This one speaks for itself. From the Huffington Post we have Republican officials assuring that they and their daughters have reproductive freedom and health care options they would deny everyone else:
The Republican National Committee’s health insurance plan covers elective abortion – a procedure the party’s own platform calls “a fundamental assault on innocent human life.”
Federal Election Commission Records show the RNC purchases its insurance from Cigna. Two sales agents for the company said that the RNC’s policy covers elective abortion …
Wonders never cease …

Thanks sfriendly. That’s well worth knowing, but not at all surprising.
Does it cover elective abortions? “The policy does not cover abortions unless the life of the mother is in danger,” the NRCC spokeswoman said.
I’m not going to take either the headline or the spokeswoman’s words at face value.
It’s sales agents from Cigna being quoted …
“It’s sales agents from Cigna being quoted …”
Sales agents from Cigna say yes, NRCC spokeswoman says no: I say it would have been good journalism for Politco to learn and report the truth instead of leaving us with conflicting statements (note: politico.com. not huffingtonpost.com).
“A spokeswoman for the National Republican Congressional Committee – the campaign arm for the House Republicans – said it does not include coverage for elective abortions in its employee insurance policy.
‘The policy does not cover abortions unless the life of the mother is in danger,’ the NRCC spokeswoman said.”
Maybe it will wake up the religious right that The Republicans have just been using them, and don’t really support what they want.
Someone else linked to Bob Altemeyer’s book on-line today….
This isn’t actually all that bad a case of double standards for them. I think a more representative one is that most pro-life women have had abortions or whatever the statistic is. Altemeyer basically says that the mind of an authoritarian is much more compartmentalised and they find it hard to make connections like that. But I think they would have no problem spotting the contradiction in others, just not in themselves.
If you ask these women (pro-life women who have abortions and remain pro-life) about the apparent contradiction their answer is something along the lines of, “Well it’s different. I had to have an abortion but those sluts are just wanting to kill their baby.” So I would say the double standard is embraced as part of the loyalty in group / out group think.
The same phenomenum is apparent in progressives too.
For example when I ask feminists why men should not have the same right a woman has to choose if they are ready to become a parent, (instead of the government making that decision for them) they usually say “The man had a choice; he could have worn a condom”.
They don’t appear to realise that this “should have used a condom” answer is exactly what pro-life people say about women. I point it out to them and then that’s as far as the conversation goes as they froth at the mouth and call me names. Not all of course. About 10 per cent think about it and say it is only fair for the same rules to apply to men too.
So progressives are a little better but generally they have that same inability to process connections and the same inability remains even after the connection is pointed out. It’s the same in group / out group double standard, but if it is quite consciously pursued.
as a pro-life progressive woman who has never had an abortion, i find your comment most insulting. do you come here just to insult and enflame?
On the day a man can carry a pregnancy to term, you’ll have a point. But until you can break water, your argument won’t hold water.
The saddest part of this is that the RNC is discontinuing the abortion coverage. The tyranny of this small majority of religious types when it comes to reproductive freedom – which is not just a moral issue, but is an economic issue as well – is really bad. It’s just not clear why such a technologically modern country is still anchored in the past culturally.
but wait, there’s more :D
link
bet it’s too late and FRC has already scrubbed theirs
Great catch! There has got to be way more where that came from…
from Concerned Women for America’s website:
sure would like to know who this provider is – any guesses as to what they cover ?
