You won’t want to miss this segment of the Ed Show. Lanny Davis, who’s done as much as any corporate Democrat to attack liberal positions on behalf of corporate interests, has been doing the circuit to defend the travesty Senate health bill, attacking those furious at Joe Lieberman and the White House for fronting a bill his firm’s clients want.
But Lanny has saved his worst to go after Jane Hamsher for her efforts to show the links between veal pen advocacy groups and the money they pay to the spouses of elected officials. The Village would prefer to sweep that subtle corruption under the rug.
While Lanny complains about "personal attacks," he personally attacks Jane. Bad move.
Jane does her homework and when she’d done, the central question for the segment is "which drug companies and health corporations are you speaking for when you tout this bill?" Lanny wobbles, dodges and then gets "Who’s paying you to be here?" Lanny goes down for the count.
After just one round with Jane on the Ed Show, Lanny’s credibility was in need of a waaaambulance. He was last seen being wheeled out on Joe Lieberman’s gurney, on the way to the emergency ward.
I’m sure Lanny has great insurance himself. But unfortunately, in the following segment Laura delivers the final blow: the providers may hold off treatment when they realize that Lanny’s reputation suffers from a pre-existing condition. This case has "Rescission" stamped all over it.

I love how Lanny spends all of his time attacking Jane and ignoring her questions about his firm, then accuses her of making personal attacks.
That look on his face is truly priceless.
Didn’t know what hit him.
Lanny comes from the Clinton school of attack, attack, attack.
He was pathetic. And why does Mathews hall out the same old farts? So what is his real name Lanford? Why does he always appear when the DLC needs a speaker? Jane got right into him. Good.
And don’t forget overtalk, overtalk, overtalk.
(And of course, NEVER answer the question. Instead, answer a question that you’ve asked yourself, in your mind. Or reply with a question a la David Axelrod.)
I agree Ed’s refreshing. MUCH better than blowhard speed-talker over-talker egomqaniac Thom Hartmann (whose politics are solid, but I can’t listen to the guy).
Jane slew Lanny Davis.
Nice post. I saw the performances by Jane and Laura too. They were both great. I thought Jane really destroyed Lanny who had done very little homework for the occasion. I also had the feeling that perhaps Ed had ambushed his old friend Lanny, knowing that Jane would eat his Dinner. Ed’s been really strong in his continuing support for a public plan, and his common sense approach has been really refreshing.
Hi, lets. Thanks for hanging in there.
A pleasure Scarecrow.
I sort of love Jane Hamsher for her speaking so incredibly eloquently. It was really impressive when she talked to the “liberal” dude Lanny Davis on Mr. Ed show, when she pretty much gave him the opportunity to back-fill and scratch his noggin, and “give the worse as the better reason”. We need to have real health care, not a hand-out to the insurance industries. There are those democrats who want to get re-elected, with help from Aetna and Humana and United Health, and there are those of us who know it could be better, who look to the rest of the civilized world as our argument. I really admire Jane Hamsher.
Sinceely, Helmicker
Yes, it was a MAGNIFICENT ambush of uber Neo-Con corporate toady Lanny Davis… who has the audacity to present himself, not merely as a “moderate Democrat,” but Davis repeatedly presents himself as a “liberal”!!!
Unfortunately, of course, the ENTIRE DC “Democrat” Party has been HIJACKED, BODY-SNATCHED, STOLEN, thrashed & tortured by the Neo-Cons and corporate shills, of whom RAHM EMANUEL, JOE LIEBERMAN, ROBERT RUBIN, LAWERNCE SUMMERS and now LANNY DAVIS are the most clearly “Right-Wing DINOs” POSING as “democratic” Democrats.
THANKS to Jane (and Big Ed) for being so well prepared for this – as a health-insurance paying American, Ed is as disgusted with the insurance cabal stranglehold on Washington as anyone is, but it is HARD to CALL ‘em OUT, without looking like a ranting LUNATIC.
Jane did just that last night (called ‘em out, without looking like a lunatic) – Bravo!
I’ll speak for “the thirty million”. As EW is trying to get at, the numbers are not going to work. You could give me 8k toward a 12k policy and I still couldn’t afford it without giving up too many other things in my life (food, clothing, my house, my horse, etc.). There is nothing in the senate bill to save me from bankruptcy if I get sick. Nothing. And this does not even speak to the co-pays, etc. I would be surprised if this bill picked up more than 10 of the 30-33 million the “boyz” keep going on about “saving” from themselves.
Senator Ronnie W. summed it up nicely, “We don’t want to hand the right a victory”. Like these people really give a rat’s ass about “da people”; they only care about their jobs, which I will do my part to take from them. R U listening Kay?
And hey, it’s not like Jane didn’t warn us what we would be getting with Barry. And Bill’s a fraud. And L. Davis = gag reflex.
Yes, I doubt the 30 million too, as I say here.
I’d really like to see more and more on this [h/t to Marcy].
This bleating by Obama, and now even Bernie Sanders, about “how could you deny the 30 million [or whatever] without coverage” has GOT to be dismantled for the lie that it is.
The host of every show on which this crap is shoveled out by the administration ought to be prepped with FACTS to ask questions and show how full of shit these guys are.
YES!!!
Dear Jane:
Im very proud of you, you showed Lanny Davis for what he really is, and a horror of a human being.
thanks scarecrow! everyone is talking about how great jane was (and who doesn’t love to hate lanny davis?). no tv here, so was hoping/looking forward to a youtube. that was lightning fast and much appreciated. now to watch. hmm, maybe with some popcorn. *g*
Yeah, but thank the FDL backstage fairies. They had this up in minutes.
You know all this time I thought this guy was RENNIE Davis! Duh.
I caught it on “theirtube”
It was like a Muhammed Ali knockout in the first round.
He staggered back in for a minute, but it was all over but the crying.
Speaking of the “veal pen”, NARAL sent me an e-mail today urging me to contact Olympia Snowe to save their asses from Ben Nelson. Ms. Snowe has sickened me from the start, is no friend, and I wouldn’t piss on her if she was on fire.
How did she get to be savior of the western world in the minds of the Dem Party?
How did Olympia get to be the savior of the western world.
She’s very good at being Mitch McConnell’s Rose O’Neal Greenhow. Leads Harry Reid right along.
Was amazing seeing Ed and Jane double-teaming Lanny. Democratic consultant,eh? Is that what corporate shills go by in DC these days?
Hats off to Jane for coming arms with nothing but the facts.
That is exactly what corporate shills go by these days.
Great job Jane!!
Lanny Davis is skillfull, but not accustomed to talking in forums where his schtick is not taken at face value. He must usually chat with Chris Matthews.
Davis infantilizes Jane and all progressives for opposing the industries that make him and his firm wealthy. He’s entitled to represent them, but not to pretend that he speaks, like David Brooks, from some faux level of disinterest about legislation that would make him, his firm and his clients wealthy.
Davis never answered Jane’s question, which means he had no answer that wouldn’t embarrass him. Presumably he learned that as former White House counsel. Slippery Washington lawyer, is an old but useful redundant phrase. Putz.
That was a former WH counsel? You would think he could have come up with better answers than he did. Avoiding answering doesn’t work if the question is repeated and the Moderator Ed asks you again to answer the question.
To keep avoiding the question after that makes you look guilty. I’m betting Lanny never faced a real Moderator for a debate before.
Atta girl, Jane! You whacked this jacka$$ with aplomb. He looked like a corrupt corporate shill. This was priceless.
I seem to recall an appearance and/or op ed by Lanny Davis telling liberals they should give up on the public option months ago, because it was too divisive. Or do I have him confused with someone else, like Paul Starr? Anyone remember that?
November 3
Bingo. That’s the one. Thanks, bro.
I always get Lanny Davis and John Podesta mixed up. Another corporatist shill. Perhaps the one you’re thinking of.
That was a beautiful thing to watch, Jane. You rock!
I remember that. I was carried at Huffington.
New game: Whack a Corporate Troll/Shill! This guy looked like his head was spinning while he sputtered when she hit the nerve of whom he was shilling for.
That really was a thing of beauty today, Jane.
Thank you.
Fool wasn’t it an African American who got Jane that Blackface image for her post? African Americans can call themselves the N word or use Black face if they want to.
That’s a little weak bro.
I don’t tell African Americans what is ok or not ok about their culture if one African American says its ok I take their word for it unless I think they are funning me.
