Saving one animal will not change the world but it will change the world for that animal.

A quiet, uneventful week at Chez Tigre. Nice.

Tropical storm in the Gulf so I’m just hangin’ out at home. Was going to PetSmart but think I’ll hold off until tomorrow.
They’d better find a better place for da bunny when this cub gets older.
The dog did it.

Is Flavio the world’s oldest tiger?
Hmmmm

Mornin’, firekittehs. Gonna make a dash for PetSmart while there’s a break in the rain.
While the big cat daddy’s away. . .
GM, SD and all Caturday folk. Another hot day, wendydavis’ fire still raging in CO. We have fires here too.
Last week I was working on my deadline, work in gallery now and happy for that.
Quiet week with the kittehs. Not sure if I sent condolences for the budgie, SD, but I know your house has a quiet now. Hope the rain does not cause damage.
Well, that was an adventure. The things I do for these animules.
Kuroneko story of the week is that, very oddly, she woke me up several times in the wee hours Friday morning. After getting up and trying to find out if there was something I should know about, another time to feed her to see if that would shut her up and a couple of other times, I think she must have woken me up 4 or 5 times. Really unusual for her to bug me when I’m sleeping. So yesterday, while she was having a peaceful snooze in her spot, I woke her up several times to rub her belly, (which she hates), and I slept like a baby all last night.
Yeah, looks like your whole state’s getting hammered.
Caturday started bright and early today!
Picture of backear.

Beware of earthquakes or volcanic eruptions.
In San Antonio? Not since the Permian at least.
I’m just hoping that Dan’l is OK out in the rain. He ‘escaped’ from my residence in Ruskin a couple of weeks after I came up here to NH to deal with my sister’s stuff. I get reports that he has been hanging around under the trailer but he has always been skittish when he gets out (He has run away from me when he’s been outside but I’ve managed to herd him toward the door by circling around.
I miss my little buddy, that’s for sure.
LOL. I’m a bit surprised that you were able to communicate that way. . .I’m afraid my cats would not have taken the hint. I really don’t know how I got cats who NEVER interrupt my sleep. Even if I go back to sleep or hang out after I wake up when they KNOW I am awake and are waiting for their breakfast, they wait for me to get my ass in gear. It is very odd.
I forget my story of the week. I was going over with the vittles to the feral colony last week, and I saw a woman and two young boys trying to harvest little plums from a tree by the sidewalk. They asked me what I was doing, and I told them, “We feed some cats here.” I could tell by how they looked at me that they were really hungry. So I ran back to my house and got all the cans of food in my cupboard and gave it to them. They were so grateful. One of the boys immediately opened a pop-top can of pineapple and started drinking the juice. It was intense.
They said their house had burned, they were staying with their grandmother. I am going to try to hook them up with some services and get donations from the neighborhood for things they need.
Beware tsunamis and avalanches, too.
Good on you.
How scary. Having Abner outside past 9 pm scares me.
You are a saint, bg. That is very intense.
Whoa, my timing couldn’t have been much better. I can barely see across the street it’s rainin’ so hard. Opened the screen door to the porch in case any of the TNRs wanna get out of the weather.
Yeah, havin’ one of mine out would have me climbin’ the walls.
G’Morning, all. Just had to say that 1st picture of the calico kitten in a basket if adorable. Makes you wish you could just grab her off the screen and play with her. Hope everyone and their pets are doing great.
If you’re interested in some news from AZ, you may remember the name Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Last night the news came on and it seems about 3,000-4,000 were out there protesting the “tent city” part of the county penal system. Indications were that some were out there in early afternoon heat of apx. 108 degree temps and the 10PM news said they would probably be there passed midnight. I hate it when the news reports, improperly, that tent city is where we hold prisoners who have been sentenced. It was pointed out to me that many of these prisoners haven’t been adjudicated yet. Apparently the activists were motivated by the “Papers, please.” aspects of 1070.
Damn shame that once we ridiculed other countries for jailing dissidents and holding political prisoners; now those things have become commonplace. The world, she is a’changin’.
What a sad story and what a wonderful individual you are,
I had no idea I was going to be gone so long when I came up here. As it is, I’m actually kind of surprised it took him two weeks to get out as there have been a couple of windows out and I’ve had to stay on top of things to keep him from getting out before.
My landlady’s daughter and a couple of other folks are supposed to be feeding him since the landlady is out of town. But I do worry about him, that’s for sure.
He’s showin’ up to be fed, isn’t he?
Mr. Is cracking the whip to start work on the house. Wonder if we’ll be seeing the emergency room again today? Shouldn’t jinx myself. bbl.
Um, hello Dragon, sorry about
that storm that’s named after me.
I almost am hesitant to speak, considering the rain I’ve wrought, but I found this picture for ya:

