From the American Foundation for Equal Rights’ (plaintiffs) website, here is a preview of today’s planned expert witness testimony.
[Today] will continue with the testimony of, in no particular order: Dr. Edmund Egan, Chief Economist for the City and County of San Francisco, on the nature and magnitude of costs incurred by the City and County as a result of the denial of marriage to gays and lesbians; Dr. Ilan H. Meyer, Associate Professor of Clinical Sociomedical Sciences at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, who will testify about the stigma and prejudice gay and lesbians individuals face in society; and Helen Zia, a lesbian author who will testify about her sexual orientation, her experiences with discrimination, and the effects of being denied the right to marry her longtime partner.
Hope you will join us at The Seminal and Emptywheel for more liveblogging. Additionally, please see my post last night on the FDL front page for some ‘deep thoughts’ on the trial — random reflections thanks to my reliever, Marcy Wheeler, who allowed me to step back and think about what I’ve watched for three days.
Also! Check out the FDL Prop 8 hub for more about the trial, including video news clips, links to court documents, and live tweets from the courthouse all day from other attendees and observers.
Thank you for your continued generous support, without which this work would be impossible!

Your conviction and flying fingers gives strength and hope to us all Teddy! Keep up the excellent work =)
Will anybody be live blogging the Aafia Siddiqui case? They’re in jury selection this week with the trial scheduled to commence Jan 19.
Teddy, I went back & read your deeper thoughts. Very moving. I too, had a lump in my throat while reading about the treatment of gays, and I’m a senior straight woman.
hmmm.. Teddy, just read your deep thoughts and was struck by the idea that “supposedly” a large percentage of gay men don’t consider sex with another person outside of a committed relationship to be a problem.
I don’t recall seeing the percentage in the live blogging yesterday. And, I assume that the data presented was in regard to a couple knowing and approving of the “rules” they plan to live by in their committed relationship.
But, then again, maybe this attitude, which I was unaware of being as prevelant as the defendant claims, was why my ex thought it was perfectly acceptible behavior for him to be trolling (and supposedly only chatting) on gay social networking sites such as manhunt throughout our 5-year relationship without ever bothering to mention it to me. Especially since his profile didn’t mention the fact that he was only intending to chat and was in a relationship….. LOL
Hi! Just now created an account so that I could leave a comment of appreciation. I have been following the events of the past three days on FDL. You are doing a magnificent job, and you deserve every bit of praise.
Carry on, Teddy. I read your random thoughts and found myself teary *again* ~ your liveblogging made me teary and now I know why. You are a wonderful heartfelt writer, whatever the format.
((timncguy)) You can find jerks everywhere, unfortunately, pretending to be princes (and princesses). It seems to work for awhile too. It is pure bigotry, deceit, and projection for the defense to claim this only happens in homosexual relationships. Or, perhaps they mean to say it is only perverse when it is teh gays doing it. Gah.
Welcome suirauqa!
