Saving one animal will not change the world but it will change the world for that animal.
Namaste.
A quiet week at Chez Tigre. We did have a small incident with Maste this week. Thursday he was in and out of the box and crying constantly as he was when he was constipated. I’m thinkin’, not again or is he having urinary problems this time. Picked him up and his peer is working but there’s this clump of dried feces stuck in the hair around his butt. Is this keeping him from poopin’? Dug at the clump and when I finally got it off a nice little colliewobble fell out onto the table. Problem solved. The switch to Iams hairball formula must have given them softer stools and he sat on one, flattened it out and it dried there. It’s always something.

Double Dutch, anyone?

Ever tickle a clouded leopard cub?

Afternoon, pups, or mornin’ for you West Coast cat people.
Hahaha. This post borders on TMI. Did you ever think you’d take such interest in the excrement of a cat before you got chosen by one?
Heh, never. Certainly never envisioned this kind of hands-on stuff.
I sure like the coon hound and kitty photo. He looks the dude in Best of Show. ;o)
But I really stopped by to ask if any of you know how Jane and Katy are doing. Any news?
(sending them my best thoughts and prayers)
Hi SD! I barely have the time to hang around FDL much these days, but I do try to read the posts and keep up a little with the goings on.
I am distressed that Suz is giving up her cat and maybe dog due to her extreme circumstances, it is really too much.
No news here as far as the kittehs. Everyone doing well. You are really tempting me with the little muffins above.
My fave lolcat picture this week:

Speaking of cat and toilet habits. . .
Haven’t heard a thing, wendy. I have to assume no news is good news.
Happy Caturday to all, and SD, whatever sins you have committed in the past have been expiated by posting Henri Deux.
OMG. That’s a smart kitteh. Abner would never catch on to the concept of the flush.
Man, oh, man, that’s a lotta sins. LOL
Ever hear the story behind the video? Seems their water bill was skyrocketing and they couldn’t figure it out until one of them was home during the day once and caught Gizmo red handed.
Lol. The white coated idiot writhes around on the floor begging for cheeseburgers.
Srsly? Iz in yer watr tank jakkin up yer billz.
I know! I just burst out laughing at that!
Thank all the forces of the universe that not one of my kittehs has learned that trick.
Miss Sissy has the proper disdain of Henri Deux. There should be thousands of little films like that one, very good. Disdain and antics, what else are they good for?
I’ve got to go for now. You guys have fun and I’ll see you later:)
Later, Om.
I must have been anticipating Caturday in my sleep last night. I dreamed about mejdool dates stuffed with slightly sweetened chevre. I saw dates sold in bulk at the restaurant supply store and thought of you last week, SD. They were good quality kind, too.
Love dates. Just bought some in bulk from my whole foods store. Eat ‘em like candy. Good popcorn substitute.
A cautionary tale from Kuroneko and myself this week. I had just filled the mop bucket and plopped it down on the floor when ‘Neko began demanding attention. She jumped up on the counter and started meowing at me so I scratched her ears a bit. She did her whole stretching thing and she flopped down like she does when she’s enjoying a good scratching. I began to walk away from her to begin mopping the floor and she kept stretching to stay under my hand. She lost her balance and spent a second or two scrabbling on the counter directly over the mop bucket. I managed to get back and get a hand under her butt to keep her from falling off the counter and into the mop water. I don’t use especially harsh cleaners but that wouldn’t have been pretty. Cats don’t always have situational awareness so we have to look out for accidents that we might be the cause of.
Only much, much higher calorie.
Oh, man. Imagine your bloody arms if you had to bathe her after the humiliation of a fall into the mop bucket. Lucky save, for you as much as her.
You’re right and Neko would not have liked the bath to get all the chemicals off her.
Owe ya one.
And I’m fresh out of A+ blood…
It would have been extremely difficult to chase her down after such a fall and almost impossible to do it before she licked herself. All of this crossed my mind. I’m going to look for some alternatives that might be just a little less toxic.
Seventh Generation makes non-toxic cleaners. They’re what I use. They take a little more elbow grease but I can live with that.
