Saving one animal will not change the world but it will change the world for that animal.
Namaste
Fairly quiet week at Chez Tigre.
Maste is on food watch. He didn’t eat Wednesday or Thursday so he was gonna make a trip to the vet if he didn’t eat Friday morning. Friday morning arrives and he’s on the dining table waiting to be fed and ate well. Ate yesterday. Didn’t want to eat this morning. Something’s goin’ on. Prolly be at the vet before the week’s over. Sita’s gonna have to go in for her annual next month. Sure would be nice not to start making weekly visits to the vet again.
I wonder if Janis knows Cooper was free lancing as a kitten.
It looks as if Igraine is no longer afraid of the camera. I’ve been trying to catch her in this position since I got this camera.

From a British Shorthair Cattery in Poland.

Lots of Scottish Fold kittehs out there.
I wanna talk to my lawyer.

I love my buddy the ferret.

I love the little heart in the pic.

The Story of No Moccasins

Drive by hello! Happy Caturday!
When I went to bed on Friday night, I heard Cahnstance meow in the kitchen, which is unusual, but she’s been meowing a little more as time goes on. Her voice is very soft. I fell asleep. I got up on Saturday morning, trundled into the kitchen, and there she was: stuck between the outside door and the storm door, where she had been all night. Talk about guilt inducing. I guess she must have tried to get out when I got the last armload of wood, I didn’t notice her, and she got trapped in between the 2 doors.
Hey Om!
Meow!
Awwww. How did she react to you the rest of the day?
Poor thing! Is she angry with you?
Poor sweetie! I’m sure she’ll find ways to make you pay for that.
So what might be the problem with Maste? Any ideas?
Hey, just in time to say hi to all! Usually everybody’s gone by the time I get here.
Nope, not a clue. No vomiting, no diarrhea, no visible symptoms. He may just have a case of the blahs. Kittehs get ‘em too.
Hi, Ann.
OT: What’s the material for Tuesday’s Marx discussion? I need to find time to do the homework before the discussion… Any possibility you could post the assignment in advance of the post?
Hard to tell. She seems to be getting more clingy. Rubs against my ankles more often, wants me to pet her before she starts eating.
I kinda made up for it last night. It was windy yesterday & last night and the house is not well insulated. When I got up during the night for a pit stop, I went into the kitchen to add some wood to the stove, found Cahnstance’s dish was empty, so gave her some dry food, which she chowed down on.
I’m chomping at the bit for the discussion. I haven’t been this excited about ideas since college!
Tuesday we finish Session 1, parts 3-6. The assignment will then be the entirety of Session 2. I think it will go better if we do whole sessions, but we’ll play it by ear. I don’t have a problem with spending more than 1 week on one Session. The remainder of Session 1 is essentially Marx’s preparing to write Vol 1 of Capital. Session 2 gets into the nitty gritty of the surplus value discussion.
I’d have to go back and look but I coulda sworn I said that we’d finish Session 1 this Tuesday.
I too am looking forward to Tuesday.
This old Marxist “knew” that someday Marx would rule.
5 cats at this house. :)
Heh, you gotz room for lotz more kittehs.
Good morning, caturdenizens! So good to see you all, and all the adorable kitteh pictures. Didja notice the gatonovela is a series? I’m going back to that one. Looove the kitteh massaging his buddy.
Love the kitteh with his ferret buddy…omygawd, the most adorable pictures here in the post, too.
OmAli! Are you home? We’ve missed you!
SD, did you get my email yesterday of the kitteh poses?
I’m going out in a little bit to a lecture on recent Mexican archeological discoveries, at the Museum of Art. So, can’t stay here too long, but had to stop in.
How’s everybody and their kittehs?
Oh. I must have misread and thought last week’s assignment was session 1 and 2 . I’m waaaay ahead, then. Heh.
So here’s the link to “The 25 Most Awkward Cat Sleeping Poses.” Most of these are familiar (which doesn’t mean they aren’t still pretty funny), but I’ve never seen the Sunbather before…kitteh with paws behind his head, while lying supine. Love the full situp, the double bed, and especially, the Dog Bed. All of it, actually.
Gotta credit BuzzFeed and my cousin-in-law, who posted it on her wall.
There’s a pleasant surprise, huh?
No, no email from you in either box.
And for yer next magick trick you’ll give us the link. LOL
Hey, Ann! I know the feeling. so proud of myself for being up so “early!” Good to see you.
SD and cat friends,
Brought the critter carrier in from the garage. I now see one kitty tail sticking out from under the footstool. She can’t see me so I’ll leave her there until we finish lunch and go for a visit.
She does get some special treats when we get back home and has not held the car ride/visiting against me yet.
Well, phooey. I didn’t send it directly, used an email link at buzzfeed. Guess it didn’t work. Of course, I had to type in your addy, so I coulda goofed; but I did proofread it twice.
Oh, well, it was just to send the link to the poses (what would you call Igraine’s pose? she’s just as beautiful as you say, btw).
