Ft Hood servicemembers and their families are already subject to enough right-wing posturing and conclusion-jumping without having Caribou Barbie come and trash their Commander-in-Chief with her simple-minded parables and pablum.
Tell the Ft Hood Public Affairs Office that, as a taxpayer, you object to the already strained military base being used as a platform for such a divisive political figure as Sarah Palin. If HarperCollins wants a place for her to sign books, surely there are plenty of bookstores off-base in Killeen for her to use.
Let our Ft Hood heroes mourn their losses in peace without the further circus of Palinpalooza right on base.

eXcellent Teddy!
My resolution not to get involved with things Palin lasted about two days, but I forgive myself since this is for our patriotic troops. Ft Hood has been subjected to enough right-wing armchair analysis and conclusion-jumping; there’s no reason to have someone like Sarah Palin show up and trash the Commander-in-Chief.
And you know she would.
This is obviously just an opportunity to exploit a tragic event, into a platform for the sale of her book, and espouse a political agenda, designed to discredit the present administration. It’s singular purpose is to further the social, political and economic agenda of the far right.
Rather than deny her the opportunity to put her ignorance on display, restrict attendance to military personnel only, this would be appropriate since this is a military base.
Additionally why should she and her husband who was, and if not still a member, is at the very least a devotee of the Alaska Independence Party. http://www.akip.org/ a party that hates the American Flag and it’s institutions.
I wonder how Obama would have been accepted, had he been a member of an organization that hated the American Flag and advocated the secession of Chicago from the USA?
Rec’d and emailed. Thanks.
“But the bus parked nearby encouraged donations to her political action committee and supporters made clear that she should run for president.
Palin’s father, who greeted supporters as his daughter signed copies of the book, said in an interview that Obama’s handling of the military was “scary.”
“I see a decline in our might,” Chuck Heath said. “People used to be afraid of us and respect us, (but) they’re not afraid of us and don’t respect us anymore.”
Errr…did I mention it was illegal for folks to spew partisanship at this event on base/post around active military personnel? ”

Palin has competition in the not too aware of reality category.

Thanks Teddy. More hate speech will come out of her for sure
Some of the Alaska bloggers have been discussing the Ft. Hood invitation and the differences between that and the Ft. Bragg invitation, since late last week. Initially, my attitude was “Let her speak at Ft. Hood, but document the event and the crowds very, very well.”
But after her Ft. Bragg appearance, I’m not sure her potential “freedom of expression” at Hood trumps the violations of post policies and DOA rules she pulled off at Bragg.
As bluebutterfly notes above, Celtic Diva in Anchorage compiled a number of violations Palin and her team committed at the North Carolina fort.
What I was hoping might be documented at either or both fort appearances are examples of infiltration of the military by dominionists. We’ll see how that works out.
I’ve called the public affairs office at Ft. Hood this morning, to protest her appearance on post.
In fact I couldn’t see that there were any bookstores ON-BASE. But there are many in Killeen and Harker Hts.
Palin’s presence is not a non-political appearance as her book is very much about her campaign against the current C-in-C. She and her entourage essentially violated the stipulations of being granted base access already.
Even as a fundraiser for the victims of the Ft. Hood killings it would be better off-base. Why should those most affected by the murders be asked to contribute to a fund to help them? Shouldn’t she be doing this in most of the other places on her tour rather than in Ft. Hood-Killeen? It would be like holding a fundraiser for Katrina victims in the 9th Ward immediately after the hurricane.
Ed- Look up the fellow who was prominently quoted in most of the articles about Palin’s visit to Ft. Bragg, GR Quinn.
He’s a long-term extremist, birther, and the brother of Freeper Flora McDonald.

He apparent is the founder of some group called the “Article III Foundation” but I’m unable to find anything out about it.
As of 3:15 pm Pacific Time, messages to both email addresses bounced. Tried both twice to make sure. Either the addresses are incorrect or have been taken offline in response to feedback like Teddy suggested.
Just off the phone with Linda Kellen – Celtic Diva. She says that a commenter at Greta van Susterin’s blog has written that Palin has been “disinvited” from Ft. Hood. I’ll look for the comment – writing piece on this right now.
The e-mails and phone answering services at the Ft. Hood PAO (Public Affairs Officer) have crashed as of about noon Ft. Hood time.
Palin is heading to Richland WA on Franklin Graham’s Samaritans Purse airplane for Thanksgiving.
Thanks for the update, ET. Any way to find out who is paying for that tourbus with her lovely visage on the side? Surely HarperCollins didn’t spring for that expense. I do love that Billy Graham’s dollar donor to Samaritans Purse are footing the bill to fly her all over.
While I agree that Sarah Palin is a mental lightweight, I have to say that I resent the “Caribou Barbie” name calling. It’s a) completely unnecessary, b) demeaning of Palin in the wrong ways, c) culturally insulting, and d) if a figure like Nancy Pelosi had been widely called “Barbie” when running for office people in liberal/left media would have screamed bloody murder. It is rather hypocritical on the one hand to declare oneself a “feminist” who thinks women face demeaning and sexist responses to attempting to run for office, and then on other hand use culturally insulting and gender-demeaning names to address women in politics who don’t happen to have the political views we have ourselves.
It’s easy to take on Palin and win on the issues and on the merits of arguments, without having to denigrate her gender and her culturally identity too.
In response to the blog writing itself, I agree with the authors that military bases are filled with people who these days are facing stress and strain of all sorts. These are not appropriate venues for figures like Palin (or liberal/left politicos on the make either) to show up, and treat the servicemen as a political football.
Palin’s actions are sooooo obvious that the more she continues, the better it is for us in the future. Everything should be video taped for further use. She is like a comedienne and certainly makes a fool of herself. I say, “Bring it on!”
