should have included more of the article, no doubt.
THAT is the $64,000 question. It is either politically, economically, or diplomatically expedient to make China look bad right now. I’m interested to know why.
I think your idea about NK isn’t unrealistic. You may be right.
It looks like the exposure of China’s hacking activities was slipped in by our friends Anonymous, at least for the latest edition. We’ve heard about the potential, but not actual places and numbers, before.
Heard a report yesterday on NPR about people from Ethiopia, I think it was, raised or educated in other countries returning and starting businesses. Much success apparently. Changing economic realities there. Only complaint was the type of businesses. No manufacturing, which would create the most jobs and have the deepest impact on the economy.
Good morning all and thanks for the postnhost Ruth.
Thanks. I am sure one day soon all investors will catch on to the basic facts of a consumer economy, that all of us gain from living wages for work. Maybe soon, over all the efforts of the mogul horde to drown out that knowledge.
As long as the interested investors sign up for it as opposed to being picked from a phone list, I’ve no problem with it.
Boxturtle (There’s a pit in hell for the person who invented robocalls)
I sure hope you’re right. Right now, the investors seem to like the feudal system.
Boxturtle (Every $1M you cut from an executive employs 20 people at a good wage)
Robocalls have the effect of taking some of us off landlines, though, so not all bad.
Yup, I took out my land line at least 3 years ago, maybe longer. I have DSL for Internet, and for a long time you had to have a land line phone to get DSL. I’m not sure that was a technical requirement, perhaps only a marketing one. Then a settlement with one of the southern phone companies required them to provide DSL separately.
I get an occasional robo-call from some credit card outfit in the south. I hang up as soon as I hear the beginning.
Filed under better late than never.
Twenty workers buy twenty times more toothpaste. Ergo, prosperity. See, simple math.
I have long been mystified by those that refuse to acknowledge an economy based 72% on consumer spending is doomed if you continue to drive down wages for 99% of the population.
Why, oh why, won’t someone with a national voice stand up and say those words. Or, how about, more of the same is NOT a successful problem solving strategy. As is in;
NO, there will be no more tax cuts for rich people.
Or; NO, we will NOT ignore the gun show loophole any more.
Or; so
fuckingwhat if the NRA has 4 million members, that just means that 307 million of us are NOT members and just might have a little more say.I am SO going to use that line from now on.
Boxturtle (Needed an excuse to visit my GOP neighbor this evening, anyway)
Simple truths have a bad rep, maybe because they’re so obvious. The world’s leading authorities like to use more words, seems like. But on the NRA; even its members disagree with its officials spouting violent fantasies.
That was a simple truth, wasn’t it?
Boxturtle (obviously, oldnslow is fat. Welcome to the Al Gore club!)
I showed uncharacteristic reticence on Facebook when I read someone’s comment about (paraphrasing) Obama’s advocacy for gun regulations while he and his family have 24X365 protection. I just said I refuse to engage with someone who disgorges such nonsense.
More than one, if you count the part about what we actually see discussed. Or is my math overly complicated?
I keep trying to tell the wife that. She insists that 6’1″/185 is not fat. (no, I don’t win
manyarguments with her)I followed it. But if I put on my GOP hat it makes no sense at all. Those 99% aren’t job creators. And they’re going to take my guns.
Boxturtle (And they probably go to the wrong church)
Good response, but some one who’s swallowed the nonsense probably is operating on ganglia rather than brain cells.
Just a thought…Im surprised we’ve had no comment about Demi, not
that I know what to say. But we are certainly missing a very valuable voice. Im wondering if it’s that ta-da, or dustup, that has given me such a headache. Never know. Maybe there’s a call for some comment about the “falleness” of human nature; I swear there must be a way to get along and no, not saying that I know the secret. Just thought there should be a note….B
Please get her started on 5’5″/185. Okay, I’m being silly.
Imagine, just for a second;
You go to the Home Owners Association meeting because the latch on the gate at the pool is broken and kids keep drowning. Some
assholeperson stands up and says, “the only possible solution is to put a gate with a broken latch at the other end of the pool.”Would that person be dismissed from the discussion?
This is actually a guy I hired, long ago. He isn’t a FB friend, but he made the comment on a friend’s thread. I do get into arguments with people sometimes (keep it civil and factual), but this just wasn’t worth the effort.