I sent you the link in order to forestall being the 3rd or 4th person to post it…but looks like I managed first!
I just finished reading Chaps 1 -3 of Capital Vol 2 and went to do Harvey’s 2nd class and I’ll be damned if class 3 isn’t already posted, covering Chaps 4 – 6. I’m waaaaay behind. lol
Ohmigawd…humiliated myself anyway. Sigh. Et voila!
http://www.buzzfeed.com/animals/awkward-cat-sleeping-positions
No kidding. Although I’m so hooked on the lectures I can barely wait to watch the next.
Oh, are you going to see her former person?
The 25 Most Awkward Cat Sleeping Poses
http://www.buzzfeed.com/animals/awkward-cat-sleeping-positions
Those are great tj.
She is gorgeous. And very happy looking.
They are hysterical and adorable, aren’t they? Something else to bring up on those bad-mood days…
If you’re following along with no problem go ahead and watch them. By doing so you can only add to the discussion. Then go to Wolff’s site, go to online courses and do the advanced course. Gives ya the basics on looking at capitalism from a different window is all.
what would you call Igraine’s pose?
Sloppy, undignified. LOL She’s usually sitting up more, so this must be her slouch sitting pose.
The clothes dryer wins the prize, heh.
That’s a good one. Hard to choose. Pretty much, every time I scrolled down to a new one, it was my fave, til I got to the next one. LOL.
Judging from the eyes, she’s got the glamour girrrl thing going on, IMO.
That’s the way I was. lol
Yes, but at age 96 we hope she is not former before we arrive.
I keep saying we are going to the senior center but I qualify for the local grocery senior discount in about a month.
Quick kitteh story, and then I’d better get moving. These lectures tend to fill up quick, so I want to arrive early.
When I opened the door this a.m., both Smoodgie and BigBoy crowded into the doorway. Smoodgie made it in, and Big Boy backed off. Then Squeaky squeezed past me, she and Smoodgie stared at each other, and Squeaky tapped her briefly with a paw. Smoodgie stood her ground. But when she went out again a few minutes later, Big Boy tried to come in, and Smoodge whacked him with both paws. one! two!
Poor girl. (It was cold again last night, 39 predicted low, so while we were hangng on the patio in late afternoon I dried and warmed her bed-cover towel. She seemed happy with it when she climbed back in shortly after I put it back on. I’ve been tucking food in the corner of the bed, and she seems to like that. Sometimes she eats it right away, sometimes later.)
Her poor ear is getting worse; I’d haul her off to the vet if I were sure I could afford the cost. And just getting her there would still be traumatic…could set back her calming down, I fear. (indoors, she will actually turn on her back and allow her chest to be scritched!)
Yeah, you know, we’re now divided into the old and the old-old.
(I would’ve said “former owner” but I don’t really think we own cats…)
Anyway, hope a good time is had by all at the visit.
(speaking of age, I had one of those stunning moments this week; picked up a paper for the weekender, and paging through to the comics, was floored on the obituary page to see a name and face familiar to me. I didn’t know him personally, but it was a very well-known and respected criminal defense lawyer…cause of death not given, but age was…almost exactly one year younger than I.
Yikes.)
Today I have periwinkles;
https://picasaweb.google.com/RCalvo8/GardenYard#5713510544656108130
Oooh, pretty.
Did you have the freeze last night? did the flowers survive?
Peaches are in bloom in the Hill Country, slightly early…making the growers scared of a frost that will destroy the whole crop.
Agriculture is still a crap shoot.
Jeez, I really gotta go. BBL.
Just wanted to say I loved Igraine’s pic, so glad you finally got to snap it! And that Scottish Fold kitty took my heart, it was so adorable. Gonna go watch the replay of Bill Maher’s Crazy Stupid Politics show that I somehow forgot to watch Thursday.
http://screen.yahoo.com/bill-maher-crazystupidpolitics-28422552.html
Later!
Wishing you the best if you get into the job I’ve seen that you have mentioned in your comments.
28 degrees, 46 knot winds, intermittent sun, then near white-out, short snow squalls this afternoon. First sure sign of spring in our area. ;^)
Weather report up thread a few and wishing everyone a nice afternoon. We are about to load up.
They are fine. I had almost freezing Friday night, covered my new baby parsley sprouts.
Pear tree;
https://picasaweb.google.com/RCalvo8/GardenYard#5713512986747433842
LOL. And thanks.
You need a honeybee hive to accompany your flowers.
My neighbors, who are my new BFF as of about a year ago, are going to work with me to put back together my herb garden and we will share it. I do have some of the uncontrollable herbs growing in places where they can spread to their hearts’ content. That includes catnip. Bees love the catnip & mints. And critters don’t eat the more flavorful herbs like mints, rosemary. I planted some in a critter prone spot while my herb garden was dug up last year (never got it put back together bc of all the rain), so I learned what they eat & what they don’t. The actual herb garden is up against the house and even before Cahnstance took over guard duty, critters didn’t get close enough to eat the more mildly flavored ones.