I promise you’ll smile.
That kitty looks PISSED!
LOL!!! I don’t think kitty wanted to be returned to the loving arms of mu mu wearing cat lady.
Seriously!
How’re ya hangin’?
I’m almost as relaxed as the animals here. You notice how They have the greatest outlook on life? It’s all all all about the nap. And, in between, the “slaves” feed and walk and play and cajole. And, then more nap.
Mu mu’s scare me too.
That is NOT a happy kitteh. Nice to see that s/he made it out.
Thank you for the compliments, everyone, but I am not a saint or any kinder than any of you who would have noticed those people on the street. It is common sense, it is what we all need to do to have any positive effect in our world.
It is only the things we do ourselves to improve the planet and all living things on it that will have any impact. My sister lives across town and needs help, but these people were in my neighborhood, and I could do something easily for them. I did not do it for any reason than those kids and their mother were hungry. It was terrible to see their eyes when I told them I was feeding cats.
Are you hearing much coverage? I heard something about could be trouble from Fla to TX. But nothing very specific. I have friends vacationing near you…they’ve already reported about cancelled flights. Stay safe…..
This was my Sunday…attention for my car. Had it cleaned/waxed; looks so nice. So old the wax may last longer than it does….I mustn’t think that way….;)
I’m listening to the Rays game in Phillie on the radio and I hear things like there’s now a tornado warning for the next hour. Other than that I’m not actively searching for info. All I could do in the worst case scenario is try to get ‘em all in the bathroom and hunker down.
I took Neko’s advice and took a nap too.
I’m told he is hanging around under the landlady’s trailer but runs off if someone tries to get close to him. I’m not real sure where they are putting his food since the landlady is in Indiana at the moment. There’s a shed they were using but it has been locked up since she’s gone.
Unfortunately, one of the neighbors has a big ol’ Tom that’s even bigger than Dan’l plus living there on the river, I know there are probably some gators around.
He has his claws and all, I just worry
Absolutely.
Got a roof leak ending up in the kitchen. Big drops, big pot. Damn.
Uh-Oh! Stay safe, SD.
Heidi is flying through the air after moths again. A few years back we had an episode where she crashed on a lamp and broke it. Isabella the Yorkie stands with one foot up like a pointer trying to decide if the cat wants to play or not. It’s a tough decision for the Yorkie cause if Heidi doesn’t want to play she will definitely let Isabella know. Spits, growls, and claws!
Damn is right. That’s gonna be a pain to get fixed. You rent, right?
Yep, It’ll get fixed. Got a good roofing company we work with.
They may be plenty busy….Stay safe….
I’m pretty good at emptyin’ pots.
Stay safe, SD and creatures. You got a lot of rain to catch in that pot.
What do the house tigers think about the water and noise?
Yikes! Well stay as safe as the storm allows you to.
“Abadoodle!”
*backear*
“Aaaaaabadoooodle!”
*fierce backear*
“Abner!”
*glares*. Whaddoyou want, hooman?
That’s good….you may need more than one….(Reminds me of the ol’ saying about a pot to p…in. Can’t tell you why I still think that’s so funny.;) Never know what will come in handy…Take care of the kids…
Afternoon, all. I have a sad today. Last Monday evening our little kitty, Cantos, got out. Usually he just hangs around the forsythia at the side of the house or walks out back. Monday night he did not come back. I was quite worried. One of our neighbors stopped that morning to tell us a cat had been hit by a car and wondered if it was ours. I knew without looking that it was. Cantos would have come home if he could. As far as we knew, he never crossed the street, but he did this time. Fortunately, young BearCountry chose to go the other way to catch his school bus.
Young BearCountry was blaming himself because the cat got out when he opened the garage door without checking on where the cats were. We have tried to convince him that the cat had gotten out before and this was no different. It could have happened another time if the cat got out. I think it is still in the back of his mind, but he seems to be dwelling less and less on it.
The other cat, Abrazos, misses his brother. They were pretty inseparable; they hugged, snuggled, wrestled, and ran through the house together. For a couple of days Abrazos looked out the door to see if his brother was finally coming in. He wants more attention now and calls to us more to see us. He is getting a little more used to it.
One thing that we are often told by VSP who are in the animal pundit world is not to anthropomorphize the animals. If you don’t do that at times, their actions become unexplainable. As young BearCountry says, “after all, people are animals too.”
It’s slacked off now. They’re all sacked out somewhere, with the exception of Mojo, who’s made it his task for today to bug the shit out of me.
Ohhh, man, that’s so sad. I’m so sorry.
So sorry to hear this.
Thanks. We tried to keep them in all the time, but they were very quick. Sometimes they would be in another room where we couldn’t see them and they would fly to the door before we could stop them. We got better at it, but obviously not perfect.
Abrazos hardly moves now when the door is opened. It is as if he understands that it is best if he stays in. He tries to play, but he is very subdued.
They had a meeting.
Thanks. It never gets easier to lose a furry, but each relationship is its own set of feelings.
I have tried to keep this in perspective for my son. If it hurts this much to lose a furry, imagine what it is like to lose a human relative. My son is a classmate of a boy whose mother was shot and killed for no known reason by someone that used to work part-time in the office where she was a secretary. Also, a teacher’s aide at his middle school was killed in an auto accident during the winter on a treacherous stretch of ice. These losses are almost unspeakable.
BIG TIME PISSED!
And big enough to get his message across. Did you check the size of those fangs?
Kuroneko has been playful today. She was in the living room with me, attacking my wiggly feet. Hard to believe she’s 5 with her small size and feisty attitude.
Enormous, yep!
*snort*
So sad. Sorry for you and his brother.
Thanks. I need to go do some errands now.
How awful. Not. Little bear’s. Fault. Poor kid loses his kitty and is blaming himself. Double sad.
Oh no! I’m so sorry about your kitty! I live in terror of maintenance people coming in here and being careless with the door. I’m so sorry (((BearCountry))).
Caturday!
This kitty’s doin’ it right