The job creators Are the consumers, unless you totally ignore facts. All the lowered taxes in the previous administration, that were advertised as creating jobs, lowered the number of jobs. Id est demonstraturm (is that wordy enough?)
I agree. 6’1″ and 185 lbs. is not fat!
Guess I missed that, last I knew demi was commenting with her usual delightful tone.
Some days she sleeps late. It is only 6:30 on her coast. Did I miss something?
So they can get out, right? Sounds about right.
Interesting….yes, her departure stated on yesterday’s
thread; glad I mentioned it.
Frankly, I have no comment. Her attack on KrisA was unconscionable and uncalled for. I hope she’s taking some time to think things over.
No. He’d be the next vice president.
Boxturtle (The tests are easy this morning)
My GOP hat enables me to do that. AND I can make up facts on my own!
Boxturtle (It looks like a bishops mitre covered in tinfoil. Shiny side out)
Late in the day Kris and demi exchanged some heated words on the Over East thread.
Although there were some hurt feelings I hope everything is alright between them since I care for both of them very deeply.
We all have our moments and I hope we are all tolerant enough to forgive and forget.
Oldnslow, you better gain a few more pounds if you want to play with the walk behinds.
and msmolly @37,
I was unaware of this. Thank you both.
The best facts are the ones built to fit the occasion.
Those things did look like they would use up my narrow ass. Although I seem to recall you mentioning that you turned ‘em loose and met ‘em on the other side of the field. Thanks for the laugh.
I love eggs over easy, that photo gets me every time, Ruth. Yum.
We got some tiny amount of Snow! last night. Incredible. We need the moisture, always.
Thanks for the post n host.
In all fairness, demi had some heated words. Not just with me, but very pointedly at other firedogs as well.
My responses were measured and respectful.
(Or am I deluding myself? It’s happened before.)
Read from here.
You are not deluding yourself. It has been a pattern for a long time. Your responses were excellent, calm and measured. You have nothing to regret at all.
Are you getting that huge credit card mess straightened out? What a nightmare! And having to rebook flights and hope they’re still available has to be a challenge too! Yuk. Earning your pennies, fer sure!
Thanks, we all swap a few words that aren’t what we’d have chosen if we’d had world enough and time, I think, and as you say, they’re the sort that get over the nonsense.
I was looking up clips to show Ruth how the rotary plow worked and found only one out of about eight people knew what they were doing. You can plow with one hand, yet here were people fighting a 400 pound machine. That was funny.
Thanks, and I love the eggs. Also having the same image, so no one gets a shock. I’ll save that for a special occasion.
SD said put a fuckin sock in it. Yesterdays gone with the wind.
The mess seems to be down to 14 hotels that need new authorizations, 9 flights that need to be rebooked, and 2 people that were left stuck for a couple of days because I couldn’t purchase outbound tickets. Once I get a new card, either today or tomorrow, I’ll be able to tidy everything up.
The real issue will be getting caught back up with my day to day stuff. I’ve got dozens of requests piling up in my inbox. Can’t do anything with them until I’ve got a card in my hands again.
People are funny in that they will NOT let the tool do the work. Even with a file or a hand saw insist on trying to hurry or force it.
Can I go home to Tara now? (I’ll think about that tomorrow.)
True….and I did not bring it up to re-litigate the episode. We’ve talked about sharp words before. And I do feel sad/concerned
for our little group. I know Peg has been feeling some stress/attack if that’s the right word. There is no monitor here, and different folks has different tolerance with how direct/sharp, etc. one can be….sort of a range, I guess, + some folks are really more sensitive than others and that sort of thing is hard to know in this environment. But yesterday, at least 2 of our folks had hurt feelings; for that I am sorry. Also sorry for how the group itself feels and responds.
OT: It is a really dark day in my neighborhood, and I have a flat tire. It occurred during yesterday, so something has to be done today….while it looks like rain. Cheers, y’all
Yikes, got a mess like that but not so large when my bank changed my charge card because there had been some suspicious activity on it. Didn’t realize that meant the automatic payments that came out of the account would also get bounced. Messy.
Yeah, I do not think Scarlet said what SD said;) Wish we could
ask him.
