Fred Hiatt’s column today wonders if there’s something wrong with American Democracy. It’s not worth reading, but since I made the mistake . . .
Hiatt goes through an extensive list of issues, crisis, problems, catastrophes, and shameful neglect that litter American’s political landscape, concluding that Obama has not yet solved them, and never once mentions that virtually every one of them was either created, exacerbated or ignored by the previous Administration. He never once says the words Republican or conservative or obstruction; can’t recall the corruption of corporate money/influence (and reflected in WaPo’s own pay-to-play scandal); can’t recite a single lie, phony conspiracy or hateful comment from Limbaugh, Beck, Palin, Armey, or the birthers/tenthers and granny deathers that have poisoned and inflamed the discourse; and of course neglects to mention that the worst of America’s foreign policy blunders over the last decade were cheered on by Fred Hiatt and his chosen contributors to WaPo’s op ed page.
The comments there are hammering Fred, and if he’ll bother to read them, he’ll discover American democracy is not dead; he’s just been voted off the planet. So if you’re feeling democratic today . . .

FFFH actually bothering to read what his readers are saying? Bwahahahahaha.
Good ‘un Scarecrow, I needed that laugh.
I’ll take your word for it that it’s not worth reading. Sounds like typical Hiatt, i.e. really crappy.
Based on this description, it sounds like the only thing he got right is omitting mention of “Republican obstruction”, since the Reps are in no position to obstruct anything.
The Reps can’t do anything the Dems don’t let them do, so they haven’t been part of the equation at all this year. You could say the Dems have only laundered actions through them.
Oh, and since Obama immediately seized personal ownership of the bailout and the war with great gusto, it’s also meaningless to say he inherited all that from the Reps. Not to mention the enthusiastic support they got from the Dems for both.
(Coming in with Obama’s mandate, the people so riled up, and the enemy on the ropes, a perfect Shock opportunity, I would’ve done things very, very differently, but there you go.)
