President Obama’s campaign manager, Jim Messina will be at Harvard University on Tuesday, hoping to urge Harvard students to help “pass the bill” or reelect the President or something. However, students and others opposed to the Tar Sands oil development and the Keystone XL pipeline are also planning to be there to greet him.
Boston/Cambridge, Massachusetts supporters of TarSandsAction are hoping to remind Messina that support for Mr. Obama may well depend on the President showing a lot more concern for the environmental/climate risks of tar sands development than either he or his State Department have so far shown.
From the Tar Sands protest organizers:
Obama 2012 campaign manager Jim Messina will be making an appearance tomorrow at Harvard, and some of your fellow Tar Sands Action arrestees Serena Zhao and Same Novey are organizing a demonstration to let him know that the President needs to reject the keystone XL pipeline if he expects our full support in the coming months.
This is an amazing opportunity to reach someone who has a great deal of influence on the President’s decisions. It’s not often that you have an opportunity to interact directly with such a high-ranking member of the President’s inner circle, and we should do everything we can to take advantage of it.
Here are details:
What: Tar Sands Action rally for Jim Messina, Obama 2012 campaign manager
When: [Tuesday], 9/13 at 3:00-4:30
Where: Kirkland courtyard on Harvard’s campus in Cambridge
Facebook Event link
[Update: Organizers asking folks to show up at 2:30 to get ready.]
So if you’re in the Boston area, just hop on the Red Line, get off at Harvard Square and walk down to the Kirkland House, right across from the Kennedy School. Messina is scheduled to be at the Kirkland House Junior Common Room about 3:30 p.m. Here’s a map.
Hope to see you there.

Dang it, right down the road and I will be in the wrong state. Go get ‘em Scarecrow and yell twice as loud for me ; )
WOO HOO!
keep it up!
Back in the ’60′s,. merely a transient, catching the bus from Harvard Square out to my family in Concord… Well Harvard students have come through in the past , the distant past, they will now again.
Good let’s go.
No excuse, phred. Out here, “in another state” is only a half hour away.
Rock on Brothers and Sisters.
Go for it
I have received 4 letters from the President to Senators, Nancy Pelosi, and the Democratic party. I told them I could not support them in money form as long as they put away the EPA report and the Keystone XL Tar Sand pipeline!!!!
They stopped calling me a couple months ago. Must have been something I said.
What an uplifting pic. Glad they don’t bother with the “Keystone” on their signage. (Though I saw it referred to as “Gravestone” somewhere the other day, and thought that was excellent too.)
Read the quote “if he expects our full support”. What an absolute joke!! Like the PCCC petition, we won’t donate or work for you. Hello, all he needs is your vote, do you have an IQ hidden somewhere?. Wall Street and the bank will give him all the money he needs. What a bunch of id. . .
The organizers are seeking support on the Tar Sands issue across a broad spectrum, not just people who are turned off by Obama. They’re not idiots and don’t deserve to be insulted.
Maybe so, but why issue a meaningless threat? My insult was not for their actions, which I applaud. My insult was for this meaningless threat. By these meaningless threats the progressives make themselves a doormat, in my opinion.
My reply ended up below, but I am not finished. They protested the tars sand which I applaud. In doing so, they made a very strong statement that we will not back down; the tar sands are an environmental disaster waiting to happen – the pipeline must not be approved. Nothing more needed to be said. But they did say something – they said we will not give you our full support. Why make a statement? Are they saying – Obama you are a bad boy destroying the earth, so we will only give you 80% of our support. Please explain why a statement was made and what it means.
So glad to learn of this opportunity (not that I would have any chance of going), but friends with whom I’d shared posts about the WH demonstrations, have asked what’s happening? I replied I really didn’t know as the issue seems to be off the radar in MSM and I’d not seen anything new at FDL. So you’re sounding the alarm/invitation is a welcome development and I’ll pass this on to those inquiring.
Blessings,
Protect the slave owners. Maybe when American realizes they are essentially slaves to a corporate monopolized commodity, Americans exploited for gross profit concerning energy just as slaves where enslaved by slave owners, who refused to change their way of doing business… FUCKING people for profit?
You know nothing of the person/people who wrote that, nor about their motives. Yet you assume you do and insult them. I spent a weekend in jail with 65 people who were just decent people. And you think you’re morally superior? Do not insult them again, or you’re gone.
