I don’t usually watch Fox All Stars because, . . . well I just don’t. But I happened to catch this segment after some friends pointed it out.
This may be the dumbest collection of statements by a political panel ever uttered on the same show, with the possible exception of any single interview of John Boehner or Mike Pence.
Watch this through and count the number of inane comments. And pay particular attention to the Weekly Standard’s incomparable Stephen Hayes.
My favorite is when Hayes said that the media had taken sides in the "torture debate." There’s a debate about whether what we did was "enhanced interrogation or torture," he said, but the media is calling it "torture," so they’ve already taken sides. [Greenwald: NPR apparently didn't get the memo.]
After he said that, the others said nothing, and Chris Wallace followed with a meaningless graphic showing that a whopping 42 percent of news stories about Obama recently have been "positive" compared to smaller percentages for Bush and Clinton. Then, ignoring the 58 percent implied by the graphic, they lamented all the positive "personality" and "celebrity" coverage Obama gets, while, they claimed, there’s too little critical coverage of the substance of his policies.
This was a surprise to me. I read a dead tree’s worth of the NYT and Boston Globe every day, the WaPo and others on line, and dozens of articles/blogs I find. So I was shocked to learn all of those stories and analyses of the financial package, auto bailout, Gitmo, torture memos, spying briefs, the stimulus, the budget, climate change, clean coal, health care reform etc — literally hundreds of stories per week — were mostly about personality/celebrity stuff and that Obama was getting a free ride on policy substance. I had no clue.
Then the All Stars expressed concern that Obama could joke about sleeping with Brian Williams and that all the reporters voted for him. It didn’t occur to any of them the media might just be relieved not to be dealing with a White House full of morons.
Byron York closed by saying Obama might have "contempt for the media." The usual response is to say, "Byron, it’s not about you," but I guess we can’t say that here.
Crooks and Liars was as awed as I was. I’m hoping Digby writes about this, as only she can. So in anticipation of that, I’ll only add, "what Digby said."

Byron York’s hair is stupid
I think his feelings were hurt.
The Weekly Standard might get worse.

” Weekly Standard editor William Kristol issued the following statement with respect to the ownership change:
“I want to express my personal gratitude, and that of my colleagues, to Rupert Murdoch. His generous support and (if I may use the term) liberal disposition have made whatever we’ve accomplished possible.
Washington Examiner editor Stephen G. Smith reacted to news of the acquisition, “I’m thrilled to be associated with The Weekly Standard. I know and admire Bill Kristol and Fred Barnes, and eagerly read their magazine every Sunday evening. I’m certain the new arrangement will benefit both Washington-based publications.” “

Little Billy will now have a column in both of DCs reichwing rags.
Someday I’ll look back on this and laugh…
No time like the present.
Seriously, though, I think speaking of the “dumbest Fox All Star panel” must be a little like speaking of the “most saccharine Lawrence Welk regular.” The need for the superlative is overridden by the nature of the phenomenon.
Boy, I wish I could put words together like that!
Unfortunately, it’s just dumb luck. If I could write consistently, maybe I’d try blogging myself.
Actually, I was thinking the whole concept of a Fox All-Star Panel is similar to the idea of a Venezuelan All-Star Hockey Team.
And what about the biased coverage of the Galileo debate? Does the Earth move around the Sun or is it heresy? And everybody, with unanimity, across the media call it moving around the Sun. They’ve made a decision. There’s a debate going on. They’re not part of it. They’re on one side of it.
Don’t even get me started on the media bias in the flat earth versus spherical debate.
What? The sun does not revolve around the earth?
It has occurred to me that my central thesis is unsupported. Since I’ve conceded that I don’t watch this show often, I really have no basis for concluding that this was possibly the dumbest panel ever.
I don’t know how I missed that.
I love to watch the Foxy News All Stars and this really was the dumbest panel ever.
You are a sick, sick man.
it’s a source of wonder to me.
That’s why I changed the supporting argument in my brain cell die-off theory. Instead of basing my theory on the “average” intelligence of Fox News viewers, I’ve changed it to the “mean” intelligence, since there are surely a few liberals like you who watch for research or amusement and would thus bring up the average intelligence dramatically.
I can say with absolute certainty that Elliot is not a sick man.
LOL
I don’t watch it ever, I have satellite TV and use Parental Controls to block Fox News.
But I have a thesis that watching any show on Fox News increases the die off of brain cells exponentially.
All I have seen for years is “enhanced interrogations” and, even worse, “tough questioning.”
You know what would be awesome? If Byron York came up with one actual example of a mainstream media outlet saying that the Bush administration tortured.
Oh, right – that would mean admitting he’s wrong.
(raises hand) Point of set theory?
Say somethin’ stupid…G W Bush was totally misunderestimated.
torture is an enhanced interrogation method, as is forcing people to watch fox all stars.
I had this show on in the background (it comes on right before my favorite infomercial – that’s my story and i’m sticking to it). I had to turn around SEVERAL times because of the idiocy i heard. It was good for a laugh, but just imagine: these people get paid for bloviating like this! EvilDr: ur right about Elliot (ok, me too) being sick ;)
So FDL pups can’t deal with Fair and Balanced. Why am I not surprised?
We prefer Honest and Factual to “fair and balanced”.
Chris Wallace and the equally balanced panel of Hayes (or usually Brit Hume), Mara, Juan Williams and Bill Krystol are two right and two left. What could be more fair? Plus, Chris Wallace plays it right down the middle.
707 ROFLMFAO
Are you off your meds, or what?
*spew!*
Where to begin…
Are the so called enhanced techniques in direct violation of the Geneva Convention? The United States most certainly does torture. And I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that it is still happening.
Bryon York’s hair wants to dump him for Obama.
i think that Left wing blogs should stop linking, recognizing or discussing the vacuous never never land tripe emanating from these unholy orifices.
just a thought.