Thanks, hope it gets straight quickly, and yes, we have a great group that does well to keep out of fusses.
Geez. I bet your phone is ringing anytime you’re not on it.
If I have a problem, I can inconvenience hundreds of people. But they don’t have my phone number.
Boxturtle (There should be a system that could prevent the credit card theft)
Well, I do hope you at least have a Bluetooth earpiece and a smart phone. My son works from home and is on the phone a lot, and he uses his Bluetooth earpiece constantly. You’re gonna be living on that phone for a couple more days, probably.
Good morning all.
I haven’t read the comments yet, so maybe this is already addressed. The first link about Middle East water goes to a summary and the article’s comments. I can’t find the photos or the article.
Ooops. will go look to find out why.
Ugh. I imagine it was even rougher for you. For me, I’ve got the full faith and credit of my company to draw on. I can just call these hotels and vendors and say ‘hey, we’ve got an issue. Hold up for a couple days’. For an individual I imagine it’s much tougher.
Here; http://www.aljazeera.com/video/middleeast/2013/02/201321716349824515.html
This has happened twice before. The nature of what we use the card for forces us to put the number out there frequently. We actually have to fax photocopies of the card to hotels in order for them to accept a 3rd party payment. I do this 30-40 times a month. So throughout the course of the year, anywhere from 360-480 hotel clerks handle our credit card. Every once in a while we run into one who thinks it’d be a good idea to go on a shopping spree.
Seriously annoying, but there’s no better way until the hotels get their shit together and create an online billing option.
I’ve never gotten into the bluetooth headset. I don’t like them. Maybe it’s because I have weird-shaped ears. And I wear glasses. All of the models I’ve owned have a small piece that goes over the top of the ear, and it always interferes with my glasses.
I do work primarily from my smartphone. It’s my direct line that gets sent out to the world.
I found the clip that illustrated the five ways one needs to set the available adjustments on that machine to make it run a straight line with only one hand. Garden planning is going on as we are forecast to get more frozen moisture tomorrow morning thru Saturday morning.
Morning Spuds, Ruth, pups (he wrote with a 13 lb cat draped over his comfortably toasty tootsies).
Lucky you, lucky cat….Warm….
Fortunately I was not in Algeria with a flight home the airline decided I’d have to pay for up front with a credit card the bank had ditched. Adventures of that sort don’t appeal to me.
how apt!
My Visa was hijacked a year or so ago, the card .company caught it and notified me and replaced the card immediately. I had the replacement via FedEx overnight the next morning, and all outstanding transactions were rerouted seamlessly. I was very grateful that their card security people were so on the ball.
That’s when Paypal is indispensable, you never give your number to the clerk at the hotel in Rome, Paypal fronts for you and nobody messes with them.
My son has one that clips onto his ear sorta horizontally, nothing over the ear. He wears glasses too.
When I’m going to be on the phone for any length of time, I use the earbuds (I have an iPhone). There’s a little microphone built in, and I can put the phone in my belt clip and walk around. It’s not frequent enough to bother with Bluetooth. I actually use the iPhone much more for other things (email, weather, gas prices, streaming radio stations while I bike ride) than I do for actual telephone calls.
People running the plow without the 18″ square plate that lays the dirt out in the furrow you made in the previous pass was too funny. Guy throwing dirt in a three foot circle, killer, can’t wait to see that garden. Wait, yes I can.
Is that cat 6’1″? (see previous diet discussion)
What dust up was that?
This was from the bank that gives me the card, and its not credit (I don’t do credit). So one payment that’s automatic got refused. No biggie, we did it on the phone.
RevBev is off for now, but it’s over and done with.
That reminds me of the necessity of having a valid exit visa to leave Libya during the 1979 Iranian Hostage crises where the late Moamar Quadaffi was Iran’s sole ally.
Sometimes the travel adventures were a nightmare. :)
Guess not getting to Egypt is not the worst thing that’s ever happened to me, but I still am not happy it happened. Going to visit the pyramids in Mexico, instead, so there.
We’re forecast to get either (depending on which alert at the NWS one reads) either “wintry mix” or 1-3 inches of snow tonight into Friday morning. We’ve got about 3″ of fresh snow from yesterday’s all-day lake effect snow. By next week back into the 40s.
