Don’t you wonder who named the TEA citizenship-stripping bill, Joe Lieberman or his co-sponsor Scott Brown?
It sounds like Lieberman thinks the Department of State will know which Americans overseas are training in terror camps to attack us and can therefore be stripped of their citizenship and their right-to-return. I was unaware of Hillary Clinton’s clairvoyance in this regard, but I suppose I should have paid closer attention during the 2008 primary wars.
Stripping an apprehended suspect of citizenship rights will give "us" a choice, Lieberman says: try him in a federal Article III court (where the United States obtains one conviction after another) or try him in a military tribunal (where two of the three fellows tried are now free).
So, yay, citizenship-stripping! More work for American military commissions, which yield freed terrorists 2/3 of the time, as opposed to actual trials that put convicted terrorists underground in SuperMax federal prisons for life.
Whose side is Lieberman on, again?

This man is a danger to the Republic.
He is the first person I would want Hillary Clinton to identify as a terrorist-associator, based on his profoundly anti- and un-American views.
Not our side. Why do we let him in the caucus again?
Because that is where Barack Obama and Harry Reid want him?
– video fixed, surely one lap of Joe is enough! –
Holy Joe is on the same side he’s always been…his own.
Boxturtle (Can’t accuse him of flipflopping on that!)
And he is always on Joe’s side of the camera, too. This asinine proposal, as well as his alliance with Scott Brown, guarantees him Village swoonage.
Just absurd, our political discourse. Absolutely no commentary on the merits, it’s all about the appearance of this. And Joe plays them like a fiddle.

Tomorrow Belongs To Joe?
Does Lieberman even understand the principles on which our government is based? He seems to think it’s horrible that citizens in this country have rights. Not only does he want to strip them of their rights, he wants to do so based on suspicion!
Glenn Greenwald helpfully put up a link to that 1980 decision Lieberman mentions. If I read it correctly, the Senator is misrepresenting it.
Lieberman makes me sad to be a member of human race.
Zing! and Ouch!
Bugs the shit out of me too. When did these people get the idea they could just jack the constitution around at their whim? Fuck you, Joe!
I think he is a big player in the drug war.
Yes Joe, American citizenship comes with responsibilities….. such as steping AWAY from deh crazy.
In past, Joe has offered his speaking services to an organization who’s host says stuff like “God created Hitler to bring the Jews to Israel”. Pastor Hagee FTL on youtube. Lieberman To Speak At Hagee Summit.
I think Joe is trying to build up the crazy islamophobia vote.
It’s really sad and pathetic that the end of the US empire is dwindling down into teh crazeee… but I guess there are precedents for this, when one thinks of the wierdness and excesses of Alexander or the end of the Roman empire. If Hollywood is to be believed, the deranged constitution- hating Joe is mild by comparison. But it’s all relative. these days Ghengis Kahn is looking pretty enlightened by comparison to the nutty dysfunction of Team USA.
But Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the administration would take “a hard look” at the measure, the New York Times reported. “United States citizenship is a privilege,” she told the Times. “It is not a right.