Well, “got Jane the Blackface image” ain’t exactly the same thing. That’s like a brother whispered the N word in your ear so it would be cool for you to use it. . .ya think?
Point taken still Jane is not the first person to make a social mistake about race who meant well. I’ve read her stuff I think her heart is in the right place.
I do not think she is another Rush with the Barrack the Magic Negro song.
Agreed
Davis looked like a tired old chrone! He emptomized “old school dirty politics” and looked pretty cheap and shabby. His reputation is tattered now, thanks to Jane’s intelligent repartee which stunned him and sent him for a loop.
Lanny is connected to the Coup in Honduras how? Just how connected and evil is this guy who does he write for?
Davis is a lawyer and partner in a Washington, DC, mega-law firm. I presume that he or his firm are registered lobbyists for the Honduran government, which would mean they put the best face possible on what that government does and sells it to Congress and senior officials in the executive branch, such as those at the State Dept and the DoD. Lipstick, pigs, fly. That’s a big chunk of money that helps keep the first and second oldest professions busy in DC.
Thanks for the information so the guy is evil.
From Wikipedia:
If you’re like me, you might have thought Jane was referring to some old coup, but it’s a recent event, and apparently Davis has been a part of trying to make it look acceptable to the American public.
That whole mess has bounced back and forth so much it’s dizzying. Even Sec Def Clinton has bounced around on it. Have NO idea where it’s all at these days, but USA and special interests were all OVER it from the get go, and it smacks of US School Of America’s and Air America type intervention into another country, once again.
Honduras don’t have oil that I know of . . . wonder what the issue was, drug routes and drugs perhaps?
Maybe. Or maybe bananas. It’s a source of low-cost labor.
But that’s what Vietnam was all about!
Bananas.
And rubber.
Trade routes off its coast.
COMMIES! NO IT WAS ALL ABOUT COMMIES!
DOMINOS!
COMMIES!
What a fucking waste that war was.
So many of our soldiers lives used and abused for business and political gain.
Now we have Iraq and Af/Pak, and Air America flies again, taking raw goods to places to be refined and sold, with all that cash never seeing daylight. Gone, like the pallet fulls of arms and money were gone in Iraq.
Sigh.
Time to make honey some dinner . . . Pups be well, way to share info.
KILL THE BILL!
We never learn from the past. We just try to figure out how it was different from today.
Place was full of commonists.
Yeah, I know, I was a child of 1 when we moved to Saigon and started our years in SE.
When we moved to Vientienne, Laos, more commonists.
I went to public school and played soccer with them, the only white kid in their block.
More of the same when we relocated to Bangkok, Thailand.
Commonists, everwhere.
The street vendors with their sugared fried pastry goods were the worst . . *G*
I’m sorry, stuff that was supposed to be sweet was just bland. Everywhere. Japan. PI. Taiwan. VN. Cambodia. Thailand. Hong Kong, different story. English sweets shops, hmmmmmm. Made landing at Kai Tak Airport almost worth it by itself.
Huh, wonder what happened in the time I was there and you were there . .
I recall one deep fried thin dough that’s rolled up in one foot tubes, and covered in both cane sugar and powdered sugar . . . they’d carry it on their backs in 4 gallon aluminum jerry cans, with holed drilled in it for a strap slung over their shoulders . . . that and fried bananas. Makes me cry when I recall the smell and taste, 40+ years later.
The powerful and well-connected creep Lanny Davis presented his case to the US Congress in an effort to persuade the US to support the coup. For a while, it looked like Obama was leaning toward appeasing Lanny Davis.
Then there was some vascillation (as usual) and some quiet murmers that coups are not a good thing.
No support for Zelaya the ousted (legitimate) Honduran President. Instead Hillary and Obama appointed our puppet Arias of Costa Rica to mediate (stall).
IIRC, The coup government still retains power.

OPINION NOVEMBER 9, 2009, 9:38 P.M. ET
The Way Forward in Honduras
The U.S. should recognize the coming election, whether Manuel Zelaya does or not.
By LANNY J. DAVIS
Excerpt:
“…Mr. Zelaya’s agenda is to reinstall himself to power before the presidential elections. If he succeeds, he might be able to disrupt those elections and create a constitutional crisis by ensuring that no one is credibly elected president. If that occurs, he would likely declare himself president ad infinitum—just what he was trying to do when he was ousted in June…The bottom line is that a deal is a deal. The U.S. government needs to insist on the implementation of the accord and endorse the results of the Nov. 29 presidential elections as verified by international monitors. Once that happens, Mr. Zelaya will be irrelevant, a footnote as a president who thought he was above the constitution….And then, on Jan. 27, a new president will be sworn into office in Honduras. That will restore to normalcy the proud little constitutional republic that has always been a loyal and reliable friend of the United States….”
I knew it was recent and highly controversial, but thanks for the details. I guessed that Lanny wasn’t paying today’s real estate taxes, limo hire fees and T&E bills out of older coups. Fujimori is already in hot water and Pinochet is dead.
Lanny is connected to Pinochet and Fujimori is this snark with friends like these in South America chances are he represented all those expat Nazi’s who hid out in South America too.
Yes he’s connected, he was confronted on Democracy Now! And he told the producers he did not want to debate a NYU Professor about Honduras.
http://www.democracynow.org/2009/8/7/honduras
I hope Lanny is discredited and doesn’t end up on MSNBC anymore, yikes!
The ONLY way out of this is Medicare For All, I hope they see the light sooner rather than later…
nice hat lanny, looks like a middle aged mans ass
Well done, Jane! It’s imperative to strip the mask off people like Lanny Davis. There are too many like him who
are accepted by the public as earnest just through the familiarity of seeing him as a member of an inner circle we once trusted.
Oh my, that was well done. I loved how he kept trying to go after Jane over process, because that was his only hope. It is like when Senators accuse each other of being discourteous. Courtesy is all they have going for them right now!
Great work by Jane and Laura. Tx. Lanny is an odious, deceitful wee man.
Jane is a hero!!
I might rate this Jane’s best smackdown yet. The guy avoided answering but the accusation was put out there and repeated for emphasis.
His response a mention of a net controversy which I believe if memory serves Jane apologized for and hey we all
me very included say or do offensive dumb things all the time.
Saying sorry and trying not to do it again is what counts.
Still just how many viewers will even know what Lanny is talking about unless they use google? A good comeback is one the audience understands instantly.
Still Jane was specific in naming the names of companies paying him. He avoided the issue and countered with a well Jane is a bad person too defense.
Problem is the issue was healthcare was Jane wrong about her facts? Nope:)
I really liked the, “Who is paying you to be here?” Of course the question was never answered. Putz.
I doubt anyone directly paid him to be there. He probably likes being on television as do we all. I’ve never been on television but I imagine it’s neat. A more relevant question would be how much does your firm receive annually from this or that company. As for the blackface bit, it’s too bad, but in the political business the best defense is an offense. What are the details of what happened? Everyone is guilty of bad judgment one time or another. It might be better if Jane responded, “You’re right. I used bad judgment and I apologized (I’m assuming that’s the case), Now answer the question.”
Love it! Great job Jane!
Can I have your babies?! :)
I don’t think she’ll let go of Katie and Lucy. *g*
I’d bet those two pups are smiling big when ‘mom’ comes home tonite . . *G*
Outstanding.
Excellent Jane: what is interesting is how Lanny did something that I’ve seen folks do if they are in a situation where they know their answer will get them in trouble. Turn the focus back to the other person. Lanny is not under oath and if he lies there are no consequences.
He’s another tip for Jane if she wants to rattle his cage again and he doesn’t answer the question. Lanny’s book is ” tell it all tell it first.” hey Lanny time to take your own advice.
Just watched the vid, still smiling big.
Thanks Scarecrow and back stage FDL techies!
Does Ed have vids at his site post show like KO and Rachel M do?
Great job, Jane! I DETEST Lanny Davis! His entire schtick it to pretend to be an impartial political commentator while he is ALWAYS secretly shilling for one of the interest groups being discussed.
You have to blame the media for not forcing disclosure from their guests.
What Jane exposes is the real dirty little secret in Washington: money.
More specifically the sordid disconnect between Wall Street money and that mythical, much cherished Mr Smith Goes To Washington “democratic process” that we are ever taught is why our America is the envy of the world.
They want to be free like us!!