I remember when we were talking about that at a Caturday a long while back. Dates and slightly sweetened chevre was from a recipe you had found, I think. That sounds so good.
Could it have been last July? That long ago? I remember having had lunch in Minneapolis and it was chevre, glazed nuts, apple slices…can’t remember what else, but we were all on a goat cheese kick.
I just use vinegar and water on both the wood and the tile floors. I think is is supposed to be a cup of vinegar per gallon of water, but I just eyeball it and I’m sure I put in more vinegar than that. Really works well and the vinegar smell goes away as soon as the floor dries.
I use vinegar too. Gallon jug is el cheapo. It’s good for getting rid of mineral buildup on stuff. Water here is full of minerals.
Oh, no! I hadn’t heard that! I was afraid to ask about Bailey, the cat, because she’s so nearly feral and independent, but can’t imagine her having to give up Token. Terrible. I wish there were something I could do to help her.
Was it that long ago? Jeeze. Yeah, my fambly won’t touch goat cheese, so I have to dream about it. I keep wondering how I’ve raised picky eaters. They got it from their Dad, not me!
I don’t “know” Suzanne’s cats. I don’t suppose one of us Caturday folks could adopt? I’d prolly be the first candidate being on the west coast, but my son has asthma and is already allergic to Abner and Gracie.
I know Bailey is a really independent cat – she comes and goes through a cat flap. Suzanne was joking at first that Bailey’s happier now than when Suzanne was around, with a neighbor making sure she has food and water, but no hoomans to bug her.
Bailey’s the only cat. But Token, the little dog, who is Suzanne’s avatar, is absolutely beloved; she got him at a bad time in her life, I think, and loves him to pieces. It would be terrible if she had to give up Token.
She has had to have the cat, Bailey, and the dog, Token, fostered during her absence. The people who have been taking care of Bailey are planning to continue her care, but it has to be devastating for Suz. She is having to move because her landlord is moving into her place in May, and because it has stairs up, she can’t even go into the place to pack up, so her family is doing it all. Her plants, some of which she has cared for for 10 years are dead. Token is still with caretakers, and she is afraid she won’t find a place where the dog can stay and that is also accessible for wheelchair. I know her financial situation is affected by all of this. The ordeal with her leg/ankle has been endless, painful and debilitating not just physically. I feel so bad for her.
Just skimmed thru last night’s LLN with Suze hosting…she says there that Bailey Cat has already been adopted by the person who’s been taking care of her while Suzanne has been gone. So that’s good; I don’t think Suze was attached to her like she is to Token.
Also says Token’s caretakers love him a lot and are willing to take him; would be better than many of the alternatives…they are caring for him for free now, after the first paid time period passed, they refused to accept payment, given what had happened.
Not so bad for Token, but not good for Suzanne. I feel for her. Wish I owned some property in Portland on the ground floor that I could rent to her and Token.
I’m starting to wish I owned a place myself because of having to conform to landlord’s rules.
Token is a little Welsh Terrier, isn’t he?
Wow, what a sad situation.
Oh, good. Bailey has adopted a new hooman already. Typical self-interested cat.
She’s a strong gal but there’s only so much one can take.
Oh, I forgot to add this vid to the post.
Rufus
The newsletter from Big Cat Rescue sez that he’ll have to stay at the sanctuary, encephalitis.
Well, in Bailey’s defense, she was feral, and according to Suzanne, not so very domesticated.
Speaking of ferals, on Friday my landlord gave me the word (along with a rent increase); no more feeding outdoors or “bedding” on the patio after June 1. I said fine, but am worried.
Yesterday when the yard crew came and began mowing the front yard, Smoodgie was asleep on a chair on the patio. I thought maybe we could use the opportunity, and brought her in (carried her, actually) to the kitchen. As long as I petted her, she was semi-calm, but the second Ilet go of her she started scrabbling at the door and crying. Finally I let her go. Never did see her for dinner.
She turned up about an hour ago while I was in the laundry room, and looked like she might come inside on her own…but, nope. so I took the laptop out (I have wi-fi now!)and sat beside her. Then a car pulled into the carport and she took off instantly.