Hit one like that, some one I dated in HS, kept up with in college, very nice person, found in a dump in Delaware, murdered. Horrible shock.
There are farms very near here, and I do see bees around the trees, think I am contributing to honey somewhere in the neighborhood.
Be careful out there.
It’s not about the honey, it’s about the bees. The bees are so tied into nature, they are so life affirming.
If someone keeps (nonindustrial) hives near you, ask them if you can visit next time they do an inspection inside the hive. It’s the only way you can experience what I am talking about.
Sounds like fun, I will keep my ears open for a beekeeper.
Hello to all. I was on the road last week and out of touch. Not that anyone cares, but I missed reading and commenting.
I just wanted to mention the lifesaving qualities of animals. My mother told me this story. Years ago when I was away in the Army, the rest of the family was sleeping one night in the winter. At the time, we heated the house by burning coal in the furnace. We had two dogs and a cat. One of the dogs, he was a little more pushy than the other, came into my parents bedroom in the middle of the night, insisting that they get up. When my step-father woke up he realized that something was wrong with the banked fire and the house was filling with carbon monoxide gas. If the dog had not waked them, they would not have lived through the night. When people burned coal it was not common, but not unusual to die by inhaling too much CO. That dog provided many more stories; he was brilliant.
Dragon!
Look at them baby kittehs!
I am amazed. It is already 3:00 PM here in bear country and there are not even 75 comments. People must be sleeping in today. I know that I am really tired from all of the political goals driving the refusal to prosecute all of the criminals that are not controlling the govt and the eager prosecution of the “small” people who often are tried on nonexistent charges and jailed for years.
Interesting story. I thought CO had no odor, but perhaps that just applies to the human nose. Apparently so, according to google. http://www.google.com/search?q=can+dogs+smell+carbon+monoxide&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
It is certainly frustrating not to have an “edit” opportunity. My above comment should read “…all of the criminals that are controlling the govt….”
Is Cahnstance OK with the bees? The reason I’m asking is that one of my two kittehs (Maestro) decided he wanted to be a Bee-Biter when he was still a little baby kitteh. He got stung, went into anaphylactic shock and had to be rushed to the emergency vet. Had he not arrived there in time, we wouldn’t be having this conversation about the little dude – except, perhaps, as an obit.
And what a good little kitteh he’s turned out to be. More like a little doggie, actually. He follows me around and perches right in the middle of wherever I’m at. (Presumably, he knows I need supervision.) He’s not the Big Boss, however. That would be Diva. She runs the show around here…
Shoto, how terrifying!
Hello caturday. I haven’t decided if I’m staying around FDL after an especially egregious and personal attack on me was left standing by the moderators but I figure that shouldn’t apply to caturday. Still, I’m very, very ill just now and I don’t have a great deal to say.
Hope everybody has a better day of it.
Poor little guy was limp as a little noodle…and his normal, feisty self is as wiry as a coat-hanger. Very jumpy, springy little dude.
What happened?
Gotsta bail. BBL…
Hmmm. Well I would show you via link but it’s moot now. It seems the mods finally took the comments down. Suffice to say I was attacked for my gender and those comments were left up, even after I complained to the moderators.
Truthfully, I don’t think anybody thought about how he knew that there was a problem. It seems to be something that is not common, but not unusual. All that was important was that he woke up the family before it got too bad so the house could be aired out.
DW’s written a diary regarding it.
http://my.firedoglake.com/dwbartoo/2012/02/26/an-interim-piece/
Doesn’t get specific about what diary it was until he reveals it in the comments.
That was particularly nasty person.
Margaret, don’t go away. Your voice is a valuable contribution to the conversation on any thread in which you participate. (((Margaret)))
Been a number of like stories on the web lately.
Thanks for the vote but I left Americablog for similar reasons. I’ve got people standing in line to treat me like shit and let’s face it, if those comments were directed at one of our gay members, they would have come down immediately.
I know a dog who can’t resist biting bees. When he inevitably gets stung, he drools and froths at the mouth. Of course, that’s completely different than anaphylactic shock.
I didn’t get to the end of the thread to see what the egregious attacks were, but may I suggest that a diary asking the community what sorts of comments ought to be moderated might be helpful? There is a no ad hominem attack rule here, I thought, and I noticed another ad hominem attack on another thread that should have been removed as well.
I am glad to see the problem thread. I can’t believe that was allowed to continue and s/he was not banned. I hate to say it, but it seems that Jane is somewhat withdrawn from FDL. When she was more actively seen in writing analyses and making comments, the interchanges were more civil; YMMV on that. SD is much more active in policing his site. I know that we need to allow for a certain spread of what is civil, but that person was clearly out of bounds either through drugs/alcohol or faking it to hold off real censorship.
Don’t let the small people get at you like that. We need your voice around here. (Well…except for all that sciencey stuff. For example, everybody knows that climate change is a big hoax… ;-) )
I feel a kinship to the people around here. It’s like a family, really…a particularly well-informed one, at that. Further, all of us are pretty much on the same page, and in this day and hour, we need all hands on deck.