(((BearCountrys large and small)))
Bwahahaha. Smart kitty.
So sorry, BearCountry. Give your youngster and extra hug, too. Have you told him about Rainbow Bridge? Sometimes that can be comforting, at least to those who believe in an afterlife.
Thanks to all for the kind words. I shall pass them along to him.
Cute, very cute.
So sorry for your news, BearCountry and family. I have fast kittehs too, and sometimes there is no stopping them.
Hello, Caturdenizons! I see it’s a bit slow today…only 67 posts? I do hope the storm is leaving SD and his tribe dry and safe. Just checked weather.com, and it appears the storm has turned north, but that it’s such a broad storm it covers a huge area.
Bear Country, I am so sorry about your kitty, Cantos. I remember you telling about the two little brothers you adopted, and their names. Poor Abrazos, and poor little Bear Country. It’s hard enough, but worse if you feel responsible. And yes,of course, animals mourn when they lose a loved one. Poor little guy. Hope he does decide to stay indoors.
My Smokey spent most of the day out, including while I was away shopping. He was up on the roof and wouldn’t come in, so I left. He is one of the fast ones…has been known to leap right past me and halfway across the patio in one jump. Until a few minutes ago he was demanding to go back out, having eaten supper. For the moment, he’s quiet, washing his back over near the hallway. Since I know he heads for the roof, I worry about him less than I used to, and our yard is not just fenced but walled, which helps.
Fast ones? LOL. Don’t think I’ve ever met a slow one under 16. LOL
Oh, we have a pimp…
Huh?
Well that one didn’t last long.
Under your response to tejana there was a paragraph full of link to shop for shoes, bags, etc. It only lasted long enough for me to flag it and then write that one sentence though.
Ah, so. A spammer at Caturday? The nerve.
Right? Neko hates Spam.
Smart kitteh.
LOL, indeed. You’re right about that. I guess the only distinctive thing is whether they try to get out or not.
Glad to see you’re still connected..so power’s on, I guess.
I just went out and walked up the street calling Smoodgie. Haven’t seen her since breakfast. She came to the patio to wait (I slept late, as usual on Sunday), and came inside to eat a little bit, then went backout. I went out with her, and was crouched down stroking her back while she ate when the dogs came out from upstairs apt. She froze still for a minute or two, but then when they had already gone out the gate, she took off, at her usual high speed.
This week she has seemed up and date. Mostly I’ve found her on top of one pillar on the brick wall or another, reluctant to come down to eat, so I’ve taken her food and water. Most mornings, though, she comes to the door for breakfast on her own. I wonder if the heat of the day just wears her out. The 14-day antibiotic will be wearing off shortly, so we’ll see how she does then.
I’ll go out and look for her again shortly; usually when I do the calling-on-the-street walk, she turns up within half an hour or so.
Hah! I flagged it, asap, too. Wonder how many others did?
Dang, it’s summer, all right. Not only is it about 100 degrees still, there are bugs I haven’t been bothered with before. I stopped to check my newish plants on the front porch after for Smoodgie, and sure enough they were dry, so I watered them. Filled up the watering can with the hose, which had to be dragged in from the yard, so I walked across the yard some.
