Pickens backs off wind farm project: repor

Texas oil billionaire T. Boone Pickens has called off plans to build the world’s biggest wind farm in the Texas Panhandle, the Wall Street Journal said.
Pickens said the wind farm project was scuttled partly because of the lack of adequate transmission lines to carry the electricity from remote locations to cities, according to the paper.
The oil tycoon had hoped to build new transmission lines but could not secure financing, the paper said.
Pickens plans to find new homes for the turbines that he already agreed to buy, the paper said, citing a statement.
Pickens could not immediately be reached for comment by Reuters.

Texas billionaire, T. Boone Pickens, is causing quite a stir across the nation with his bold Picken’s Plan to build the largest wind farm in the nation. In fact, he has caused such a commotion, that everyone seems to be forgetting about Mesa Water.
Pickens’ company, Mesa Water, bought more than 200,000 acres of ground water rights in Roberts County, Texas. Estimating that he could make more than $1 billion off of the $75 million investment over the next few decades, Pickens wants to drain the Ogallala Aquifer to meet the demand for water in west Texas.
This video from Zaproot, The Truth About the Pickens Plan, is very entertaining and does a great job of explaining the slight of hand trick that Pickens seems to be playing with wind, water and the dreaded emminent domain.
Recommended. Here is link to Zaproot video you quote in your #4.
The image presented to the public by the big Texans is rarely, if ever, the true picture. (my paternal grandmother was born in TX 1859; been here ever since.)
thanks Aquarius
I’m not sure that I understand the point here. I despise Pickens as much as the next progressive, but I’m a strong believer in alternative energy and the loss of this project disappoints me.
i believe he never had intentions of doing this project, unless he could score millions or billions and steal water while he was at it
capiche?
Pickens was lookin to pick the pockets of the public. He wanted participation from government to provide infrastructure. Once he got that he would exploit his private natural gas project after the public paid the lions’s share of the set up costs.
Welfare for the rich. Socialism for the rich. Capitalism for the poor. Privatized profits socialized expenses. Socialized losses.
We could fix everything if we would abandon that huge Ponzi Scheme – Social Security. /s
I would recommend the documentary “Flow” to get a flavor of where the ‘big boys’ next gold mine is located. I believe T. Boone has an ever-so-brief appearance, and the theme, ultimately, is that we (humans) cannot LIVE without water . . . so he who controls the water owns us. I watched Mr. Pickens as he participated in Obama’s Energy talkfest several months ago. My feeling about the man is he can certainly talk the talk, portray himself as not only an entrepreneur but as a great ’savior’ for his fellow man. When it actually gets down to the bottom line, though, it must be HIS bottom line . . . it must be green . . . and it doesn’t matter who he destroys in the process. (Admittedly, I’m anti-Pickens. A couple of decades ago, he was hyping his Mesa Energy Company . . . and my parents, looking for retirement investments, ‘contributed’ what they could afford. They saw their 5000 shares reversed split two or three times, till they had only less than 100 shares. At which point they were notified that they were being paid pennies on the dollar . . . take it or leave it. Next time I heard Pickens’ name, he was philanthropically building his shrine at OSU, and was on to a new scheme. I expect his involvement in wind farming was merely a distraction to allow more time to control water rights in north Texas.)
he can certainly talk the talk
