ABC’s Jake Tapper pats himself on the back for debunking another Andrew Breitbart-originated race-baiting effort. But in doing so, Tapper implies he accepts the race-baiting premise, reminding blacks once again that if you say or do something honest you get called “controversial” and become unacceptable in polite company.
What’s left of the Breitbart blog contrived with Fox News to publicize as somehow new and damning what were in fact already public videos of Harvard Law student Barack Obama defending a black professor, Derrick Bell, for taking a stand in favor of greater racial diversity at America’s most elite university. That event, which happened in early 1990s, is neither news nor controversial, let alone somehow damning.
But that didn’t matter to the race baiting cabal at Fox/Breitbart, which tried to depict the event as Obama endorsing “radical” views from some”radical” black mentor. Right on cue, other right wing sites and orgs piled on this non-story, hoping to get the main media folks to bite and legitimize the false framing. Enter ABC’s Jake Tapper.
Tapper compliments the paid shills at the “conservative” Heritage Foundation for checking whether this black radical mentor — aka distinguished Harvard Professor – ever visited the Obama White House. And sure enough, the visitor logs do show someone with the name Derrick A. Bell visiting the White House in January 2010. OMG! A respected member of the Harvard faculty visiting the White House! We told you so! Obama invites black radicals to the White House!
But Jake Tapper wants to rise above this. He reports that the birthdates don’t match and so it was probably someone else named Derrick Bell. Whew!
There are two problems with the Heritage post. One: it excludes some details from the visitors’ logs. There are 28 columns on the publicly released records, the Heritage blog lists seven. The data they omit includes a description of what the visit was for: in this case, for both visits: TOURS. A White House tour – not MEETING or APPOINTMENT. . . .
But Bell surely could have taken a tour or two and then met with President Obama, right? Sure, it’s possible – and I asked the White House about it. The answer from a White House official: this was not the same Derrick A. Bell. He had a different birthday than the late law professor, whose birthday was November 6, 1930. That would seem to undermine the significance of this visit.
So, this would be an important story if we found out a black professor from Harvard whose views on increasing faculty diversity Obama once defended actually met with Obama? Then the right would be vindicated? Uh, no.
Earth to Jake: You fell for the con. Just about any black (or white) person writing honestly about America’s black/white experience is going to be called “controversial” by someone, and if he/she is at all sympathetic to the plight of black people in America, the right is going to label them “radical.”
There would have been nothing wrong with Harvard Professor Derrick Bell visiting the Obama White House, or the Bush or Clinton White Houses. What we have to worry about is when the occupant is afraid to meet with them and the mainstream media reports the visit as “controversial” merely because the right in this country is still deeply mired in race baiting.

Jake Tapper = Putz!
Shakespeare didn’t write the plays and sonnets. They were written by someone else with the same name.
Tapper “got conned” is hilarious.
Of course, my name is Jaango, and I have three birthdates since I live in parallel universes. In one, I am a musician, another, I’m a dipshit, and in the third, I am small business owner, an inconsequential writer and Obama is my favorite “Democratic Conservative.”
Now, can I borrow Tapper’s unused barf bag.
When Tapper went mainstream, there was hope for him. Today, he’s intentionally practicing incomprehension and doing a bad job at ‘that.’

My late husband actually had 2 birthdays. His biological one was in October. But when he went to enlist in U.S. military to fight in WWII, he lied about his age by 5 months, putting down his birthday as being in May. (Jewish, family left Germany after Krystallnacht, wanted to get back to fight those Nazi sons-of-bitches.) His mother went batshit and marched down to enlistment center in high dudgeon. Enlistment officer looked at her calmly and said: Mrs. C, I’d be happy to go thru all the red tape and undue the enlistment. But you know he’ll just be here in October & enlist then.
Ever after that his official USG birthdate was in May. It was the one I had to use to get his SS for our son, who was 5 when his father died, for example.
In the family, we celebrated the October date.
undo, not undue
Quite frankly, I am much more alarmed by the over 80% approval rating for President Obama by the African American community than I am by race baiting from the Andrew Bretibart crowd. The racists will continue living in that realm unless an individual has an epiphany for some reason. But, how can we take the African American community seriously in the future regarding civil rights issues or their economic plight when at a time that they could be vocal about what is happening, the majority approves of bailouts to banks without consequences, increased economic inequality with tax cuts for the wealthiest, felony convictions for those who protest anywhere near a “national event”, mandates to purchase private health insurance, and a presidents “right” to assassinate whomever he deems as a “terrorist”? After all, that is what they approve when they approve of this president. Where is the million man march now?
That’s nothing: I’ve got three belly buttons. Beat that, why dontcha. But this November 6 birth date I find very troubling. You see, my dear older sister’s birth date is also November 6 and I’m now wondering if she might be adopted from a some radical black family. Very troubling . . . /s
Jake Tapper is only a good reporter on odd-numbered days, when we cheer him for challenging Jay Carney about President Obama’s lauding of journalism abroad while he cracks down on whistleblowers domestically. On even-numbered days, he’s back in the Disney pen, acting like this.
It’s frustrating, because we get lulled on the odd-numbered days and expect he might act right on Even-numbered days. No such luck.
eCAHNomics.
My “slow salute” to you and your family.

Too bad they didn’t care about “the visitors log” when W was in office.
The answer is really simple. It is all in the labeling. If we let reality rule, the Heritage Society and the Cato Institute would be identified as propaganda agencies of the oligarchy. They are 21 Century “Ministries of Enlightenment and Propaganda,” sans armbands.
