Grounding his appeal to United States Senators in his faith, 59-year-old Arkansan Frank Wood reminds them that "Jesus healed the sick and didn’t ask for money."
Frank Wood last saw a doctor in 2004, for a specific ailment, and has never had a physical exam. He came to the free health care today for two issues: a hernia that bothers him while at work and a skin condition. He was referred to a program for the uninsured that he was unaware of, which may be able to help him with his hernia; he also received a prescription he’ll take to Walgreens to fill for $50-60 to heal his skin condition. He budgets for this every-six-month expense and hopes he can get the skin cream soon.
Eve Gittelson asks what he’d tell the Senators debating whether to debate health care reform today if they were in the room with them in Little Rock. Frank Wood reaches deep into his personal faith when he answers: "I would tell them that Jesus healed the sick in the Bible, and he didn’t ask for money for it. It’s a human right to have health care, it’s not a privilege. I think that it’s small-minded to think that it’s a privilege. We have to have human compassion for one another."

Wouldn’t it have been great if Blanche Lincoln had the opportunity to hear directly from this working man of faith? His plain-spoken appeal is quite moving.
Not really. Blanche would’ve turned the other cheek and walked away, I’m sure. Can’t be bothered with trifles, ya know.

Good thing the Big Dog didn’t go there; he would have been politicized.
Yeah, what a douchenozzle. I guess the spotlight has to be on Bill or it’s not worth attending. Plus, money helps. I hope Olbermann tears him a new one on Monday, the subject didn’t come up when Lawrence hosted last night.
The KO show had probably already been taped when the info broke about Clinton. We’ll see what happens on Monday.
Countdown goes out live, I think, not taped. But I imagine if Keith got word of Clinton’s treachery, he asked that Lawrence O’Donnell leave it alone until his return to the program. I’m sure he’ll have something delicious to say. After all, it was due to the gracious generosity of Countdown viewers that these events happened at all. Keith raised more than $1.7 million for them. That’s not politicizing, that’s making them happen.
And now that it is underway, KO will have hours of tape to make his point.
I feel for this man, and his words ring true. But I doubt seriously that any politician really has much truck with what Jesus said. Long ago, they joined the ranks of the Pharisees and the money changers.
The Republicans would tell these people heal Yourself, or wait for Jesus, but don’t expect us to worry about You.
Why? Are we bitching about the DEMs and not plastering the Republicans faces all over net net reminding people of who they really are.
