in a shocking and tragic development, actress natasha richardson has died from an apparent head injury sustained on a skiing trip. latimes:
natasha richardson, the luminous british actress from one of the world’s great acting families, whose performances ranged from the highbrow drama "the handmaid’s tale" to the lightweight comedy "the parent trap" and the tony-winning broadway production of "cabaret," died wednesday. she was 45…richardson suffered a devastating brain injury in a skiing accident monday at mont tremblant, a luxury resort in canada. the actress was taking a lesson on a beginner’s run near the bottom of the ski area and was not wearing a helmet in what first appeared to be a minor accident.she initially reported that she was well, but soon started to complain of a headache. hours after the fall, the star of a number of acclaimed stage plays — including roles in "anna christie," "a streetcar named desire" and "closer" — slipped into unconsciousness, and she was transported tuesday from a montreal hospital back to new york, where she was surrounded by family and friends.
natasha richardson was always a delight to watch onscreen, and came from a long line of amazingly talented show biz royalty in england. her father tony richardson was the famous director/producer (tom jones, a taste of honey), and everyone knows her mother vanessa redgrave.tho she never was the star in her movies, ms. richardson was always a supporting actor that could be counted on, and often stole the show from those she was supporting (see: maid in america, the parent trap). onstage, she won both the tony award and drama desk award for her performance as sally bowles in the sam mendes production of cabaret.natasha richardson was married to liam nisson, and they had two little sons. we offer our heartfelt condolences to the family. the world is a little darker tonite. rip natasha richardson, taken from us far too soon.

Peace to Natasha and all who loved her.
Indeed, “the world is a little darker tonite”, heartbreaking news.
grace and dignity is what i always thought wherever i saw her.
rip natasha, and peace to her family.
I remember her as Violet Hunter in The Adventure of the Copper Beeches, with the late Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes. Luminescent is an understatement.
i loved her,as an avid skiier,im just shocked, that she sustained sucha horrible injury while lesson on a really flat run, they need to check for ice, etc,if little kids learn there, jeebus, what a horrible ,horrible fate…RIPshinning star
This is so sad.
I hoped it was all an exaggeration. This stinks.
Oy, thanks Skippy, she was a lovely lady and I had quite a case of the hots for her until I found out she married Liam.
My condolences.
Such a sad thing to happen.
Why the paucity of information about the actual accident? It sounds like she was offed, for whatever reason. I don’t know what activism she and Neeson might have been involved with, or what her gig was, but it could be a distraction of some sort. One doesn’t ordinarily die from a crash on a bunny hill…makes zero sense!!
I’ve known of two other people with similar injuries – one survived but with permanent short-term memory loss and the other died the same way Natasha did.
All one has to do is hit the head just right to cause a small sever in a blood vessel, which won’t be apparent to emergency folks. As the sever becomes larger (she said she didn’t feel well an hour later), the vessel ruptures, putting the victim into coma through brain bleed.
My father, the one who did NOT survive, went out 10 years ago on about the same timeline as Natasha. It’s an easy way to go for the victim, but all the family can do is stand around and watch helplessly as their loved one leaves them.
There’s a shortage of information on the accident because there just wasn’t much to tell. She fell, and hit her head. The emergency folks didn’t let her just walk it off, but there was no evidence of critical injury (I daresay there wasn’t even any apparent blood from a wound).
RIP Natasha.
love and blessings to her sons and family.. So very sad :(
so tragic
Such a graceful and lovely person. I’m so sorry for her family – It’s quite a shock. Peace Natasha and family.
