Senator Barbara Boxer, touting the Nelson "compromise" abortion language and confronted with Planned Parenthood’s opposition to the bill, claims that "not all the choice groups oppose this bill." (2:34)
Senator Boxer’s "friends at Planned Parenthood" have been joined by NARAL/Pro-Choice America and the National Organization for Women (NOW) in opposing the Senate bill. I would very much like to know what ‘choice groups’ Barbara Boxer refers to in her statement in this video.
Which ‘choice groups’ do not oppose this bill, Senator?

I don’t really expect an answer, because I think she’s blowing smoke here.
Besides, she’s relied quite heavily on the endorsements and views of these three ‘choice groups’ in the past, especially in defending her campaigning for Joe Lieberman in 2006.
She’s referring to anti-choice groups, Mr. Partridge. They certainly support abortion restrictions.

Well, I suppose that could be what she means. But I’ve never heard the anti-choice groups called ‘choice groups,’ have you? They like to be called ‘pro-life’ and we call them ‘forced-birth proponents.’
But if Boxer is putting her oar in with the forced-birth proponents, we’d better know about it and fast. Because she’s up for election in 2010.

I don’t hear Senator Coburn saying I hope his car does not start tomorrow. He leaves it open as to how the vote won’t happen open to and including violence. Much like Glen Beck says we must stop immigrants.

California being so Democratic typically, I’d think the only chance of unseating her would be in a primary.
Ms. Boxer is using a Botox needle when she needs a rhetorical spear. This is not a tack that will help her with this legislation or to keep her job next Fall.
If she believes in the Senate version of this bill, she should say the unrelated trade-offs, the restrictions on all abortions imposed by ConservaDems in exchange for their votes, are worth it, but that she will act to protect all civil rights, including a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion.
Boxer may be running against Carly Fiorina next November. Being soft on abortion or other civil rights is not likely to help her get out the votes she will need to keep her public employment. Obama is so much water looking for a jug to give it shape. Boxer can’t afford to look that formless and expect to win in California.
Can we mount a primary? I am loathe to do anything that might help Crappy Carly, but I have already told Boxer that if this bill passes, she’s not getting my vote.
She should answer this question.
My beliefs do not include the Devil but I could be very easily convinced that Tom Coburn is his instrument nonetheless. The evil he did as W’s AIDS Czar is horrific; we have an epidemic in America among African-American women because of his neglect during his term.

I hear that Fiorina is using Boxer’s support of this amendment in an attack ad…Fiorina is also pro-choice and she is lobbying those groups to now support her. Even if some group of two or three ostensibly pro-choice women – somewhere – does not oppose the bill on these grounds, so what? Her assertion is ridiculous on its face. As in Sharkfu’s post below: The answer is NO.

She is using it to raise funds. I got an email recently from her touting her work. I just couldn’t remember a thing she had done to help, and asked what it was that she did to help us with anything. I have had no reply.
The senator’s from California are pretty much like Arnold. Since they have jobs, they only care about keeping them. They are not about to do anything to help anyone.

I sure hope so. Surely there’s a credible candidate to primary against her from the left? I mean, this is California! Every democrat who votes for this bill ought to be primaried. Boxer won’t get my vote if she votes for it (and I’ve told her so). I’m through with holding my nose and voting for lesser evils.
And OT — In California, every democrat in Sacramento who voted for the budget deal should be primaried.

Watch Barbara Boxer walk the streets of my hometown hand-in-hand with Joe Lieberman. We fought hard against the Boxers, Clintons to knock Joe off his pedestal in the primary, but the power structure that supported Joe in the primary was enough to give him the legitimacy to run against a real Democrat. So a few Dems split, and mostly Repubs voted Joe back in. Since then the monster has grown with the help of Barack Obama and Harry Reid.
Will they question their strategy or keep blaming progressives for wanting real reform. I won’t vote for this President again because he refuses to lead. I’m sick of people ascribing great leadership qualities to a President who refises to look back or forwards, only to the hollow victory he seeks now. Think they’re coming back to reconciliation for medicare? Keep dreaming loyalists.
@45 Thanks, Mod. I “de-lurked” recently via the “invitation” to other voices. I took that to mean that leftie people who supported Hillary in the primaries could be welcomed in too. Most of us never want to relive the hate thrown at women on numerous blogs because we did not support Obama.
Anyone who primaries a sitting Democrat in California winds up with about 131 votes statewide. That’s why we have Diane Feinstein.
She’s probably referring to the “choice groups” who believe that women have a right to choose between keeping their baby, giving it up for adoption, or dying during childbirth. You know, “choice groups” like Operation Rescue. /snark