So don’t let the trolls get you down. (Easy for me to say, but I’m sure you understand where I’m coming from…)
Thanks for pointing that out.
I can only police the Diner. I’m at the mercy of the mods here and in their defense I don’t think they’d peep DW’s diary as much as they would others. His diaries don’t normally attract that behaviour.
Do you need to moderate much, though? Peeps who join Caturday and the Diner seem to enjoy getting along together.
Why is Caturday not in the ‘recommended’ list yet?
No. I’ve had 2 trolls at Caturday in that many years. The Diner I keep a better eye on but nothing serious so far. The Diner not being single topic driven isn’t such a rich target.
Who wants to come over and clean my apartment for me? Neko is being typically useless, at least until I get to making the bed.
Cuz people haven’t clicked the recommend link.
On edit: Belay that. We’re second from the top on the recommended list.
You can always put her under the broom and use her as a dust mop.
I left you a morning note at yesterday’s late late night when I read about the comments and was checking in to see if Suz was feeling better.
I would miss you in a serious way. You always send me on a trip to explore something or other than was outside my scope of learning prior to hearing it from you.
The other person’s comments were way over the top and IMHO deliberately abusive. Enough said by me.
Now it is on the list.
I guess that I just didn’t see it.
Margaret, Get better…see the doc if you need, too. Sorry you are sick. Take good care of yourself. B
Isn’t there a you tube of a cat riding on a roomba? Neko would probably hate that, though.
We’re back home safe and sound. I was hoping for a good snow, but not to be today. Up thread a bit on your prior comment, Margaret. Sitting in her former human’s lap for an hour and exploring a little (we sat in the chapel, got there right after the church service)and had the room to ourselves. Mcat sleeping on my toes at the moment. Travel wears her out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ-jv8g1YVI
I love this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vf9wHkkNGUU
Then there’s the single elimination ride
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTxW3GWZ5hI
That would potentially get more hair on the floor than off at this time of year.
LMAO! Yeah, she’d be much more likely to attack it than to ride it.
That’s so wonderful of you. Former two-legged must really look forward to and appreciate these visits.
SD, didja see that wikileaks has a huge announcement coming tomorrow with a presser at 12 pm GMT? That would be while the Diner is open. Will you check it out?
Oh god! That cat riding the roomba and swatting the dog was too funny! I can’t breathe well enough to laugh it turns out.
That is so sweet. I’ll bet Mcat appreciates it as much as her former two legged.
Kuroneko is playing her bitey/lickey the typey fingers game.
Three different people can down the hall as I sat with the carrier in my lap, (waiting for folks to file out of the chapel) and had thought I brought an accordion saying nobody had said there was entertainment today.
That’s great! Hahaha. The cat is using it like a chariot to intimidate as well as attack the dog.
LS from the Frontline Club. 4 am is too early for me.
http://www.livestream.com/frontlineclub
No, I hadn’t seen that yet. 12 GMT is 7am EST. Diner doesn’t go up until 7:45. I’ll be able to update and provide a link maybe.
I can’t afford to miss any more work but that being said, unless a minor miracle occurs, I’ll be attending the Diner tomorrow.
LMAO! It is an accordion. Haven’t you ever played a catpipe?
She tolerates it and is extremely well behaved. I’m so very proud of her. Totally silent on the way home, I let her out of the carrier to hop around the car a bit when we get home. Then open the car door and into the house for a big tablespoon of whole milk. It is only a 15 minute drive one way.
I should be able to add a link to the post. The vid should be up by then. Thanks for the heads up.
This is polka country and that was entertainment for these folks.
Tweets say Frontline Club is good about streaming their stuff, but not sure if there is a guarantee. Seems it is being billed as a mystery presser.
Both Sita and Feurae want to lay on the mouse and mouse pad, no matter where it is. I pull it out from under ‘em, move it over, they move right over with it. It’s a race to see who gets to the corner of the computer table first. Only room for one.
Well, it’s early enough that we’ll know before the Diner goes up and we won’t waste a lot of people’s time if it’s a dud. After almost 4 hours it should be easy to find, HuffPo, etc.
Omigod, not the prosecutor whose case is kinda famous in the region?
Wait, you don’t need to answer – famous or not, finding someone you know has met that sort of end is pretty terrible. So sorry for you.
Gracie was just under the house helping Mr. Install new insulation. Last week, Mr. Closed off an entrance that critters had been using to access the foundation area fron outside the house. So when I opened the door to let Gracie in the house a few minutes ago, she jetted in and went straight to the hole in the floor and hopped down. Then she complained loudly about his work.
Helllooo Cat People! Jumping right to the end so I can say…what a looovely afternoon I’ve had! Lecture was so interesting, then at reception after ran into a former co-worker (lawyer) now retired and chatted a bit, then stopped at fancy supermarket (it’s on the way, literally), and met a group of Girl Scouts packing up, but willing to sell me a few boxes of Thin Mints. Wheee!
