Dear former Senator Alan Simpson,
I just wanted to say hi, I’m one of those thousands that are not only drawing Social Security but I am also a Vietnam Veteran. I just wanted to say how sorry I am that I have not already died to help this country out of the fiscal crisis that your republican party put us in. I am truly sorry that my worth to the masters of all us little people is now over and I am doing nothing but sucking on a teat, albeit the hind teat. I do hope that my staying alive a few more years will not in anyway interfere with your being able to enjoy your later years in life, oh I forgot you don’t have to worry about Social Security or Veteran’s Benefits, you were one of the masters and you are rich.
Please resign from the Catfood Commission so that somebody with ethics, morals, a conscience and a soul can take your place.
Yours,
Wayne Beverly

Excellent letter, thanks so much for writing it. I wonder if Simpson will have the courtesy to respond. Although, if he does, I doubt he will give you the respect you deserve.
Thanks for your post and for emailing Catfood Commission co-chair Simpson.
You paid into the Social Security system, it’s your money; annoys the hell out of me that Simpson thinks it’s the other way around.
You served your country, and we owe you the care you earned in serving. Again, have no idea why Simpson thinks we don’t owe this debt, that we should welch when you didn’t.
It’s simply time to can the entire catfood commission if Simpson is only saying what they’re all talking about and thinking.
As phred says, Wayne Beverly, your letter is most excellent.
Perhaps you might send a copy to President Obama, for whom Simpson is but a proxy?
You might also suggest to President Obama, that persons such as yourself are the ones to properly decide the future of Social Security.
Clearly, we know what you stand for: that is, courage, honor, and responsibility toward others.
Thank you, Staff Sergeant Wayne Beverly, for what you have done and continue to do for this nation.

Thanks for posting, Wayne. Well said.
Thank you for your service and for taking a stand.
In the last 2 days I’ve gotten 3 emails from OFA. I’ve unsubscribed all 3 times and when asked why have left a variation of this.
” If the idea was to have a court jester near the White House, Alan Simpson just might fill the role nicely.
Consider his two most recent gaffes. After referring to the Social Security system as a “milk cow with 310 million tits”, he moved on to disabled veterans. Disabled veterans? Yes, really. He did.
Former Wyoming Sen. Alan Simpson’s comments came a day after The Associated Press reported that diabetes has become the most frequently compensated ailment among Vietnam veterans, even though decades of research has failed to find more than a possible link between the defoliant Agent Orange and diabetes.
“The irony (is) that the veterans who saved this country are now, in a way, not helping us to save the country in this fiscal mess,” said Simpson, an Army veteran who was once chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee.
So if I follow his line of thinking, what he is saying is that the veterans who fought in our wars and were poisoned by Agent Orange through no fault of their own are to blame for the deficit. “
The son of a Wyoming governor, Simpson was born with a silver spoon. He will never understand the needs of ordinary Americans.
If a President can be judged by the quality of those he/she appoints to offices, commissions, etc. then Obama is a miserable failure.
Boo hoo.
Get a grip. We have fiscal problem and your puling about benefits that won’t be cut isn’t helpful.
The truth, which may be a difficult concept for you, is cuts are coming for people 20, 30 years down the road.
You can keep sucking away. Don’t worry.
Simpson is a symptom of a much larger problem.
Your response is far more polite than the one I deleted before posting ; )
Great post!
To be tweeted and facebooked!
Maybe that rich bastard could remove his own mouth from the tit. He – with his generous government pension and benefits – sure sucks a whole lot more than my 81 year-old mom, who actually needs every penny to get by.
