The President is saying he wants $1.6 Trillion in revenue increases as part of any deal and supposedly told Progressives that he will not budge. However, do any of you Progressives understand that he has said he wants $4 trillion in total deficit savings and that his declaration of not budging is directed toward YOU and not the Republicans? Is it being grokked yet that he is already giving away a 1:1 ratio of spending cuts to tax increases? That means he wants $2.4 trillion in spending cuts. Why? Didn’t he win a mandate? At the very least, which such a close election, can’t a reasonable compromise be 52%-48% revenue increases to spending cuts to approximate the election results? Just some questions I’d like some of you to start asking.
Did You Catch That Preemptive Cave Yet?? |

Moving to the middle is still moving to the right, unless the conservatives are the ones moving, which I have not sensed a all since the election.
More from Sam Stein:

This is gonna be a clusterf**k.
Yeah, Obama is really going to get tough in his second-term.
“As he has in the past, Obama warned that he was prepared to swallow some bitter pills during the negotiations, including some that would agitate the base.”
Also, there was that “I’m not wedded to all the details of my plan” the other day.
Way to negotiate! Of course, he’s not really negotiating at all, just reminding his “base” that they shouldn’t expect anything.
I would feel comfortable in betting everything I’ve got in the bank (not a ton of dough, natch, but it means something to me) that this has escaped thew notice of O’s true believers. It’s only a week since the election, after all. And even when they are confronted with the truth, they’ll just chatter about centrist-y pragmaticalistism and not allowing the perfect to be the enemy of the good. By now we know exactly what to expect from this president and from his amen corner, too.
I caught the pre-emptive cave months ago. I have also noticed an opposition to “getting it” on the part of the Obama choir.
What’s the use of being right when no one is paying attention.
*setting snark beams to full snark*
So, what *is* the best way to fix peas- Anyone?
Amen corner, lol. That is exactly what they are. I’m going to start using that. It’s nice to have terms other than Obamabots. :)
Why should they? You have a president who is already acting like he lost. Just gave away 1:1 spending cuts to tax increases and didn’t even flinch. I just want to know how you sell that to people who right now have puffed up chests talking about the demographic demise of the Republican party and that they won a mandate with this election? Is he going to say that 51-52% isn’t a mandate (even though it is a majority) so we should give the Republicans the majority of what they want? How does that make any sense?
And as always I ask that Progressives finish Obama’s sentences for him since he always leaves off the ending. Such as “bitter pills for whom?” or “Grand Bargain for whom?” It’s the answers to those questions that tell you with whom you are really dealing.
I think I started using that one over at HuffPo a couple of years ago…whenever someone tried to discuss the president’s policies they’d start shrieking and namecalling, so I called them names back ;)
Sorry, but we all know how this plays.
Is anyone surprised by this? I mean he says it, has been saying it, and will keep saying it. What Fing surprise is there? It’s his bloody commission.
Bargain will ensue.
He will give away everything, because that’s what he really wants.
No matter who won the election, we still lose.
O’s just the more effective evil. Now when he’s selling away the future of many of us, “liberals” will cheer and applaud.
Clinton’s 2nd term brought us welfare “reform”, Glass Stegal, and he was planning to go after SS with his buddy Newt.
O’s second term will make that look like a pleasant memory.
Oh please don’t fuss your pretty head Dear…It makes sense to Obama & his elitists clique cuz they don’t give a damn about us,ordinary people.
10yrs from now he will be known as the greatest coward to ever sit in the WH or The greatest con ordinary Americans fell for…
He is a tragic figure either way folks.
Yes Clinton was an abysmal failure just as Obama will be.
The fact that you see Clinton when confronted by courageous journalists in interviews admitting that he was wrong to do this & he was misguided in backing legislation such as Glass-Stegal etc,etc demonstrates how much of a failure he was.
Almost all legislation this Clinton creep signed was harmful to ordinary Americans.
They can pretend all they want with the help of Corporate media how wonderful they are/were but deep inside their tortured soul there is no serenity.
I guess I could have been more clear with my late night comment. I agree with you that the right is not moving anywhere except farther right, so every time sorryO compromises he is also moving farther right. I didn’t suggest that the right had been or was going to be moving anywhere toward any compromise or centrist position.
I neither worked for nor did I vote for Broncobama. You are sort of shouting at someone who fully expected a preemptive cave and have attempted to point out that key, Obama featured MO to local D friends for over three years.
Oh no, not shouting at you at all. In my head, we are of like minds discussing this and I’m shouting in the 3rd person at the amen corner who will be quick to defend this debacle.
Thanks for clarify, I am not always so great at judging intentions.
Action, peace and resolve.