The lecture was by the director of the Templo Mayor Project of the National Antrhopology & History Museum of Mexico City…he’s been working on it for decades, directing it since the nineties. Subject was “recent discoveries”. Presentation focused on a couple of major Aztec sculptures and their associated items.
I’m not a fan of PowerPoint, but this man used it very well. (Here’s his page: http://mesoweb.com/about/leonardo.html Aerial photographs of the locations where things were found – ang began with the best illustrations I’ve seen of the former Lake Texcoco, showing where Tenochtitlan and Tlatelolco were in the lake.
The biggest deal was a 13-ton deep relief sculpture of Tlaltecuhtli (see here: http://mesoweb.com/about/articles/AM104.pdf
who was a fairly typical aztec god/goddess. Sometimes generated plants for humans to eat, sometimes consumed the dead, usually the royal dead. (yeah, eww, but that is pretty much the reaction to most Aztec deities).
Dr. Lopez made it all very interesting. He speaks English fluently, with an accent, and his enthusiasm was catching.
Actually, made me wish I had majored in anthro/archeology after all. I nearly did…but was afraid I couldn’t manage the physical anthro courses because of the math and science components. But, oh, this was so exciting! Mexico will be making discoveries forever, because it’s all underneath the second biggest city in the Americas. Any time they dig for a subway or a new building foundation or any reason, they find something.
I am in such a good mood!
Aww. No sympathy for Mom’s misery?
Squeaky periodically chomps on one of my fingers. Usually not too hard, but she seems to want to test the tolerance limits.
Did I report that while indoors being petted early this week, Smoodgie licked my finger? I was so flattered. (we cat people are staff, aren’t we?)
Whew. That was a long post. Sorry if it’s too boring for Caturday…got a bit carried away.
Forgot to mention – got carried away by optimism at the market, and bought two packets of herb seeds. I’ll give it one more try, I guess. Maybe move the pots to the part of the back yard that gets a little more sun than the front…I so miss having herbs to clip when I want them.
They had catnip, but….do I need any MORE cats being attracted here? I think not.
LOL. How do you know she wasn’t expressing vocal approval?
Or did she used to use the opening herself, and complained about losing the access?
My ab muscles are soooooo sore and I doubt I’ve consumed 1,500 calories in the past two days. By the time I’m done coughing, I’m gonna have a six pack.
Far out. I’ve often daydreamed about being an archeologist. Way long before Indiana Jones btw. It’s so interesting.
You sick? I didn’t know that.
You mean the part about being “very, very ill” in my first comment today was too subtle? ;)
Yeah, got the flu. Ugly, nasty, dangerous stuff this year.
I get finger love bites alla time.
Shit, I saw that and it musta gone right over my head. *g*
That sucks.
Ding.
Well, of course, before Indy Jones. Pfft!
I took a year of basic Anthro in college, and was really tempted. Mostly my inherent laziness, I guess, and fear of the hard science part that was required for the major.
No doubt my youthful beauty has been preserved by not being out in the sun digging for three or four decades (that’s a joke!), but heck, smooth skin is a small price to pay for such fun!
Dr. Lopez described going to Paris for a project, and in the process discovering some unknown stuff (can’t remember details) in the archives, by chance.
I know that sounds boring to a lot of people, but honestly, I can remember thinking that spending a chunk of my life in the Archives of the Indies in Seville, deciphering 16th century manuscripts, would be a form of heaven…
I’d fantasize about finding unknown Maya codices (illustrated manuscripts) that escaped Bishop Landa’s auto-da-fe of all the ones he could find, along with their “idols.” He was ridding the Maya of all those works of the devil, you see, to save their souls.
Sigh.
Civilization, so-called, let alone religion, has so much to answer for…
Neko wants to be sympathetic but when she gets close to me, her hair sets me off again. At the risk of offering too much detail, the mucus that I’ve been dealing with is thicker and harder to bring up than any other flu I’ve had, including two bouts with pneumonia. If you happen to get the flu this year – everybody – be careful with it! I came very close to checking myself into the hospital yesterday because I couldn’t draw anything but the shallowest of breath. When I went out to buy an expectorant, I was unable to walk up my stairs without resting twice and when I did make it, I sat and panted for a full five minutes. Keep in mind that I don’t smoke and I work out for an hour daily. This shit is no joke.
Sadly – veteran of many, many coughing jags here – I’ve never known it work that way.
I did, however, lose several pounds during my recent bronchitis bout. The skirt I wore Tuesday, to the first scheduled interview, was downright baggy. I actually went to Ross Thurs. evening and bought a new suit ($59 for a Calvin Klein that actually fits! And looks more professional than a skirt that slides around all day).
Prolly won’t last, but I hear ya.
Have you got soup? Honey for the tea? I know, I already lectured you on that.
Seriously now, I have gas in the car. If you’re getting to weak to get what you need, please let me know.
She wanted her opening open again. She told Mr. all about it.
Wow (this is to your post about climbing your stairs yesterday). That’s pretty bad.