Indeed, we have Barack Obama claiming we are over in Afghnaistan right now trying to help install a “true democracy” in Kabul. The only difference between Karzai’s graft there and Wall Street’s here however is that it is all done out in the open between K Street and Congress. Oh, the actual money transactions themselves are hidden of course. But nothing that Barack Obama did to garner over 200 million dollars from Wall Street to fund his own campaigns and political career was in anyway illegal, right?
And the more Jane insists on actually naming names, on actually pointing out how the Lanny Davis’s go about making grifters like Hamid Karzai look like a rank amateur the more ferocious the attacks will be.
In the end, Jane will be fiercely villified, dragged through the mud, not for daring to expose that the emperor is naked; no but for pointing out that his entire wardrobe was been purchased for him by the very same people who put him in power.
Jane,
I applaud your very keen and precise responses to the very angry and glib Lanny J. Davis who obviously hates the left of the Democratic Party. Mr. Davis shows over and over again from his writings to his many media appearances his HATRED towards the left. I have seen him spewing anti-left venom on C-Span, FOX News which just loves it when he shows his hate of the left wing of the Democratic Party and used as a useful idiot by Sean Hannity.
People like Lanny J. Davis may as well have an “R” after their names anyhow for being such corporate shills and the like.
Davis has become so transparent and his attacks were believe it or not, hardly suprising but very typical and standard for him. I knew he would bring up that “Blackface” stuff tonight as well. That is all he had tonight and yet that made no sense for he was way off the point of the show when he started yacking about that.
Jane Hamsher is someone I have grown to admire and respect for her own valiant fights in her personal life as well as her fight in the political arena with tools like Mr. Lanny J. Davis. It’s okay that Mr. Davis lied through his teeth when confronted tonight because that is to be expected from him.
Mr. Davis is thin-skinned as well. That is why he comes across as a big baby who cannot handle criticism from those he considers “less than.” That Mr. Davis peruses left wing blogs to see what posters write as he has done in the past is also very telling about this man’s ways.
Thanks Jane–you obbiously got to Mr. Davis even if he tried to put a phony tough face on tonight.
Heh, Rahm sent his shitbag henchmen from Media Matters after me last night WAY worse than anything Lanny Davis has ever done. Lanny’s a flim-flam artist, but he’s never gone sniffing around in my underwear drawer.
Um, where was this? Here at FDL? On TV? At another website?
Way to go lately, and ‘specially tonite with Lanny . . *G*
KILL THE BILL!
It was on the Ed Schultz show on MSNBC.
Not that, talking about a comment Mz. Hamsher made above about Rahmite’s coming at her at Media Matters last night . . . sounded like they hit her hard but I can’t find the info, vid, blog post, etc.
So, I’m just enjoying the spanking she laid on Lanny . . . *G*
She’s been on fire a LOT lately . . and it’s a pleasure to see.
She will come under increasing fire, for sure, the further she goes and deeper she gets under people’s skins.
We will have to support her. Keep her spirits up when they drag her down.
And we get to smile a lot, watching that lil smile of HERS, frozen like ice, knowing the next moment will usually see the final blow delivered, politely, effectively, deadly.
What a joy. *G*
KILL THE BILL!
I’m thinking that Jane knows what is probably coming her way; not that it’s necessarily posted yet.
Yeah . . .
Hell, they came after her for past boyfriend stuff that was kinda sleazy, nasty as all get out.
She’s tough, we got her back . . .
*G*
Dog help any of them if they come after YOU! *G*
Wanna have some fun with your representative? Next time h/she’s in town go up and say, “Hi, I’m [insert name here] and I’m from firedoglake, you know, Jane Hamsher’s blog. I’ve got a couple questions….”
We had a telephone town meeting with Doris Matsui, my rep, just this week.
18,000 and more listeners, supposedly. I never got to ask my questions.
I sent them in by email, with references to progs/libs, FDL, positions for we the people v. corporate interests.
Why Matsui was NOT part of the Prog Caucas in the House.
Crickets.
*G*
Don’t worry. When they go after her, we’ll go after them.
I’d like more info, too.
Man, there’s a never ending stream of shit unclogging, isn’t there?
If you take a few of my comments up above about media, how it’s all changed from 1953, Dien Bien Phu, and how our political establishment has been bought off by the war machine and big business, you’ll see the pattern well.
One can go back to the 1800′s for more class struggles and the role of big biz fucking over the masses.
And one could research WW1 and WW2 for massive transfers of wealth upwards, and how those wars were FUNDED and started by our own riche . . . and how wealth flowed from Europe to USA, and how it’s now flowing OUT of USA.
The shitz been goin on as long as our species has existed. And history proves it, regardless of who wrote the history, the patterns reemerge over, and over, and over again.
Thanks for your reply.
The White House has sold us out and Rahms fingerprints are all over it. You did one helluva job, the republicans were never there but now the democrats have sold us out, there’s not much to turn to is there? Thank god for people like you, ED Shultz ,keith Olberman and TRMS.
Keep it up!
None of these people defending the Joe healthcare plan seemed prepared from what I’ve seen.
Hmm, I wonder what it’s gonna be like when Lanny has to go back to the office and everyone knows he got beat the shit out of by a ‘GIRL’!
Oh wow. That was like a dream come true, especially with Laura Flanders batting clean-up with the Honduras coupistas/Lanny connection. Damn.
The pendulum is still swinging. If 4 years ago someone would’ve told me we’d be seeing that, I’d would’ve thought they were crazy.
Goes to show how much progress we’ve made. Also is a pristine example of why I say MegaMedia reform should issue number #1, since when these hacks like Davis get challenged, they got nuthin. It’s always been that way, but the MegaMedia Mavens have provided cover for the giant sham for decades now. The fakes are being exposed…slowy but surely.
Now we just need to get J. Low Lieberme and Jane on the same show someday!
yeah, STDJS!
(schoolin the dopes Jane style – should be in the urban dictionary!)
srsly, why has our side refrained from this kind of attacking, for decades, always, like some fucking creed? Jane is my fucking president.
Jane was focused, Lanny n ot so much. And Laura did a great follow-up.
It’s less that Jane was focused and more on that which she focused on: the part Davis plays in a “democracy” bought and sold in Washington.
Above all else, the media seeks to keep this part under wraps. Sure, there can be the occasional article or interview about “money from the insurance industry”, about “deals made behind close doors”. But that all supposedly happens “out there” somewhere in the shadows, on the periphery. It does not reflect the true meaning of the democratic process in Congress.
But when you actually get on a newscast and point to a man opposite you who participates directly in this betrayal of the democratic spirit Washington is supposed to represent to the world? When you suggest instead that Davis, Lieberman and their ilk are how we got to the point we are now in in the health care “debate”?,
Their business in Washington is how “democracy” works. And if you point that out eyeball to eyeball with the perpetrators you can bet the farm on what they will focus on: character assassination, pure and simple.
I don’t go to Media Matters much have they joined the Dark Side?
Ah, that’s a hint, I’ll check it out there . . . after I put on protective sanitized armor . .
Yeah, I’m curious about that ,too. MediaMatters was a life line in the early days. The B.L.T. days. Before Libby’s Trial. I actually spent Sundays with my parents[ like church, only different] watching Meet The Press and reading the New York Times, thinking we were really researching this coup in America. MediaMatters, CommonDreams,Truthout.
Then came a firestorm. Firedoglake with regular posters who were professionals and could explain in a way that was so chrystal clear to the common sense oriented person. And we started looking at Tim Russert a little differently. Charlie Rose, too.
Thank you forever !!…..Jane, Marcy and Christie.
You keep kicking ass, I’ll keep subscribing on a monthly cycle, sign petitions, phone call till my ears have callouses and sprinkle $10 donation+$3 tip when you ask.
But I’m thinking of taking to the streets again.
I’m curious too very.
That’s a killer comment, OH.
I did all that for decades, even schooled and worked for NPR/PBS, thought I was hip and well informed.
Till it seemed, in the 80′s or so, something didn’t jive right . . not even from the left wing lib media . .
And here we are today, with the lies and evil of the past and present blown open wide like a failing levee.
Deregulation, consolidation, offshoring, outsourcing, contracting, with a war machine that grinds us down dollar by dollar thrust upward from our lives, killin us all, one way or the other.
and a shame i didn’t think to play a *sputter*/”BLACKFACE” drinking game .. i’d be right mellow about now
Ed has finally done what the media should do demand an answer to a tough question from a GOPer er Dem?