I am so ready for spring — and it hasn’t been a particularly rough winter.
I stand corrected Kris. Have a great day everyone.
Another continuous light snow here, it’s all about good planting in spring, all good.
More like 20 odd inches tail tip to nose, but about half that length side to side. She’s down 2 whole lbs (and maintaining that) after a vet recommended diet change early last summer.
OTOH, my six foot frame could stand to drop another 12 lbs to match spuds current reading, but I’ve been told that my head is way too big several times when speaking at political functions. So further weight loss could be problematic.
With that, I guess if it’s only happened three times you’re doing well.
Had to deal with an ID theft once. A family member used my wife’s info to get several cellphones. No fun at all.
An atta-boy to T-Mobile. They were the easiest to deal with for the bad bills, the quickest to get things together, and the first to issue the letters to the credit bureaus.
ATT made us challenge the entry at the credit bureau. They never responded, so it got removed that way.
Boxturtle (To keep the peace, I was convinced not to file against the family member)
I have one credit card and pay it off every month. I charge practically everything, because I get reward points that I can convert into a check every so often. It helps me track my spending, although a debit card would do that, too.
The only other credit cards I have stay in a drawer. One is Lowe’s because it was required to get their 12 or 18 month same as cash deals on a couple of major purchases. The other is Target, and I get it out only when I (infrequently) go there, because it deducts 5% off every purchase. It also is paid in full.
So I actually don’t have any credit except my mortgage.
Madame DeFarge method!
Hey, that cat needs all that coverage for the feet, let’s be reasonable.
Light snow tonight…but they expect 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice everywhere by tomorrow morning.
Boxturtle (Unless they’re hyping to improve news viewership)
Every small print explanation of terms I’ve read tells me that the credit card issuer can change the terms without notice at any time, so I avoid that sort of contract. Just my personal tastes.
Good Morning Ruth and Firedogs,
Chomp !
yes Bentonville, those are your fangs in your ass
Well, that’s the same place the link in the original post took me.
What are you getting when you get there?
Facts are hard work.
Now I’m not getting the video. Will have to try later, sorry.
You are undoubtedly correct, but I’ve never had a problem. I do know that my daughter and son-in-law got way over their heads with credit, they stayed on top of it until he lost his job and was unemployed for awhile. This was more than 10 years ago. They now don’t use credit cards but they’re STILL paying off the debt and the card issuers have changed terms a number of times.
Perhaps those of us who don’t carry a balance don’t have any problems with terms changing.
Morning pups! I’m up early for an ear dr. Appt. Should be back to normal in a day or so. Gpt to pick up some meds in a little bit.
Then it’s off to do some work. Sun coming out after a gloomy start.
.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer crowd.
Way OT, except for attempting to eliminate imported food from our diet.
A few of those were scarier than a good horror flick, I had to cover my eyes.
I am however traveling a short distance to view two Craigslist offerings, a single steel paddle wheel driven V-plow with adjustable hilling wings that might be excellent for creating raised beds, and a two wheel Simplicity with four different attachments that would likely straddle a 24-30 inch wide raised bed for very light surface smoothing, bed re-shaping or weeding between closely spaced block planted transplants.
Both machines appear barely used and failed to attract buyers last spring. Looking at both totaling less than $2 Franklins.
Sorry that happened, I guess my fear of debt is too deep to let me dive into anything. So far, that has kept my head above water.
I am being redirected to MyFDL profile pages every time I hit refresh, submit, etc.
now it may be my funky Mac, (I am running OS X Sabre Tooth Tiger after all) but there does appear to be something funky with links and redirects at the Lake this morning
Ok peeps, I’m off to the sewing machine. I am making a skirt for my granddaughter that shouldn’t be a problem, but I’ve had to rip out and redo a couple of things because of my own carelessness. And the pattern directions must’ve been given to a trainee who was learning on the job, because they’re wrong in several places. So it is taking me much too long, but the end is in sight.
See you all laterz!
Ouch. That feels like I’ve been blown off.
In the meantime I’ve read the comments and appreciate the folks who responded up thread to others who inquired.