I’m really afraid she won’t make the transition to confinement indoors. And then there’s Big Boy…who acts like he’s considering coming in, too, but whom Smoodgie does not like…she’ll smack him when he gets in the way of her petting or food.
Like SD said, there’s always something. And of course, Smoodgie has been nowhere to be seen when I’ve come home from work early enough to get her to the vet….so her ear is still terrible. Tomorrow’s payday, so I hope to be able to take off early at least one afternooon and maybe hunt her down in the neighborhood. Maybe they can give us tranquilizers for the first few days indoors?
You *know* Smoodgie can smell the vet vibe on you, that’s why she’s never around when you can take her in. I really hope you can convince her to to be a pampered indoor kitteh.
If they want to get out they’ll get out. Yours manage at times, hmmmm? *g* Different strategy maybe – work her into an indoor/outdoor first then work on indoor later. Get her to eat main meals indoors first part, maybe moving her food closer in stages every few days. They’re real big on routine, doncha know. *g*
Oh, yeah, I know. She ate indoors the other night; does sometimes.
Speaking of my guys getting out…two leaped over my head, spiting the babygate I had put in place, while I was trying to lure Smoodgie in awhile ago. Two are still out. Pushy came in when the car arrived that scared Smoodgie off.
Sigh.
that reminds me…that “Henri II” was posted by one of my friends’ friends on FB, so naturally, I put it up myself. It’s gotten more likes and re-posts than anything else in awhile. *g*
LOL
Henri II is really well done.
I’ll bet he has that “Gallic shrug” down pat.
SD and all good late morning like maybe noon. Welcome to the Club of Cats Derriere Division…you earned your stripes, wear them proudly and don’t forget to wash before supper. I wrote a poem in honor of Caterday hope you don’t mind me putting it here
Cat Hockey
kitty cats
are all that
make you laugh
and sneeze sometimes
can’t help but love them
they train you well, I’m
forever in their spell
like a dog they wait
for me to skate inside the door
to play a game of kitty hockey
the puck a plastic seal
from a milk carton
purposely batted under the chair..the goal
with all the other stuff she stole
so every night I lift that chair
my back is sore
she doesn’t care
just wants the goods from her kleptomaniacal
wanderings whilst I sleep
stealing this or that
my eye drops, a pen
or medicine..
at least I know where to look
for all the things she took
*standing and clapping delightedly!*
Very nice, thank you.
What OmAli said!
I have corralled all my regular kittehs – went out to get the laundry, and they were all on the patio, as was Smoodgie. Smokey, of all kittehs, was settling down on the bed in the corner that BigBoy used once! So I’ve just brought it indoors for him, to see if that will compensate him for being back inside.
I do remember findng him on it in the fall when he was outside for awhile.
I let them stay so long today because it was supposed be thunderstorming by now…it looked about to start when they fled, so I figured they’d be back soon on their own. But now the sun’s out and the clouds are scattering, so I rounded ‘em up…shaking the treat bag. heh.
This was just posted on my FB page. Heh.
And Smokey is settling in on the coffee table/cedar chest, not on the bed I brought in from outside.
Yep. Got one in the closet. LOL
Caturday!
so true.
That just takes me to your lolcat builder, which is your fave?
I loved the Double Dutch dog, my mom was a double dutcher as a kid but couldn’t get it to catch on with us. Back in the early days of MTV, I remember a great double dutch video (not double dutch bus which I also like) but I never found that vid online anywhere.
That dog is awesome.
Sigh. I’ve goofed off for an hour or two, better accomplish some tasks before it’s too late. Still no thunderstorms. *g*
One more story: You know how we’re all always muttering that our cats will kill us one day, the way they weave in and out of our feet while we’re walking? BigBoy..the feral cat! darn near accomplished it last week. Who’dve thunk it’d be the boy who was so shy he had to turn around and back to allow himself to be petted? He just kept moving in front of me, practically glued to my feet, as I came down the two steps to the patio carrying the scoop full of cat food…started to fall over, barely righted myself with a couple flat-footed steps, and scattered the food over the whole patio. While BigBoy looked up at me with that innocent expression….
Sheesh. It was the day after yoga…I was grateful we had worked on balance poses. Thinking of Suzanne, too…gotta do more work on balance if I’m gonna live with cats.