Why is Lanny a Dem if he hates Healthcare and lobbies for the coup guys in Honduras?
To answer your second question: Dollar Almighty (cue harp and strings)
When i realized dems are pukes, it cleared up everything.
So are we forming our own party now? It seems we can’t make common cause with the current Dem leadership.
Yes, once you begin to grasp how, with respect to economic and foreign policy, Wall Street is behind both, lots of things become less complicated.
Lanny Davis, The Clintons, Barack Obama, Rahm Emmanuel, Ben and Bill Nelson, Rockefeller, Evan Bayh, Joe Lieberman, Mary Landrieu, harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Suzanne Kosmas and all the rest of the “New Democrats” (“pro-business”) and/or Blue Dogs (DINO) are the problem with the Democratic Party. They are Republican-lite.
This has always been our problem. The entire Republican Party is corrupt and half of the D party is likewise corrupt.
Did you hear Lanny point out that he and Bill Clinton and Obama are Liberals?
The audacity is astounding.
Lanny, Bill Clinton and Obama are corporate whores. You can’t be a Liberal and a whore for corporations.
I did catch that. It was an incredible claim after his lifelong efforts to clean liberalism out of the Democratic Party. What a liar he is.
Ed is great. But let’s not forget Keith Olberman’s trenchant contribution:
From his special comment last night:
There are enough villains to go around, men and women who, in a just world, would be the next to get sick and have to sell their homes or their memories or their futures — just to keep themselves alive, just to keep their children alive, against the implacable enemy of American society, the insurance cartel.
And:
They say they have done what they have done for the most important, the most fiscally prudent, the most gloriously phrased, the most inescapable of reasons. But mostly they have done it for the money. Lots and lots of money from the insurance companies and the pharmacological companies and the other health care companies who have slowly taken this country over.
And:
Which brings us to Mr. Lieberman of Connecticut, the one man at the center of this farcical perversion of what a government is supposed to be. Out of pique, out of revenge, out of betrayal of his earlier wiser saner self, he has sold untold hundreds of thousands of us into pain and fear and privation and slavery — for money. He has been bought and sold by the insurance lobby. He has become a Senatorial prostitute.
If I could get basic cable and KO without paying for Fox News I would:) Is CNN better now that Lou Dobbs is gone ?
The reason I refuse to buy cable.
I refuse to pay for cable. I pay enough to at&t. I can watch Ed, Keith, and Maddow on msnbc website right affter the show is over.
That whole 11 minute special comment from K.O. last night was Glorious.
I don’t have MSNBC either, or Comedy central.
I download KO and Maddow, The Daily Show and Colbert Report on ITunes. It takes a few hours for each one but I don’t have to wait for them to buffer and there are no commercials. You should try it.
CNN is still disinformation, but the mexican racist hate is gone. Last weekend they did about 5 hours of a running theme on Islamic terrorism, so they are still churning out the hate based on fear mongering.
I only watch Keith and Rachel. They say things about our political economy I never ever thought I’d hear on tv.
I often wonder how far they will be permitted to go before plugs are yanked by a network every bit as much beholden to the health care industrial complex advertisers as Fox and CNN.
If anyone has NOT gone to Keith’s MSMBC site, and seen all 11 minutes plus of his special comment from last night, do so.
A smackdown of all that’s crooked and evil in DC and our country, and the last half reserved for our President, as he closes with advocating for mass civil disobedience and people denying to buy imposed mandated insurance coverage.
I’m tellin ya, that was fuckin bold.

Thanks for keeping it alive tonight . . .
I saw part of the Special Comment, so I’ll have to go to the site & see the entire thing.
However, I seem to recall that he had some portion about Obama being “misled” or “ill served” by Congressional Dems. I’ve been meaning to go over there, read, and, if this is so, note Russ Feingold’s remarks that this is just the bill Obama wanted.
He’s made no effort to stand up for those who need health care reform. He’s deemed it more important to stick to the promises he made to drug mfgs and health insurers, but he doesn’t give a damn about the “promises” he made to the American public during the campaign.
I don’t want to see any pity sent in his direction.
Thanks for the heads up on KO. Just finished watching those eleven minutes. All I can say is “Wow….just….wow. Wow.”
Screw Lanny Davis. I still seethe over the time when he went completely nuts on Democracy Now!, attacking Amy Goodman and her show because she had the nerve to ask him real questions.
Serves the MFer right this time.
Jane nailed he got what he deserved.
Dear Jane,
I cannot stand Rahm Emanuel. I pointed out the fraud of this Emanuel guy on the Laura Flanders radio program back when she was on AAR. John Walsh at Counterpunch.org has written the most incisive articles on Me. Emanuel.
Jane, what is lost in the healthcare debate has been the role of Ezekiel Emanuel and the book written by Victor Fuchs and Ezekiel Emanuel which is sort of a blueprint for this healthcare bill. I suggest people read the book by Fuchs and Mr. Ezekiel Emanuel.
I do not go over to Media Matters very much but listen to Bob McChesney’s Radio show on Sunday’s. I also listen to Taking Aim with Ralph Schoenman and Mya Shone on WBAI in New York on the Internet.
Jane, I am very sorry that you have been harassed by these Media Matters people. I think Rahm Emanuel and Lanny Davis are nothing but slimeballs and I am being nice when I say this. Emanuel is a war mongerer and I will never forget his saying that “Jack Murtha speaks for Jack Murtha and not the Democratic Party.”
David Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett and others in the Obama White House are not as “clean” as people would think either.
Jane—You have my support all the way here. I have enjoyed reading your fine analysis the past few months at commondreams.org and am a recent newwcomer here at FDL.
Too bad if these yahoos cannot handle your accurate and fine analysis.
Welcome, and I’m sure Jane will see these comments.
Thanks so much.
This is what I posted earlier tonight on another blog for those who did not know about Jane’s confontation with Mr. Lanny J. Davis:
Lanny Davis Attacks Jane Hamsher on the “Ed Show” Tonight
Yeah, Check out Lanny Davis’ attacks on Jane Hamsher on the “Ed Show” from tonight, and Chris Matthews hate on the left netroots tonight as well. It was astonishing.
Lanny J. Davis was on the Ed Show tonight slurring all the liberals against this healthcare bill. Mr. Lanny Davis attempted to savage Jane Hamsher because she points out the facts about Joe Lieberman and his wife. The real reason why this slimeball Lanny Davis does not like Ms. Hamsher is because she ardently opposed Lieberman against Lamont in 2006. Mr. Davis is very hostile towards the left whom oppose his own neoliberal economic agenda and Mr. Anthony Weiner also claims Howard Dean is “wrong” as well.
Taking off from Lanny Davis or vice-versa, Chris Matthews views liberals who criticize Obama as backseaters, ya know those awful netroots types whom only have a vested interest in complaining, and Harold Ford, Jr., agreed with Matthews on this score. Matthews really attacked the netrots tonight in an ugly fashion and tried his best to delegitimize any opposition to Obama’s healthcare bill. For Matthews, those on the left, the netroots most specfically, who are criticizing Obama cannot be seen as legitimate people in their criticism, but, back benchers in the netroots who really do not count in the larger equation because they are less likely, according to his thinking, to ever be part of the everyday political process, in Washington.
I bet Chris Matthews could not name 50 Real Leftists if you asked him and this goes for many others in the media who say “left this” and “left that” yet never actually identify precisely whom they are referring to, and they get away with it. Joan Walsh was also criticizing Howard Dean and those on the left who oppose this healthcare bill as well. What a phony Joan Walsh is, but not surprised.
Washington-Inside the Beltway claptrap these days regarding this healthcare sham is the following according to big mouth Chris Matthews:
“Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good”
Yeah right. As if the healthcare bill is close to being “perfect” let alone “good.”
Matthews is out of touch but I applaud Ed for bringing out a far better outlook tonight.
“Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good” is the crap that’s been used to neuter progressives for quite a while now. I loathe the phrase.
As I said in September, the Good has lots of enemies: the Bad, the Corrupt, the Inept, the Incompetent, the Ineffective, and the Evil.
Magnificent.
Jane was wonderful, and it’s amazing the difference a guy like Ed Schultz on national TV can make. Lanny Davis is not used to being challenged; he’s used to the old boy network and the Village.
Just beautiful.
