Just for argument’s sake let us accept that Romney was right and that 47% of Americans will always vote against the Republicans because, as “dependent” parasites, they cannot take responsibility for their “own lives”… In other words, they need old age pensions, medical care, good public schools and universities etc. This means that, probably totally unbeknownst to themselves, they are what is known in most other developed countries as “Social Democrats”.
What we have learned then in 2012, following the Romney analysis, is how easy it is to turn 47% into 50.6%.
What progressives need to learn is how they can turn 47% into a 60%, that is to say, an absolute majority.
Perhaps the economy and the interrelated complexity of the modern world will do the job by itself.

Actually, the final totals keep making this task easier by the hour. We’re up to 51.6% or so now. And, good gravy, is there someplace still counting? Anyway, the old song about ” What’s So Funny About Peace, Love, Regulated Markets, Environmentalism and Understanding? ” by 60% ( Of The Electorate ) is the answer to our country’s future. Or not. Which would be feudalism as an option.
No matter how far to the right we go, we can still win elections as long as the other guys nominate somebody worse.

What fucking difference will it make if the outcome is to elect right-wing, corporatist, market-fundamentalist, militarist scumbags like Obama and the rest of the Dim-o-crap leadership?
Well, there’s that left-right political model again. It completely misses the point that Obama and the Democratic Party just represent one part of the top-most part of the pyramid of political power.

The funny thing is, it would be easy to get 60 percent of the vote. All that would be needed is to run like liberals and then govern like liberals. But that won’t happen with this bunch of Democrats. There just not that into it.
