Please watch this new No On Prop 8 ad. It’s a hard-hitting attack on the lies thrown at Californians for weeks by the Yes On 8 people. Their ads say, over and over, that unless Prop 8 passes, churches will be required to marry gays and schools will have to teach "about the gay lifestyle." Yes on 8 also claims that churches will lose their tax-exemption unless Prop 8 passes, another lie.
Calling these ads lies is important. California voters must understand that the same old lies are being presented to us. This is just another bunch of lies to divide us one from another. Only this time, they will take away rights unless Prop 8 is defeated.
Please support the No On Prop 8 campaign! Help stop the lies.

Thanks to everyone who can pitch in to No On Prop 8.
Also, please digg this post here.
done!
redditheads, upvote here
And if you aren’t a reddithead, Wassamatta U?
Thank you Teddy!
It’s a great ad, and one that ends with a message that reverberates in Republican psyches “Kept the government out of all our lives.”
reddit-ed!
Do you want a list or should we over it one by one?
Thanks for the updates Teddy. Dugg and recommended.
Everyone shoudl give to this important campaign.
ThZnks Teddy!
I called my folks in LA to make sure that they will get out to the polls and vote NO!
Thanks for that!
Reaching out to people you know and love in California is a great idea. Any other folks here with California kin or kith? Direct contact from someone you care about makes a big difference to folks — and please remind them that a NO vote on Prop 8 is a vote for marriage equality. A YES vote takes away our rights.
Thank you Teddy!
I too thought that tagline was an important reminder to folks.
If the government can tell us who we can love and marry, what’s next?
Teddy everyone I know is voting against such a stupid proposition as PROP8!! Just who do they think they are to use hate in such a way. I know of a certain Jewish fellow who would be appalled at what they are trying do in HIS name!! Last I knew he taught love and respect your fellow man/woman.
These idiots need to keep their morals in their own house and stop trying to change the California Constitution to suit their Religious wants and needs. There is supposed to be a thing called Separation of Church and State last I knew. If we let this pass the next thing you know they will try and tell you what religion IS the CORRECT one!! Oh and then they might just rule against a man woman marriage also just because they can! My ass force someone else to conform to YOUR beliefs… go back to the hole you crawled out of and pull the cover closed over your head!
Teddy my whole street is against this proposition!! And so are my kids and their spouses!
Hi Betsy!
how ya doing this eve?
What’s the polling sayin’ on 8?
43% of the Yes on 8 money comes from Mormons, the Mormons say. Only 3% of California is Mormon. They know, and are being told from Utah HQ, that this is the critical vote on marriage. If Californians allow marriage equality to stand, by voting NO on this hate amendment, the haters are done in the USA.
I believe this is their wedge for theocracy. They will not stop at stopping marriage equality.
What is the polling on this? Can’t Obama assuming that he is popular in California do a spot against prop 8?
Obama has to know that he is not going to EVER get the
30%er20%er vote he might as well do his base a favor.Teh gays will ban Snorg Tee ads if they win the wedding wars!
-G
SALT LAKE CITY — Leaders of a support group for gay and lesbian Mormons on Saturday criticized their church for its efforts to ban gay marriage in California.
I read an article about that and it seems that it is from out of state! The Mormons were wrong about polygamy and they are wrong on Gay marriage! How can you believe this Smith guy who says that Christ cam to him in the 1800’s?? Then he said it was good to have ten or twenty wives?? They are flat wrong about this!
The most recent polling, from Survey USA and from the No-On-Prop-8 folks, shows Prop 8 winning 47-43, a big switch in the last month. Young people are leading the way to Prop 8, which surprises me.
Many attribute the shift to this ad from Yes On 8
I hope there’s an ad on pointing out that a lot of out-state-money is coming into the 8 campaign. I know more than one conservative in this town whose hatred of carpet bagging easterners is (marginally) greater than their hatred of gays.
Thanks, Betsy!
Do you want to write that up as an Oxdown Diary?
If the Mormons want to get involved in politics lets tax them and the Fundy Protestant and Catholic churches we are at WAR as Bush likes to say many nations have taxed their churches during wars.
A church building 2 acres of land and $45,000 for upkeep of the property and salary for the preacher sounds good the rest should all be taxed!
This isn’t really about gays – this is about power and they want it all.
no, not really, but thanks. already keeping one blog afloat and doing occasional writing for two others. if i start publishing in a fourth place while holding down two jobs and trying to keep my kid from failing the 9th grade, i think i might just explode.
Honestly, folks check this out.
I was looking for Prop 8 info and came across this:
I am sick.
How is this Prop 8 Constitutional make no law regarding religion right?
Or has Scalia already spoken about how he wants to change this?
I’m not sure that some churches would be taxed and others not. Who would determine who could or couldn’t?
The Mormon’s Jesus is not the same Jesus other Christian churches worship.
Sorry ever church should be taxed. I however would enjoy the rightwing political churches getting taxed.
I’m also wondering if the No on 8 people shouldn’t point out that the courts already overturned the previous bill. There’s a reason we don’t look to voters for individual rights. Imagine if we waited for voters to give individuals Civil Rights.
Hi demi!
There are many churchs that do a lot of positive community work. If they were taxed, they’d close. Alot of people would lose help.
Again, who would determine which church is right wing?
That is absolutely horrendous!
Hello Loo.
What if Gay People did a Free Bristol Law that said only people who love each other and can pass a series of lie detector tests over 3 months can get married?
Also love involves self sacrifice as well as lust once lust is satisfied after the 1st year another round of lie detector tests asks do you think you and your partner are happy, faithful and making it?
If not divorce! Until you can prove that you are in love No More Lets stay Married because its a cheaper Tax Rate! Thats a Republican reason to stay married!