Googled media matters jane hamsher first four results took me to Media Matters but page was not found? Next result took me to NPR and a Kathleen Parker article I did not have the stomach to read her swill right after dinner.
I found nothing at MM after scouring thru 12/15 on all the forums, etc.
Look at my 75 I looked too maybe they pulled it?
Did the same and this was listed first:
Then 404. Guess that explains the “underwear drawer” reference…
Their game is so tired. “Blackface” and whatever that’s about…they’ll just repeat and repeat, while ignoring their 500 “issues” each of which is off-the-charts worse compared to the shiny objects they flog in order to talk about things they cannot defend or stand-up to the simplest of challenging.
Thanks Bonks . . so it was a Glenn Beck segment, with an author touting a book . . . sigh, garbage in, garbage out.
Dump Beck.
KILL THE BILL!
I saw that Jane’s love life is now an issue for the great Glen Beck? Guess Glen
can’t get it upaddress the issues so he goes personal and your right repeats everything hoping the brainwashing takes effect.Hey Glen are you still being payed to sell gold downplay the economy? In a year lets see how gold prices are lets remember to see how good the advice of the great investor Glen Beck is:)
Ben Stein, Kudlow, Kramer and now Glen with the bad investment advice its a wonder Capitalism can survive:)
Jane digs, Ed sets, Laura spikes. Game over, Lanny.
perfect description
What a pleasure to watch.
Laaaaaany never answered Jane’s questions?
I like it its a good test of loyalty. Its similar to You can’t serve both God and Money. (still trying to connect a message for emotional choice deciders).
The “Related Videos” column at YouTube for Jane’s vids grows longer, and longer, and…

PARKER: Blogger targets Mrs. Lieberman
RUTHERFORD DAILY NEWS JOURNAL 5 HOURS AGO

I think Karl sent out an Email to Lanny, Kathleen Parker and the Stage Right Blog. They all seem to use similar language.
Real writing on the same issue is different I write different than Raven and Teddy even when we agree on the issue and our word choices never mind our style of writing is also different same with our humor.
This smells like they all copied off the same paper and changed the answers a little.
Anyway, good on Jane for bringing this stuff up. We keep asking about these conflicts of interest various folks on these shows have, and we keep getting told that it’s OK. I don’t think it’s OK, at least if we don’t know this up front.
If only the leadership of the Democratic party (I think I will start calling them the ‘Democrat’ party like DeLay used to, just to spite them) had an ounce of Jane’s courage to stand up for what is right – and what is in their own party platform btw – we would be so far beyond all of this by now.
Lanny J. Davis talks in the manner he does to Jane Hamsher and other liberals out of a sense of “entitlement” being part of the corrupt elite establishment and hob-knobbing with the monied class of people. It is not surprising his type behave that way. It should be expected from him even as abhorrent that kind of behavior is.
I have seen many elitists from the Ivy League act just like Mr. Davis does in that obnoxious, dismissive tone. He believes he has earned the right to act this way and that people like Jane Hamsher or others on the left have no place to criticize anything.
It is a classic “I am better than you” mentality and “I know best” attitude by Lanny Davis. He is also very insecure and that is so transparent. People with big egos often suffer from very deep inferiority complexes.
In the world of Lanny Davis, he can criticize all he wants, but you cannot. In the world of Lanny Davis, he can have political views, but you cannot. In the world of Lanny Davis, he can support political candidates but you cannot. In the world of Lanny Davis, he can have a political viewpoint but you cannot. This is the small measure of this man named Lanny Davis. Lanny Davis is a very pathetic man. He is a sad case. He needs prayers and more.
The inbred Patricians think they know more than the Plebes:) Which if you consider they created the housing bubble, banking crisis, lost two wars etc and we the plebe bloggers warned them they were wrong about everything every time you would think they would be more humble?
Maybe prophecy only works if like Cassandra of Troy nobody believes you?

So 20th century. The neoliberals made it obsolete and replaced it with a new and improved version
I was thinking more the Roman common man vs the elite nobility
That was definition 5. I was just goofin’ around.
I know I was worried I spelled it wrong at first:)
If I recall the black-face incident, it was Dark Black who posted the graphic. Jane took responsibility then and continues to today for the questionable posting. Not once did she ever blame anyone else. Solid.
Balrog!
How’s the WeeRog doing these days?
The Penultimate Truth Of It All
The graphic in question was created by myself, with no request or input from JH whatsoever. It was used as an image for a tangentially related posting by JH at HuffPo in August 2006, and was taken down from their image server within 24 hours.
It was never posted at FDL under any circumstances and I have never personally used it in any context, save providing it free of charge to academic publications that I have no other involvement with…As opposed to Michelle Malkin and other neocon apologists who have displayed it shamelessly without permission for over three years.
Glenn Beck, Lanny Davis, and any other war machine fellator that wants to dig up the past to taint the present can jerk themselves into an incoherent frenzy over the topic to their heart’s content…The facts remain inviolable.
;>)
Thanks for that.
I was clueless as to what Davis was referring to,seeing it had NO relevance to Jane’s question about WHO’s in HIS wallet?
Well, I slept with Jane. At The Riviera in Vegas during the first Kos convention. Rather, we stayed at the same motel, so theoretically, Jane slept with over 1500 people in under a week. So goes rightard logic.
And Jane, that cheaterpipe shampoo you gave Lanny was awesome. It was good for me, was it good for you? Care for a smoke?
I think she is blushing.
That’s creepy.
It’s a bit old school, yes.
But OFG is one of us, and solid as the day is long OR short.
He’s kewl.
Cut the slack for him, he’s in our foxhole.
As a thinking liberal of clear conscience, I did not take it as a broadside, but rather a nod in agreement to this:
To some, it can be rather creepy when I divine rightard logic so effectively.

Jane Ham,
I’m glad you exposed Lanny Davis for the fraud that he his. I’m not a fan of him especially how he behaved in 2008 Democratic Primary. But you have to explain the Black Face? Lanny sited you somehow played the race card in the 2006 CT Senators race. I know people are allowed to make mistakes, even when it comes to, race, gender, or religion. And I get that Joe Liberman is an ass-hole! He pisses me off to the max, but why did u choose black-face of all because it’s very offensive to many African Americans? You should of referred to Joe as “scumbag Grinch face clown.”
Thanks ;)
Heh, by your calculus Wilt Chamberlain is a virgin . . . *G*
Healthcare, Guaranteed: A Simple, Secure Solution for America
Ezekiel J. Emanuel and Victor Fuchs (Foreword)
Paperback: 240 pages
Publisher: PublicAffairs; 1 edition (May 26, 2008)
Reviews
The Spine
“How to Fix Healthcare: Readers may recall an article by Ezekiel Emanuel and Nobel Laureate in Economics Victor Fuchs in TNR a while ago about their truly brilliant and, in my view, ineluctable proposal for paying for basic health care in America. Some time later we alluded in an editorial to the provocation of their plan to all the other policy contortions that pass as the foundations of legislation. Zeke has now expanded this work into a book, Healthcare, Guaranteed, published by PublicAffairs. By the way, he has a PhD in political philosophy from Harvard and an MD from the Harvard Medical School, and is now chairman of the department of bioethics at the National Institutes of Health. Years ago, he started his career as an intern at The New Republic. What a story that would make: those who began right here. In any case, Clive Crook has written a rave review, a truly rave review of the book in Monday’s Financial Times. Before you read the review and the book, you should know that at the base of the financial plan is a value-added tax. This is one value-added tax that you might like.”
Ezra Klein, American Prospect, August 12, 2008
“Healthcare, Guaranteed is beautifully written. It describes many flaws of American healthcare with maddening clarity. Some of its building blocks should be included in anyone’s health plan”
New York Times, 33: Zeke and book featured in piece about Obama’s health policy team“Another influential voice at the White House is that of Dr. Ezekiel J. Emanuel, an oncologist and medical ethicist. Dr. Emanuel, a brother of Rahm Emanuel, the White House chief of staff, is working for Mr. Orszag and is sometimes described as the kibitzer-in-chief on health policy….In a book published last year, for example, Dr. Emanuel proposed “a guaranteed health care access plan,” under which all Americans would receive vouchers to enroll in health plans offering a standard package of benefits like those available to members of Congress. The program would be administered by a National Health Board, modeled on the Federal Reserve Board….”
This is what Ezekiel J. Emanuel and Victor R. Fuchs wrote in the Boston Review about Single Payer healthcare in 2005.