I don’t think what I had was flu, but I was so incapacitated, that I really lost some muscle strength, felt like a wobbly baby when I first went out to the store. Coming back, finally. Scary.
I wanted to be an archeologist when I was a kid.
Has anyone met Catfoodbreath? He has a web page, and this is from a recent tweet:
Soft kitty, warm kitty/ Little ball of fur/ Happy kitty, sleepy kitty /Purr, purr, purr
Haiku?
Catfoodbreath looks kinda like my Smokey, but somewhat plumper. I bet he wouldn’t want to climb a tree to the roof like Smokey.
Were the symptoms flu like? Cause I’m not sure this is flu either. My lower back started hurting first. Then I got the cough. Then the fever and the buzzed feeling. Then I lost my appetite. My back has stopped hurting and I feel sober again but the cough is still here and I still don’t wanna eat. I only do because they alternative is worse. Also it’s taking longer to kick than it should. Really weird.
Howard Carter and Louis Leakey fueled me. I still have some of Leakey’s first books.
Wow, that’s a sweet offer but Itchy Butt is within a stone’s throw and I feel better than I did yesterday. I really want/need to work tomorrow but unless something miraculous happens, I doubt it’s in the cards. If I’m not around for the Diner, you’ll know I’m either dead or better.
Gd Afternoon to all the cat people, and animal lovers of all kinds. Margaret, so sorry you are sick and have had a nasty troll to contend with as well. That latter sucks as much or more than the being sick part. Feel better soon!
I have been gone with Little Momma’s new digs for a while now, barely get a few lines off here and there.
This afternoon, after leaving LM’s, I went over to (un)Occupy where 4 of our people were arrested today. One man was hit by a police cat, then he was thrown down and arrested by the police. It was shameful.
Crap, not a police cat, a police car. The police have no cats.
Rap?
http://www.catfoodbreath.com/
Aztec and Mayan ruins give the heebeejeebees, though.
No. Sheldon Cooper.
Iz in yer policez, makkin arrestz.
That was a fabulous typo. LMAO.
No, I started coughing first; well, along with congested head. No lower back pain that I recall. Mild fever for a few days.
I could say…what a doctor told me when I asked why my second whiplash injury caused so much more damage…”you’re older now,” but then I’d have to duck, I guess.
Not so funny when you feel lousy.
fuckerz, they iz.
Yes. Really not funny, but as written…pretty damn funny. I got quite the mental image…
bgrothus – I’m sorry to hear about arrests and knockdowns. I would like to say I don’t understand it, but…well, you know.
Are you using an iPhone, and was that the infamous AutoCorrect?
I gotta admit, the websites for Damn You AutoCorrect are pretty funny.
I could not believe I made it, I saw it just as it posted. No editz.
But they can be catatonic and sail catamarans and eat catsup and help out in cataclysms and when they are old, some will get cataracts.
And it really made the post on-topic, too!
And another entry into the urban dictionary is born:
police cat
Okay, ysd, here’s a project for your lol captions.
Happy Caturday just a drive by. My daughter’s temp finally broke yesterday. It’s been a harrowing week. Hope to see everyone at the diner tomorrow. SD hope your kitteh is okay. I hope it is nothing serious. Sorry I haven’t followed the thread very close today.
Hey Margaret hope you feel better some nasty stuff going round. I read the thread in which you were attacked and I am sorry that people have to be that way. It’s a sad state of affairs when people have to resort to that sort of thing.
You must be feeling a little better…
Forgot to say up above…re the buzzed feeling…I did feel like my brain was not functioning properly through the worst of the bronchitis. Still not sure it is, but maybe that’s just the permanent status these days. But no, I really could not think clearly; it was just too hard. Even trying to read was very difficult, partly because my eyes hurt.
But, y’know, there are so many bugs out there, and people don’t always react exactly the same way to the same ones. Who knows, could be the same thing. It did last a good two weeks, with another week or so of aftereffects.
Ooh, yeah, seconded!
You’ll perhaps be surprised to learn that there is no Police Cat meme animal. Yes, I looked. Someone outta get bizzy on photoshop.
Hahaha. See downthread!!!
Yeah! Just that! It was tough to focus, optically and mentally.
So the (un)Occupy report is that the first to be arrested was a lawyer from Santa Fe, it is a legal strategery that will result in a lawsuit about the park, and two others went in solidarity. One person, the one hit by the car, was attacked by the police, and then arrested, and that whole thing will be on-line later.
I am sad to say that I have not been participating in the Marx seminars. I would like to do that at some point. Soon it will be necessary to have footnotes for the Diner.
Hou, popeye. Glad to hear the good news about daughter.
How’s Gracie?
You can go to my homepage and catch up at your leisure.
Don’t miss the Prof Wolff lectures. They are so fun to watch. Great, great lecturer!
Excellent, SD. This is the homepage for the Diner?
I never knew anything about Marx seminars. I miss a lot being employed but I prefer that to the alternative.
Well, we need a pitshure, too.