I had seen demi’s comment yesterday at the time, and as a result of the bitchiness of it, did not return to the thread again. In fact, I woke up this morning thinking about it and planned to have a conversation with demi this morning about it if she was here. It disturbed me enough that I thought some empathy for her/honesty about my own feelings was in order.
I guess my intent is to keep the threads here at FDL so that it’s comfortable to comment here and that Over Easy continues to be a supportive place.
A few days ago, on one of the Dorner threads, demi started off the thread with a very dismissive comment about the poster. Enough people said something that she eventually seemed to understand that what she was doing wasn’t well accepted.
I’ve had at least one or two redirects every day this week, not always to the same place on the site. Happens when I hit ‘submit’ and when I go back, the comment has posted but is also still sitting in the comment window.
As a retired techie (not a WEB techie), the complexity of this site boggles my mind. It’s no wonder there are occasional problems.
Now *poof* for real!
That happens sometimes, let the mods know.
myfdleditor@firedoglake.com
honestly, can you think of an entity that has been more influential and diligent in supressing a living wage ??
meanwhile. . . Ecuador, Bolivia, and Paraguay are experiencing the largest percentage increase in growth and spending in their respective histories
Nope, not blown off at all. I’m sorry you felt that way. I agree with you, greenwarrior.
Some of demi’s comments have been inappropriate off and on over a long period of time, and I do hope she’s just taking a few days away from here now to consider what happened.
I have no intent to prolong the unpleasantness, nor do any of us. I like what we’ve created, and it should be a safe place for all of us to comment and bitch about snow and complain about the job, or anything else. It’s a supportive community and I hope it stays that way.
Sorry, no it wasn’t blowing you off, but an attempt not to go into things that got wadded up panties going yesterday.
One of the rules at FDL is that taking a fight from one thread to another is a NoNo.
Thanks Ruth, always a pleasure to be able to stop by. Off to a meet up with a couple political acquaintances in a bit. Too cold to attend in just my pajama sweats, but we are meeting in a little diner. I’ll have mine over easy.
Nice, hope no one puts the cinnamon buns in an apron pocket.
thanks, msmolly.
Oh, Fuck. That sounds scary.
fuckin socialists
We had three crews in Tehran when the Shah left the country
the night before he fled, had U.S. & British
NGO’sspooks dismissing the crowds in the streets, telling our Ops guy -’the Shah is th most secure leader in the region, this will die down in a week’ (I was on the phone to U.S. HQ, Union, and Intl Red Cross demanding they get us the f out)and yes, several “adventures” getting in and out of Africa back then
Ot but I’m gobsmavled enough tp want to vent: bpth my (!) SenTprs are calling om Obams to withdraw Hagel nominstipn! Where do they get the. Nerve? I don’
T evem care abouy how I feel abput Hagrl. This power play id judt too mich@
Grrr. Gotta make s couple phone calls.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, there Missy. I had no idea you were in Iran. What’s the back story? We’re you government or military? Peeps around here always surprise…
Where do they get the. Nerve?
from the very country about to bestow a Medal on your Pres.
jesus, even Reagan wouldn’t have taken a medal from Botha
LMAO. Mornin, teja.
So your two Senators are calling for O to rescind the Hagel nomination, eh?
we were Flight Attendants for what was a Charter Airline, (started by Kierkorian (SP?) we went everywhere. We did a lot of business taking Motorola, Bell Helicopter employees/families in and out of Iran. That particular trip, we were there to take middle class persians in and out of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for a Persian easter like observance
those particular spooks were drinking with a top Iranian general and SAVAK guy. that general was one of the four generals first to be executed under Khomeni and Ghotbzadeh (himself, later executed)
personally, I had watched the mood of the country change over a three month period (the Shah’s vaunted middle class was in the streets) that told me to get the hell out
From WaPoo
I can’t decide whether WH purposely nominated Hagel to get this very fight dot dot dot
or it was doing it’s usual Clinton-On-Steroids shite by bein’ all bipartisany and shit by nominating a republican for SecDef (Cohen)
had it been the latter, why not nominate Zini ??
Zinni was all hatin on war crimes and shit. Can’t have that at DoD.
same fight, no Israel problem
and you still make the GOP look like recalcitrant ass clowns for their opposition
These are idjuts who know the only way they stay in office is by idjuts voting for them. And keeping control of the vote. There is no such thing as representing the public known to the wingnut office holder.