Now I have several new bites on foot and lower calf. Fairly big, like ones I’ve been getting the last few days. I’d almost think chiggers, the way they itch, but the grass is very short, dry, and not growing (or nonexistent). Had to put anti-itch ointment all over them just now or go crazy from the itching.
Sheesh.
I had hoped to swim today, the pools having opened last weekend at last, but…ironically…it was just too damn hot.
Yeah, we’re down to wind and a drizzle now and then. Dreary as shit. I’ve left the door to the back porch open so the TNRs can get out of the wind and rain.
Skeeters. Little ankle biting bastards.
I’m gonna call it a day. This weather makes me sleepy.
Thanks for stopping by, y’all.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things
Namaste
Yeah, that kinda weather makes me sleepy, too. Wonder if any of the tnr’s have come into the porch?
tejana, someone told me that worstershire (sp?) sauce will take the itch or burn out of bites. I have not tried it yet, on a couple of ant bites I got the other day.
Thanks. I hope your little Smoodgie shows up before you give up for the night.
Thanks, never tried that…don’t have any, since I rarely beef. I have some hydrocortisone cream; that worked. Y’know, I thought they felt like “skeeter” bites, but I haven’t seen any mosquitoes! Usually get those higher up than on my feet!
Bear Country, thank you for your wishes..and yes, I found her on the wall about an hour ago. She allowed me to lift her off the top of the wall pillar, but then jumped down and ran to another spot, where she climbed to the wall by way of a tree, instead of coming to the patio. Afraid she thinks when I pick her up that I’m going to take her to that terrifying place, the vet’s office.
Anyway, I took her food and water. As usual, she dove right into the food. I figure as long as she’s eating like that, she deserves to stay around and fight the infection/cancer. I’ll go get the water dish in a little bit. Can’t leave any dishes out for landlord to see (!), or for that matter, to get knocked off into the neighbor’s yard.
She should be all right through the night, and I’m sure I’ll see her for breakfast. It breaks my heart that her prognosis is so poor, but she’s still hanging in there. When she allows me to pet her, she seems happy, and purrs up a storm.
er, “I rarely beef” should be “I rarely eat beef.” Sigh. Sure miss edit.
Goodnight all. Thanks SD.
And as a footnote: when I went out for the water dish, sure enough, it was on the ground. At least it was on my side. And Smoodgie had moved to the pillar at the far end of the wall, the gate side against a corner of the house, where I guess she feels more secure for the night.
Then Big Boy showed up, wanting inside (!!), came in, and unlike his usual habit of staying a minute and then going back out, stayed and stayed and even lay down on the floor, ignoring my several openings of the door. But when he did go out…Smokey was ready: so, he’s outside now. Went straight to the garage apt stairs–underneath, where he figures I can’t get him.
Sigh.
Never a dull moment when living with house (or not) tigers.
Have a great week everybody.
And thanks again, SD.