Boston Review
NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2005
Getting Covered
Choose a plan everyone can agree on
By Ezekiel J. Emanuel and Victor R. Fuchs
Excerpt:
Single-payer advocates respond by noting the enormous popularity of Medicare. Single-payer is, they argue, simply a kind of Medicare for all. But popular support for preserving an existing program with entrenched beneficiaries is totally different from support for enacting a new program. Medicare was created at a unique moment, when Lyndon Johnson was—thanks to a landslide electoral victory and exceptional political savvy—the most politically powerful president we have ever had. But even he did not attempt to create a single-payer system for all; he opted for Medicare for the elderly and Medicaid for the poor. In the 1960s, many people rationalized these programs as the first step toward the ultimate goal of a single-payer system. But over 40 years, that strategy has proved illusory. Medicare has not been expanded, despite repeated attempts to lower the age of eligibility to 55, and any dream of doing so has been shattered by the enormous cost.
Not only does single-payer conflict with core American values, it is also bad politics. A wide variety of constituencies have deep ideological objections to single-payer. They are opposed to having everyone in the same program; they are against big government; they fear the rise in taxes; they don’t like anything Canadian or European. Without being able to appeal to business groups and conservatives, single-payer cannot be pushed through Congress.

From the E. Emanuel book:
I love this; it’s so Emanuel [must be in the genes; a very RECESSIVE gene]: look at everything not through a POLICY lens, or a “how would it work to solve the problem” one, but rather through a “which lobbying groups would support or oppose it. That’s how we decide our ‘policy.’”
He should write policy advice for the Israeli healthcare system which American aid money pays for.
NIce job of shilling.
Dear Larue,
Shilling?
I am not an Obama or Emanuel shill if that is your charge. I do not understand your attack. If I am wrong, I stand corrected. But I am not shilling for anyone and more importantly do not support neither Rahm nor Ezekiel Emanuel.
I just tried to make people aware of this book which exists and is sort of a blueprunt for Obama’s healthcare reform since Ezekiel Emanuel is part of the White House Healthcare Reform team.
I do not know what your real point is, or how by posting the book written by Fuchs and Emanuel equates me to shilling for anyone.
I am new here at FDL, but also do not wish to be accused of unfounded claims about my posts. Thanks.
Next time, post a comment, the link, and keep it under a few thousand sentences if ya want my attention.
Just a thought . . . ya posted half the danged book, it seemed, way overkill, ergo = shilling.
Just my take on it. Sorry if it was harsh . . .
Welcome, and good luck blogging . . .
Larue,
You have your way and of course your own style. We may differ on that. I am not looking for your direct attention anyhow.
I am not looking for a fight either. I hesitate to say this, but, I feel you are the aggressor here. I did not attack anyone here tonight, but, only lent my support to Jane Hamsher and posted some information I thought might be useful to those in here.
I merely posted excerpts and a book title. If that is what you object to, I am sorry, but, only that you seem to be offended. I am not sorry that I lent that knowledge to others here.
If I am going to be attacked by you and accused of being a “shill” I will cease to come here. I do not appreciate being attacked though. It’s quite unfair of you to be so certain in your accusations of me being some kind of “shill.”
I do not accuse people of such things myself. You can always ignore me. I would be more than willing to converse with Ms Jane Hamsher on this one as well for I did not come here to be a troublemaker. Please leave me alone!
Yes, and there is cyber-bullying but I will hold off from that charge unless you continue to attack me. I know that some oldtimers on some of these blogs resent newcomers, but that is not my problem.
FDL has my email and I am legitmately registered here as well.
Heh, if I upset you that much, interesting.
Please don’t let me be the reason you don’t come here anymore.
I’m just SOOOO not worthy of that distinction . . . .
I’ve made my suggestions to your original post and why I came off like I did.
Live with it. I am. End of story, and I’ll scroll your postings as you request, gladly.
Larue,
It is actually interesting that you attacked me and now want to pin it all on me for being upset.
Do you get your jollies off attacking others and then surprised others may not appreciate it? I do not attack the length of people’s posts. If someone’s post is too long, I go by it and do not read it. I do not take the time to yell at others and attempt to control them as you appear to. I am human and yes, I do not like being harassed or bullied. And your harassment and bullying is not appreciated.
You attacked me first. I did not attack you. I am merely responding to your baseless attacks. You should not make such baseless allegations either. You obviously do not know what my politics are but I guarantee I am far more radical than you ever could be.
Being new here, is part of the larger issue as well. That is why perhaps I am responding this way.
This will be my last post to you on this as well. But remember you started this not me. You could have been far more polite and judicous in your presentation if you did not like the length or the content of my postsa. But you chose an ad hominem attack. Ever thought of checking out why I may have posted what I did rather than making such baseless ad hominem attacks or are you just a natural ball buster?
Don’t take it personally. Larue tends to be rather adversarial toward me, and simultaneously wants me to run for Congress.
I have raised the issue of Zeke Emmanuel on a couple of threads within the last couple of days,
I was curious as to what degree his position with NIH may or may not have been influencing the reform issues themselves.
Interestingly enough, der Google showed no entries past August of this year, when the issue of “death panels” was the hot topic.
Gitcheegumee,
I have an entire file of Mr. Ezekiel Emanuel’s writings. You better check with Larue if it’s okay to discuss this issue though.
Larue objects to postings about the Emanuel brothers.
Yo, Gitchee, I offered up an explanation the other day that was completely taken from my observations of other **researchers**, but I had no info about Rahm’s brother.
So I was commenting without good info, and I apologize for doing so.
I don’t have time to track down anything about Rahm’s brother, but it appears that you are asking questions that require more informed responses than I gave you previously.
Left an apology over on the late-night EW thread, just in hopes you’d see it either over there or over here.

Wow, did Lanny Davis embarrass the entire Lobbyist Class, or what?
And for him to tell Jane that **he** doesn’t represent those companies is a complete side-step; if he’s a partner in that firm, some of the money comes his way.
What. A. Wanker.
Gitcheegumee,
If you want any info about Ezekiel Emanuel let me know, okay? I will try to get it to ya!
Right On Jane!
Something tells me Lanny-boy’s paycheck is higher than Jane’s. Just guessing, but I’m glad I’m not the CEO reviewing this clip and saying to myself, “I better find a competent advocate”. Thanks, Jane.
Problem is they only have Kool-Aid drinkers to choose from. Cannon fodder at any price.
Jane! You are my hero! I have never seen anyone on TV smack down a corporate whore before. Wow! You must have Lanny’s balls hanging from your rear view mirror. I can’t stop smiling.
Agreed best media smackdown ever.
I saw it live! The expression Lanny Davis’ face as Jane lowered the boom was priceless. One of my all time favorite television moments. “Do it live!”
So any bets if Lanny will ever face Jane again without an agreement about what can or can’t be talked about again like Dick Cheney has on his press interviews?
I love smart women, Jane, especially an ass kicker with helping of aplomb.
Think of the shit thrown at you as a badge of honor, the more shit the better.
I never, in all my life, saw Lanny Davis unravel like he did tonite. Throughout all the Clinton years, Lanny never came close to the meltdown he had tonite.
I am sick of all the Clintonistas surrounding Obama. Notice, how the whole Clinton crowd is all FOR this friggin bill. Podesta, Big Dog Bill, Hillary, Carville, Begala, and, of course, did I forget someone, oh yes, Rahm Emanuel.
But, there really is no one to blame but Obama himself. He is the one who actually wanted TOM DASCHLE to head up HHS!
God help me, I believed in the whole Obama campaign. ME. I believed. I bought into the whole line of change you can believe in. What is really sad, is, I believe the whole generation of young voters who believed as well, will become so FED UP and so DISGUSTED and so DISILLUSIONED by this OBAMA administration (RAHM) that they will not be as inspired, as motivated, for another 20 – 30 yrs. They will probably just sit out the next couple of election cycles. At least with a Republican, you know what you are getting. And, boy do they deliver.
God, I almost forgot about Obama wanting Tom Daschle. It still amazes me that they didn’t sneak that corrupt bastard in somehow.
Jane: Thx. I have been waiting for someone to expose this fake ass liberal for some time. Anytime Lanny and Clinton are for it you know it is a bad deal for working people.
How much do you want to bet the WH is in over-drive, making calls to every media outlet they can think of, threatening that said media “better not let than Hamsher woman on with our spokemen”?