Oh, and Smokey, btw, has changed positions several times, now dozing on the desk beside me. Heh. He likes me after all. ;)
Here I am again…just got a message from Suzanne – she’s sounding philosophical, but I think we all need to pray or meditate or cast spells or whatever we believe in that she can find a good place to live that’s cheap enough and safe and will allow Token to live with her.
Yikes, it really is serious. When I had hurt my foot, not b/c of Angela, but mostly to avoid her, I explained that part of the accident
to the Podiatrist….She got quite serious about how many/often pets are the cause of the injury. I had not really fallen, but hurt myself avoiding falling on the cat….I really had not known that little factoid about pets as the “cause”…and you can’t even sue them….
Oh, if I only had a dollar for all the times…
Yep. And let us not forget, the whole drama with Suze started with her daughter falling over her dog…
Yep….and Angela didn’t even offer…or apologize….
How about this one:
http://cheezburger.com/6113585408
Some day I shall learn how to link properly.
No! It’s part of your charm :)
Love the cheezkitteh.
Popeye, if you are out there, scritches for Gracie and a hug for you *g*
In and out..thank you to all. My thoughts to Suzanne include the best of outcomes. RevDeb..we can sue them but they would just yawn and yea yea yea us..just keep the bowl filled.
or..we can always call Angelo from back in the day in Detroit and take em for a short ride….ha ha. I always use the; I can always return you to the adoption center…same response yea yea yea….just keep the bowl filled.
sunny day in nocal…woot!! All the ferals in the neighborhood are following one pregnant cat through the backyard. I have a cage now to catch and neuter them.
Ugh. I don’t know how I manage to mess it up every time I link. It’s not like it’s hard to do or anything. I just can’t seem to get it right consistently.
Yeah, yeah, yeah…and we don’t even complain…Seems to work, doesn’t it?
Yer a local in No. Cal? Where are you? I’m in West Marin.
Good thoughts to Suze!
A bird attacked Phoebe’s nest this afternoon and we lost Mary Jo and Woody, who were due to fledge this coming week. From Phoebe’s FB page, posted by the host:
“Phoebe’s nest was attacked by a large bird today. Nest and chicks are nowhere to be found. Very sad, but Phoebe is moving on. She’s already starting repairs on the other nests.”
Oh, terrible news. Nature is unforgiving sometimes.
Wow. What a day. Tornadoes, birds attacking baby birds, etc., etc.
Just saw that Occupy Oakland voted to shut down the Golden Gate Bridge on Mayday. IIRC ActUp did that years ago and it backfired badly. I don’t mean to concern troll, but…
Last thing ya wanna do is backup all those workers who use the bridge. Bad idea.
The news was from @anonyops, not Occupy, so I’m hoping the tweet was wrong. Not. Smart.
Yep. Because it’s not going to inconvenience the one percent at all. Just the working folk.
It’s not like they don’t have a precedent to look at. If it backfired on ActUp what makes them think this time will be different?
Margaret, that’s the truth. Sadly, the 1% are mostly out of our reach.
The only way we can really touch them is through congress, and that’s not going to happen.
Hope msmolly’s performance went well.
Do you think that bird ate the chicks? I know squirrels will eat baby birds. Nothing kind or gentle about mother nature.
Goodnight, cat people. Thank you, SD. See you all in the a/m, I hope.
Dunno. Camera’s back on what’s left of nest. Either bird had knocked it or it dropped down from the branch being shaken so violently. All you see is the 2x 4 camera is attached to. Don’t see the actual attack, the camera had dropped down by that time. Remains of nest hard to look at.
Time for me to call it a day.
Thanks for visiting, everybody.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things
Namaste
Thanks for another caturday. Hope everybody has a great week.
Good night, dear Dragon of the South.
Night, cat peoples.
Nite all.
Thank you, SD; waiting is.
Oh, I should be asleep, but since I’m not, I must report that Pushy is now sleeping peacefully in the bed-brought-in-from-outside-for-Smokey, so Smokey is sitting wistfully inn front of him, as if he wants it for himself now.
They are hilarious.