No, Marx is on MyFDL. Here’s my homepage. Marx will alternate with Caturday. Scroll down and you’ll see the first Marx in the Morning from last Tuesday. You too, Margaret.
http://my.firedoglake.com/southerndragon/
Ah, I hadn’t been to the webpage, or for that matter, on Twitter for awhile.
Thank you. I thought it didn’t quite make haiku, but I’m no expert.
Heh. We hear that!
Crossing my fingers that I’m approaching that exalted state…but afraid to jinx it by talking too much.
The eternal dilemma, enough time but no money, or enough money but no time.
I do it while I’m home for lunch and I’m in and out later for the late in the day people. See my comment to bg, too.
Good luck! At least the market around here seems to be improving…slowly.
I don’t have a link to your homepage
Never mind. Found it
The only quibble I have with Marxism is that I don’t know of any case where a government has practiced a form of it in which true equality was actually achieved. They’ve never really come close and always wind up with a privileged caste. Look at North Korea for example: The only fat people in that country are related to supreme leader’s family. I know true Marxism has never been adopted by anybody but it seems like one of those utopian pipe dreams to me. At least in practice, though I like the theory.
See my link below. That song, in the form that you transcribed, comes from The Big Bang Theory, (television program).
Hmmm. Kittehs seem to be suggesting it’s time for supper.
Smokey just came in…he leaped past me as I returned home. Let him stay…found him on the roof a little while ago, ignoring my calls. Ten minutes later he’s at the door.
Appears he’s worked up an appetite. BRB.
She is doing better at least she doesn’t howl anymore. *g*
It’s not about socialism/communism as a state. These lectures are about Marx’s critique and analysis of capitalism. The closest this comes to s/c is the workers controlling the company. Communism as we know it was based on Marx’s analysis of capitalism, Marx wasn’t all that interested in socialism or communism. Marx could have said that Lenin had done nothing because he didn’t change the structure of industrial production. His focus was on how capitalism worked and that’s what the lectures, etc are about.
I do find that interesting, and a different take from why people were reading Marx in my youth.
I’d like to join in, but I guess you were getting started about the time I was getting sick and finding it hard to read a post more than 2 paragraphs long. Let alone…
I suspect I’ve arrived at the dread time-for-new-glasses, too. Still hard to read, though better than a week ago.
And of course, Smoodgie should go to the vet – her ear is looking nasty. And the dentist would be nice, not to mention renewing my museum membership…
Sigh. Some gainful employment sure would be nice…
Maste’s eating as we speak but I’m gonna keep an eye on this guy. Somethin’ ain’t right.
Sin Patron. Yep, I understand. And again, I agree with the critiques on Capitalism. Just pointing out that Marxism’s track record isn’t very good either, at least on any national scale.
It’s easy to follow and it’s easy to understand. You might miss the comments live but you’ll learn the material. And there’s always the Diner late.
Neko had part of my steak sandwich, (I’m out of soup and it had to be cooked or thrown out), and that’s unusual. She almost never eats beef, I think because I won’t let her have it raw.
Neko does that from time to time. Just gets all funky and droopy. Then, just like that, she starts her crazy leaping and bounding again and her appetite returns.
Maybe Neko’s keeping you company in the food department.
Hope Maste’s okay, just having the blahs, like you said.
I had to reboot just now when Firefox froze up and wouldn’t respond. Elsewhere, I’m being advised to (choke) Give Up Resisting and go Chrome.
Sigh.
I went to the kitchen while the reboot went on, and Smoodgie saw me through the door window and headed over, so I let her in. We had quite a nice pet, interrupted a time or two by Big Boy whining from the other side of the door. I opened it, and he stuck his head in for a pet. Not so easy to pet two cats several inches apart AND hold the door open.
He’s turning into a sweetheart too. I’m just a fool for sweet kittehs.
Who isn’t? :)
But speaking of food…ugh! I still have no appetite and food is just revolting to me right now. It’s more a choice of what I think I can choke down rather than what I feel like eating at this time.
That expulsion of crap from my lungs and trachea has increased a lot in the past hour or so. I’m hoping it’s a good sign. I won’t be able to work tomorrow if I can’t sleep again tonight.
Getting it out is probably good. Are you taking a decongestant? Or do you have anything (like high bp) that contraindicates it?
Yeah, I bought an expectorant yesterday but I’m almost out again. I’ll have to remedy that no matter what I do tomorrow.
Well, I think I shall move to a comfy chair and read or something.
‘Puter too fragile to carry with me, so it’ll have to be an actual book. Or the newspaper…such as it is.
Hope everyone feels better, hooman and kitteh, and has a good week this week.
Tomorrow is another day—with luck, a better one!
Namaste, tejana
Thanks for bein’ here.
Be good to yourself
Looks like WikiLeaks is gonna do a major email dump.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/26/wikileaks-stratfor-emails-published_n_1302821.html
Later tj.
Yeah, I heard that earlier. And there will be outrage…OUTRAGE from the White House over this serious security breach and yada, yada, yada…
Fuck ‘em.