And she didn’t even say ‘blowjob’ . . . *G*
But she did point out their spokesliar sucks. For profit.
I guess it’s hard to separate out where a blowjob and sucking is for fun or profit.
Wait. It’s not! Politically, anyways.
*G*
He works hard for the money…he sucks hard for it,honey…/S
I remember back in the Bush 1 presidency Comedy Central had comedians one after an other on and they all had Dan Quayle jokes many of the jokes were all on the same subject Murphy Brown, Potatoes etc the thing was they were all different.
Lanny’s, Kathleen Parker, Stage Right blog they all seem to similar sure they all probably read the same article about Jane but the comedians all read the same articles about Dan Quayle and none of the jokes sounded the same.
Ms Jane, that was excellent! You really broke a yard of stiffness in his booty. This jerkrod is always selling dodo! He and his kind practices, Overlay for the Underplay politics. You are one of maybe five on cable opinion shows that calls it, what it is! Double speak! A day without your site, is like a day without sunshine, thank you!
Ditto that!
Jane, I’m positive your support is growing exponentially now. Keep rested and be ready for a huge fan base. As for Mr. Lanny Davis, everybody who is paying attention can see right through his BS. He gets my vote for most delusional man in America.
Institutional Republicans and Democrats are just on the wrong side of history. More pressure and their phony rigged game just might be broken up.
Broken up? Heh, you make peaceable assembly to redress grievances sound so easy! As if you can walk on banana water or something!
;)
I thought that this info from Davis’ Wiki might be both informative and enlightening:
Lanny Davis is the Treasurer for Joe Lieberman’s Reuniting Our Country PAC. [2]
Attorney
Davis started his legal career as an associate at Patton Boggs in 1975 and became a partner in 1978. He served as special counsel to the President from 1996 to 1998, during which time he also was the spokesman for Clinton in issues regarding campaign finance investigations and other legal issues, including President Clinton’s impeachment trial.
After leaving the White House, Davis returned to Patton Boggs. As part of his work there, he worked as a lobbyist for the nation of Pakistan prior to the attacks of September 11, 2001.[8]
In 2006, through opinions expressed in the Wall Street Journal (August 8, 2006) and on Fox News, Davis strongly supported longtime friend Joseph Lieberman in his losing bid against Ned Lamont for the Democratic Party nomination for the post of U.S. Senator from Connecticut. He then continued to support Lieberman when he ran and won the General Election as an Independent.
In 2008, Davis supported Senator Hillary Clinton in her race for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, and has appeared on Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC as a surrogate for her. After Clinton conceded, Davis went on to support Barack Obama.[9]
In 2008, Davis questioned the United States’ response to the conflict between Russia and Georgia and advised present and future US leaders to consider the point of view of the Russian leaders before unilaterally supporting the government of Georgia in the conflict.[10]
He is a senior advisor and spokesman for the Israel Project, and serves as a lobbyist for the Pakistani government

I saw it as it was happening and kept jumping off my couch cheering Jane on!!! I live in CT, and the Democrat’s hatred for Lieberman is alive and well in CT!!! We will never forgive Bill Clinton and Lanny Davis for sticking with Joe like they were part of the old boys club and going against Ned Lamont! Jane was here in CT helping us out and I was impressed with her back then! Needless to say, I was so happy to see Jane go after Lanny Davis! She is such a fighter!!! You know for someone who has battled cancer three times, Jane was not going to succumb to likes of Lanny Davis! I just loved watching Lanny looking like a deer caught in the headlights and his constant dogging the question was pretty telling! The fact that Lanny Davis is coming on the Ed Schultz show…shows they’re getting nervous! If Jane can stand up to these Corporatist, so can we… it’s time we progressives stand up to our Corporate sponsored Congress and demand a REAL Healthcare Reform Bill!!!
Well, that was just delicious.
I could not put my finger on why I’ve detested Lanny Davis for so long…I thought it was just his fondness for Slick Willie.
Now I know. It just proves once again: always go with your gut feelings about people.
They just play us and play us and play us, like we’re so many casino chips.
I am really getting tired of being played.
Thanks Ms. Hamsher … helping Lanny Davis self-destruct while exposing himself for what he is encouraged me to check out FDL … carry on.
The DC LobbyistLawyer class is clearly not used to having their authority, ‘expertise’, methods, and privilege called into question.
Lanny Davis ought to have had far better information on a topic as huge as healthCos and health reform; instead, he insulted Jane over one photoshopped image — which IIRC, Jane rapidly removed — that was back in 2006. As if one photoshopped image means that all of Jane Hamsher’s insights, courage, integrity, creativity and smarts for the past 4+ years online could be demolished with *one* mention of a photoshopped item (and one that was promptly removed).
You gotta be kiddin’ me!
That’s all the guy can muster up?
What an ill-informed, negative coward.
1/7th of the US economy goes to for-profit corporations, overpriced drugs, and we have 30,000,000+ Americans with no coverage, and all Lanny Davis can muster is a smear about some 3+ year old photoshopped image?!
Honestly, I can hardly believe my eyes and ears!
Lanny Davis is making beaucoup money from helping PhRMA keep what amounts to a protection racket in place, and he tries to smear Jane Hamsher for a 3+ year old photoshopped image?!
Obviously, he wasn’t going near Jane’s truth-telling – but the fact that he repeated such a lame smear is really just stupifying.
Unbefuckinglievable…
The man should just stay in bed at least until February.
He’s a disgrace.
Lanny’s a corporate shill in liberal clothing. Jane calmly creamed his smarmy behind with every retort. Well done.
Butbut, what about the comity of the cocktail circuit?
Wooooo Jane! Excellent work on your part. If I’m ever privileged to meet you, the first round of cocktail weenies are on me.
First let me say to Jane, Well said.
Of course it is not a circular firing squad. It is using convincing pressure to give public support to counter the opposition that has taken to many liberties with our Democratic party legislators.
It was the republicans supporters that once they elected their guys went on about their own little world business and run amok.
It must be difficult for congressmen to understand the health care needs of people they do not interact with and live in completely different circles. They spend most of their days in the midst of well paid lobbyists and corporate executives. Not so much of a supermarket cashier or teachers.
Jane, you held your ground with Lanny well. My opinion,By Lanny not answering (disclosing) his monied connection in the health care industry.
Lanny, as is others are using this health care reform as a profit tool.
I think you displayed lanny quite well. If anyone is in a firing squad. It seems Lanny is by addressing you as he did.
I knew there was something I liked about this site and its information.
Jane, you rock! We can no longer let corporatists muddy the progressive waters and get away with calling themselves liberal. They must be called out for what they are.
- Tom
nice work jane the best home work i have ever seen!
briliant!
Your courage is inspiring Jane.
If Lanny Davis is for it, you know it is a sell out.
Note he avoided your question about profits. Indeed, as a partner, he has a duty not to be adverse to firm clients.
He is bought and paid for.
The Ed Show is getting better and better.
MSNBC now puts up three hours of political themed watchable TV Monday thru Friday. Ed Schultz,KO and RM each putting in a credible show up and do it.
Have pretty much stopped watching Chris Matthews anymore. His thinking and viewpoints become annoying fast anymore.
Saw Jane vs. Democrat Insider Lanny Davis and was delighted to see Jane put the statement and question about who Lanny Davis works for or who pays him to do TV face time. Over homeplate pitches and clear strikes.
Seeing Lanny Davis strike out a genuine pleasure.
Easy enough to see the D Party Clinton Wing and its 1990′s era cohorts are lined up with this Obama version of Clinton II WH to ram this stinkpile of betray and corrupt money politics sellout healthcare reform through no matter what. Sending out toadies like Lanny Davis to do the Shut Up and Get Down on the Ground routine. At this point Barack Obama is selling out fast and doing the insider deals and does not want any Left or Progressive push back. Clearly we are to knuckle under in favor of Joe Lieberman and the Blue Dogs. We are to shut up and take it.
Thanks Jane for not shutting up. Not taking it. Lanny Davis is a fraud. Just like too many others in D Party who are Clinton WH era DINO/Blue Dog/R Party Lite/corporatist types. Barack Obama has picked his friends.
Gumball’s problem is he invites people onto his show and them won’t let them talk. If anyone with an opinion and facts wants to listen to Tweety, they just have to watch his show.