How about each church is taxed according to its ability to pay? It might stop people like Pat Robertson from becoming mega rich from people who are scared and ignorant.
Well, we don’t want that!
I will likely write it up for tomorrow at Oxdown then, I wanted to offer you the opportunity first. You sound very busy. Hope all’s well!
good but busy. on the other hand, the tutoring pays good money, and mostly cash, so we can still afford food, gas, and occasionally even the rent. but it feels like the rest of the country is now getting as poor as we’ve been for a while.
I’m up for that. Why anyone would give their money to a Rich Church is beyond my comprehension.
BTW – we did get a call today saying we might be evacuated and we should look around the house to determine what to take. Fortunately, we didn’t have to.
Wish there was a way to turn all the hatred from the right into usable energy – ta heck with nuclear or ‘clean’ coal, we could run the country on their bilious exhaust.
Hmmm All Churches should get taxed however some churches do very good work with the poor.
I think the rate of money that a charity spends on helping the poor is how we decide some charities I think return 97 cents for ever $1 spent directly to the poor.
Other Charities like Bill Frist’s Political Charity where all his top campaign workers had good paying jobs as they waited for the next political campaign hardly seem to spend anything on the poor?
Big air conditioned mega churches in the bubs could house the homeless but they sit empty.
I think the 97 cents on the $1 standard is good
Teddy, what do you think of my comment at 31?
So happy for you. Did they get the fire downed or did it just move some other place?
should read
sorry
Well, okay, but what about the churches who collect food and clothes to give to the poor? How do you determine the cost? Also, I’d be afraid that if it gets too wrapped up in red tape, the churches might not be able to keep up with the paperwork.
I don’t know.
Are you suggesting we heat our homes… with Hell Fire?
Wow. Didn’t realize you are that close to the fire.
It’s finally out, thank goodness.
Knew what you meant.
Red Tape is to be avoided but doesn’t Goodwill make a profit especially in this economy? More thought to avoid red tape is needed.
Hey, I coulda sworn I added a happy face to that! *g*
What fire?
Dunno about Goodwill and profit. Isn’t it non-profit?
Fire in the Little Tujunga Canyon, 3 miles from my house in the North East San Fernando Valley, North of Los Angeles. We’re okey dokey, now though. And, it’s a very good thing, because the winds have really whipped up this evening. Whew!
I know they charge money at the store cause I buy there. That and the Seattle news said that the local stores are running out of stuff because everyone is buying there and not enough people are giving to keep the stores in stock.
I can double check Monday.
Good your safe
I always thought they used the money charged for operation costs. If you see me here on Monday and you’ve checked that out, I’d be interested in what you’ve learned.
there are other organizations that donate the goods directly to the poor without charging them anything for it.
My bad Goodwill sells me stuff at their stores I don’t know if they charge for donations I wear my clothes out until they are full of holes.
Yup, I want to say to folks nowadays — Welcome to my world!
my point is that there are organizations that GIVE away the clothes instead of selling them. Many of my students get three free outfits per year at “operation school bell”.
Good point — I think the focus now is on “taking away rights” which seems unfair on its face.
We should actually ascribe very little validity to the earlier marriage initiative, which was passed during a hectic GOP primary in 2000 when there was no longer any Democratic party reason to turn out. But to many people, that’s ancient history.
Again my bad? “Operation school bell ” does sound more like what I had in mind for charities.
Umm, yeah. Things and I started this conversation by talking about churches which help the poor.
Oh my, glad you are okay!
I’m also wondering about groups working either for or against state initiatives getting dollars from out of state. That seems wrong to me.
it’s local. so is the organization that provides filled backpacks for refugees, homeless students, recently homeless students, and kids at-risk-for-homelessness.
Women’s shelters always need clothes, too, adults and children.
Last time I tried to get my kid to wear a dress shirt, he told me I should give it to some poor kid and let him wear his usual (black t-shirt with either a skull or the name of a band on it).
Thanks TP. My 20 year old son has really been following 8. Keeping me up on it. He’s fairly p’o’d about the Yes people raising so much money.
Sorry to hear that.
My boys don’t even mind wearing shirts from the thrift store. I’m just lucky, I guess.
this one is a tad spoiled i’m afraid. dad has money and only buys name brand stuff brand new.
It’s hard when they go back and forth.
Hopefully, as he matures, the really important issues will become apparent to him. Time will tell. Either way, he’ll have to live with what he decides.
I can’t bear to go upstairs and talk about George Bush. I think I’ll go read my Gore Vidal book.
This ad is great! I think this for a reason many might not know. LYING is a HUGE no-no in the Mormon church. Mormons take great pride in never telling lies. To finance ads that blatantly LIE is SO against their faith.
C’mon, Mormons — if you love your faith, why finance actions against it?
Excellent point, one I had completely missed.
Thank you.
Hey gang — would like some advice here. I live in the southern CA area and have seen almost no McCain/Palin signs and virtually no “yes on 8″ signs — not in LA, Malibu or Palm Springs areas.
Then, all of the sudden today — a house a mere TWO DOORS DOWN from me has one! Imagine my shock at finally seeing one and in my own neighborhood yet. There are many “no on 8″ signs in the area, and lots on cars.
I was tempted to yank it out of their yard in the middle of the night, but then again it is their right to display it. Should I march down to Dem HQ here and get a yard sign of my own? (already have one on my car).
Thanks!
I would advise not yanking out anybody’s signs; as you rightly say, it’s their yard and their right to display what they like. But certainly you want to get your own sign! Yard signs build a sense of community — that it’s okay to be outloud and proud about your support of Obama/Biden and your opposition to Prop 8.
My mom put up a sign in her very GOP neighborhood in Virginia, and two other neighbors have Obama/Biden signs up now! It’s amazing how emboldened others will feel by your sign.