Ooo! I TOUCHED the sacred kitteh flesh! Presumptuous human!
Herbal tea with honey, as per tejanarusa, a jewel among SA residents.
Wow! Even Mr. Fiscal Conservative Supply Side is ripping into Newtie, Frothy and Willard over them blaming Obama for gas prices. It’s hilarious when he basically tells Allen West to stfu his whining about how much it costs to fill his tank when he drives a (fake) Hummer.
If I was gonna spend that kinda money for something like that I’d want one of these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M3_Half-track
Scary, but I can actually see you driving that thing…
it’s got that huge steering wheel that lets you know you’re driving something substantial. LOL
Are M3s even still available? And imagine trying to get tracks for it!
I’d like an old Citroen (can’t make the character from this damn (iPad!!!) so I could take the doors off and haul goats and chickens.
I imagine you could get one from a collector. Or the Army may still have some packed in pieces in Cosmoline that you’d have to put together. Seen a couple of Jeeps like that. Brand spankin’ new, 40-50 years later.
Turn signals would still work. Loved those little arms that came out of the frame.
You don’t need the steering wheel to tell you! Shit, the horrified looks from other drivers as they veer into the ditch ought to tell you that, LOL,
LMAO! In the airframes shop on board the Carl Vinson, we had a bunch of HTs come through and start measuring and looking at blueprints. I asked what they were looking for and they told me a steam leak. Later they came back with a cutting torch and started cutting through the forward bulkhead, (the hatch faced aft). As soon as they got a hole cut through the bulkhead, steam and water started leaking into the airframe shop. We all went in and there it was! An entire compartment that was supposed to be part of the airframe shop with a lathe, sheet metal brake, drill press, mill, storage bins and lockers, all brand new and still wrapped in cosmoline! There was supposed to be a knee-knocker in the bulkhead but somebody forgot to put it in during construction.
I remember that name from Stephen King’s “Salem’s Lot”. The protagonist drove one but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen one.
Ummmm, what is Cosmoline? I’m imagining it as the Mother of Handiwrap.
It’s a preservative. Kinda like brown vaseline
I remember them looking like the prehistoric version of the Volkswagon. Larger, and a little more angular. I saw a Swedish farmer hauling a calf in one.
It’s like a combination of varnish and axle grease.
http://www.ehow.com/how_5142137_remove-cosmoline-gun.html
I’ll just excuse myself and barf a little, now!!
Oh, that’s a relief, lol!
It was a grease that all military metal parts were covered with to prevent rusting.
The DS is the one most people are familiar with, and the 2CV from the movies.
The DS was a hell of a car in the mountains in Europe. Really cool ride.
Was that a joke? Surely,,,
It was really kinda stupid actually. We always had a “rob bird” in the hanger that was down for major repair and in the meanwhile, we would take parts off it for other airplanes. The exposed metal parts had to be preserved with cosmoline and brown craft paper though and every 90 days, somebody had to go out there, strip off the perfectly good brown paper, clean off the undisturbed cosmoline and then re-apply it all. Soooo glad when I was no longer the junior person in WC 120!
But you had to boil or steam it off?
Oh, okay. I’ve seen those.
We used MEK, (Methylethylkeytone)
After that shit’s been on something for a long time there’s a varnish-like layer on whatever it is. A real bitch to get off. Lotta elbow grease and solvent. Got a .50cal packed in Cosmoline once. JHFC on a crutch.
Maybe a small sniff of that would cut through the gunk in your throat and chest.
Are you feeling any better?
Usually a solvent of some sort. That was just to show you what the stuff was.
I was overcome with MEK fumes once in fact. I was inside an engine cavity, replacing some hydraulic lines that were high time and an AME came along and without checking the bird, he started spraying MEK into the ECS fans! It took about two breaths of that and I got way dizzy and literally had to crawl out of the cavity, then I had to sit and breathe for a bit. Kim was horrified by what he’d done. Imagine a safety guy making such a bonehead mistake.
*grin*
I guess you really must use something like that, as BC said, to prevent rust. Just reminded me of Ricky Santorum, is all :)
I gotta call it a day, pups.
Thanks for bein’ here.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
Thanks for the caturday. Namaste back!
That coulda been really bad…
I imagine it’s way too late for a preservative for Ricky’s dicky. To hear him talk that thing atrophied and fell off a long time ago. Can you say eunuch?
Night, everyone. Margaret, I hope you are better soon.
Ohmmm
Yep. It happens all the time though. He shoulda seen my feet and I probably should have used a placard informing people I was on the bird. On the other hand, maintenance control told me that nobody else would be on it. WC 130C shoulda asked maintenance if anyone was on it too. Teeny mistakes by three people coulda killed me.
Thanks. I’m a bit skeptical that I’ll be able to work tomorrow but I’m going to pretend that I will be able to for now. Night all.
Just listened to the Story of No Moccasins. I always enjoy your links to Marshall’s recordings, SD.