I have found a hero Jane Hamsher. Her question “Who is paying you to be here?” should be the first question to all the talking heads.
thank you Jane, you have a new best friend Vegasjack
Great job Jane!
I also like Laura Flanders line, “Lanny is working for the folks who made the coup in Honduras so no wonder he’s not bothered by corporate influence back here at home.”
Great uppercut to follow Jane’s right to the head of Lanny!
Heard in a recent conversation, “Our Jane is on the Ed Show”.
Thank you Jane! At last! Someone who knows what she is talking about.
David, Gumball, Keith, Rachel, are you listening?
Someone on this post wondered out loud about Mr. Davis being called to account by a “girl.” Amy Goodman, Laura Flanders, Rachel Maddow, Jane Hamsher, these are the new articulate impassioned spokespeople for us all. But let us not forget that MSNBC allowed Ed Shultz to present this most enlightening exchange. So maybe there is still a role for us boys.
I saw this clown defending the honduran coup on Democracy Now, using the exact same tactics. Crying foul and complaining about ad hominem attacks, and then doing some really ugly ad hominems on his opponent Greg Grandin. Only that over there he also attacked the program host Amy Goodman.
What a surprise that a guy on the payroll of latinamerican fascists also thinks that a health reform bill that forces people to buy crappy private insurance is a good idea. What a surprise.
What we seen was the Lanny Davis Side Step Shuffle with both his feet in his mouth!, He couldnt answer Jane about who was paying him because he is in bed with the Insurance Industry!
The way to get a public option is the same way to bring back Jobs to America, People from Coast to Coast should stop paying their Health Insurance Premuims and instead of paying their insurance just send a letter to Your Insurance Company saying You will start paying it again when they endorse a public option, Now You Tell Me, What can the Insurance Industry do if the Whole Country Revolts Against Them? I will Answer that for You, They Will Beg us to Come Back!
“We The People” have a lot more Control Over What Happens in America then we give ourselves Credit for!
To get Jobs back in the U.S.A., The American Truckers from Coast to Coast should stop transporting products that were Made in China, And the American people should stop buying products that have been made at slave labor wages that China pays at $0.38 cents per hour, This is the only way we will see Jobs coming back to America, The American Pocket Books set the trade policy we have now, And it can turn it back around, Investors follow the trends of the American People and I say it is past time to start a New Trend!
Watching the triple team, Jane, Ed and Laura — priceless!
Watching the squirming, vile Lanny Davis repeat the stupid black face thing because he has nothing else to say — disgusting.
If the HRC bill will not really cover 30 million, it better be debunked quickly. You already have Bernie Sanders backing off in the face of this, and Paul Krugman referring to it today in his column in the NYT titled “Pass the Bill”.
Calling Howard Dean?
why does he holds his hand up like a squirrel eating? Who teaches these people to do that? It looks hilarious.
Why do people even book Lanny Davis to speak on anything? He’s a worm, a terrible speaker and an incompetent lawyer.
But you know what? He thinks that speaking out publicly, even if you are lying, is always the best thing to do. He’s made a career of that. In fact, when Martha Stewart was charged with securities fraud, the reason she went to jail was that Lanny Davis’ “legal advice” was “talk to the press.”
http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2004/03/22/040322fa_fact1?currentPage=4
And she was convicted of inflating the price of her company’s stock by making false public statements! And she went to jail.
He’s a total idiot! But when a corporation wants to lie publicly, they know who to go to!
I think she went to jail for insider trading.
No. Read the news articles.
“It’s never the crime, it’s always the cover-up.” Not always true, but true here.
Actually she got into trouble for lying to a federal agent, but that had to do with insider trading. Her crime wasn’t boosting her stock. The stock involved was a medical company run by a friend.
And for altering documents. Actually, the charge of inflating her own company’s stock was thrown out of court, so you are right about that.
But read the link. Lanny Davis had Martha Stewart talking to the press, and handing out a chronology of what happened that was inaccurate, when ANY LAWYER will tell you not to make another statement, and absolutely not to put anything in writing. And that didn’t do her any favors with the court.
And you’re right about something else. He thinks he’s a P.R. genius, and he loves to be on the teevee. As for your assertion, that “we all like being on television” and “it’s probably neat,” I don’t know what to make of that. Because I’m pretty sure that, directly or indirectly, his firm is getting a benefit from their Insurance Company clients when Lanny defends the indefensible Joe and Hadassah!
May I strongly suggest you review #183 and #186 upthread?
The info about Frank Luntz being used as an advisor should be a clue about dissembling information.
HIGHLY recommend reading the FDL thread link about that.
Bravo! and Well done, Jane!
this is one of the media highlights of a sorry, dismal year.
The “Democratic” Party has been hijacked by Neo-Con corporate toadies and Right-Wing warmongers, POSING as “Democrats,” of whom Rahm Emanuel, Joe Lieberman, Robert Rubin, Lawrence Summers, and now Lanny Davis (thanks to Jane’s DEMOLITION) are the most visibile.
Unfortunately, with their HIJACKING of the Obama “Change” administration, and their SABOTAGE, squashing, of genuine, populist, reform “change” talking points, they have pushed the Democrat Senate and House FURTHER to the insane, radical right.
In a nutshell, they want to give TWENTY+ TRILLION taxpayer-extorted dollars to their friends at GolddamnSachs and on Wall Street – without a dime’s worth of accounting! – AND they want to EXPAND America’s costly overseas wars – while giving us serfs and peons PENNIES and CRUMBS in the way of affordable health care, mortgage protection, pension protections, job security, and social security enhancement – all while OUTSOURCING ENTIRE US industries to China! – INDUSTRIES DISMANTLED with TAXPAYER provided subsidies!
This is not a “conservative” agenda coming from the Obama White House, it is a RADICAL RIGHT-WING AGENDA!
George Bush and Dick Cheney redux, with a slightly smoother front man!
I saw it, but don’t see much reason to celebrate. Lanny got the last word, and there was too much talking over eachother, which didn’t favor Hamsher. She got her points in, but I did not see this as a crushing of Davis. Look at the clip, and in the end you’ll see Davis looks quite pleased.
Don’t get me wrong–I think Jane did well, but Ed managed this poorly, and I think Davis got off the hook.
Oh my, I saw it completely differently.
He looked stricken. He looked like people with chest pain looked, when I worked in a coronary care unit. A little gray in the face and in pain.
I didn’t see this as a crushing of Hamsher,neither.
He NEVER answered the question as to whom he worked for..it was all “spin” from Lanny.
And you can believe that the precedent has been set for future “guests” ,in subsequent interviews,in other venues..
THAT is the REAL impact of Jane’s demand for transparency and accountablity from Davis…it’s just the tip of the iceberg.
So, who you think will actually get the last word, when its all said and done?
Jane “who is paying you” Lanny. “who is paying you”
Leen, por favor, can you do me a link for the Seminal story at #186?
I’d owe you big.
If you can ,and have time, and are so inclined.
Thanks.
Which Seminal story?
Is this the link you are looking for?
“Israel’s project secret Hasbara Handbook exposed”
http://www.richardsilverstein.com/tikun_olam/2009/07/10/the-israel-projects-secret-hasbara-handbook-exposed/
Indeed it is.
Thank you so much.
I had no idea of Davis’ affiliation with these groups…nor had I read this Seminal story in July of this year.
Just amazing.
And amazing kindness on your part. Thanks again.
Jane “answer the question, who is paying you”
Lanny falls apart. Jane never attacks him personally. She attacks by asking a valid and critical question “who is paying you? “Who do you represent”
The one thing that Lanny does admit is that Hadassah “used to work for pharmaceutical companies”
As Ratfood pointed out earlier “Jane digs, Ed sets, Laura spikes. Game over, Lanny.”
Flanders spike ” But Jane personalities aside is asking the important question. WHO is working for WHOM and for WHAT.”
Flanders slams it down.
Whenever scoundrels are held accountable, they scream PERSONAL ATTACK!
Lanny’s face tells it all. Jane hit a nerve and hit it hard. Laura Flanders followed up by cutting off the neuro transmitters.
Dear Jane Hamsher,
Let us be clear. We love you very very much.
Why did Lieberman asked Bill Clinton (yeah, Bill Clinton) to stump for him in CT?
Bravo to Jane, who almost alone, and with terrific sang froid, tells the truth on national television about the total corruption of these talking heads and politicos.
Keep pulling that veil back, Jane. And we will do the same, following your example.