Whoa! Great story.
Our charge d’affairs car was bombed and we dismissed school that day for the possibility that we would not be coming back.
I got out two days later and breathed a heavy sigh of relief.(then went back for 2 years after it died down.)
I foolishly thought as long as I stayed out of Angola, everything would be just jake*
I’m sure all that ‘heavy rice’ and ‘printing presses’ we often carried in the cargo hold had nothing to do with our adventures
*I risked the career I loved to stay out of South Africa – successfully citing Concientious Objector clause in our contract – Soweto Atrocity had already happened and Biko had just been diasppeared.
I don’t know the answer to that.
Speaking of “recalcitrant ass clowns” I did notice that McWaypasthisusebydate got snippy with a mom who lost a child in the CO movie theater about gun control. Only one day after he called another constituent a “jerk” at his previous townhall meeting. But it’s all good because he doesn’t think Hagel should be fillibustered.
you have text :D
Morning, pupses, and thanks for hosting, Ruth.
On my way to a dental appointment but just saw an email stating that Richard Wolff will be on Moyers looks like tomorrow 2/22/13 for a two part series, ‘Taming Capitalism Run Wild’.
Have a good afternoon,
Ohmmmm
Having constituents so bad they make him look good is not a great plus.
Thanks, worth the time to watch, as Moyers always is.
Today we needed to refill the bird feeder again/
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/774rUykfrXmw3_IIs8MN_tMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink
if I may, don’t think this isn’t even about their constituents (unless you count that handful of mouthbreathers in San Antonio church) most Texans would support Hagel (decorated Vet, etc)
this is AIPAC (do I get to type that word out on the Lake now ?) and the sheer nakedness of it all both enrages and amuses me
demi’s comment came from a place of suffering. You all came down on her like a ton of bricks. If you want her back, and she is a part of your group, you should apologize for that.
Not sure the pique of McAyn in his dotage isn’t part of the whole nonsense, since Hagel supported Obama for the presidency. The old man flipped out when he couldn’t get elected, just like he wrecked planes when he was not supposed to take them up. He needs restraint(s).
yep. they’ve all signed his Burn Book
and AIPAC, a small handful of folks driving US Foreign Policy and scaring the bejeepers out of politicians for decades (much like the NRA, hey, maybe their time has come as well)
prolly not since POTUS continues to pay fealty by speaking at their events
That Hague veered off from the general chaos no doubt makes them all burn. The right is not happy about the spectacle it’s presenting, but they’re all tied into their longtime commitment and going down with the ship. He jumped.
he did indeed.
although I recall a whole lotta folks rightly vilifyin’ his ass for his interest in voting machines just a few years ago
thanks for the post and host mam – got cake porn to surf :D
p.s. your place looks so lovely, believe that’s mr or ms towhee waitin’ on the refill
everyone have an FDL day !
Dad – if you’re still around, check out Alonso’s lap time at Barcelona.
Jeebus they’re fast this year.
I’ve typed and erased 4 replies now. I’m more than a little befuddled. First of “you all” didn’t say shit to demi. Is the suffering you refer to her crown falling off or did she share something I missed?
Funny, no one calls McAyn to account for S&L losses, short memory syndrome.
My favorite bird is the greater spuds, anyway. And that looks like a junco, northern bird.
Thank you. Very cool. Pretty race also.
of course it’s a junco – more coffee !
But you are extending it, imho. You’ve given your opinion 3 or 4 times….As you say, let it go. Please.
Sorry for confusing you, oldnslow. I followed the link given by KrisAinTexas above to yesterday’s interchange of comments. demi has apologized for her remark; I felt others should also. She is too good a friend to you folk for you to leave it the way it was left. That’s all.

Well, considering they still have most of the power, they sure do feel threatened, don’t they? Sigh. And so, as the saying goes, we can’t have nice things. (like justice, and safety from fools with weapons, etc. etc.)
You stop them from crimes on a reservation, next thing you know there’ll be living wages for Other People. And they’ll vote. And get stuff, like white guys.
LOL. Classic.
You know, the news is so international; men are not the same, or white, in lots of other countries. I do believe the internet may save us by forcing the US population, along with every one else, to note that the whole world is not white.
