Appearing with Andrea Mitchell today, United States Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) says that further leakage may require more military involvement than the Coast Guard can provide. He also makes news: there are reports that oil is seeping up from the seabed due to the casing below the wellhead being pierced.
Mitchell rightly focuses on the real issue here: the relief well as currently aimed may not be low enough to capture the oil if it leaking from collapsed casing below the intercept point.
Bill Nelson also gets a chance to watch Haley Barbour talk about "tarbahls" and how they come to the beach every year. Nelson thinks Barbour is tempting Providence with his talk. Barbour reminds me of the tourism-happy mayor in "Jaws."

I sure hope Haley Barbour runs for Veep as Sarah Palin’s Dick Cheney is 2012. He is a caricature of his own self.

“Tar balls – what’s the big deal,” I mocked, and then he actually said “What’s the big deal?”

They keep bragging up old Thad Allen, when the boob has been a Mynah Bird for BP from the start.
This guy OK’ed the dispersants, and said we didn’t need more skimmers.
He’s the one that KO’ed the using super tankers to suck up the spill, and now says we need more skimmers.
He’s great at telling us what they can’t do, and then saying He is holding BP’s feet to the fire while all hell breaks loose.
What can we expect though? He is just another product of our Military where we think Admirals and Generals know it all. No matter how much they fuck up, and we see them fucking up, we still put our faith in them.
Yes! This man is the guy telling Obama where the bear shit in the buck wheat on the oil spill. No wonder the mess gets bigger while we are told they are doing everything they can.

Caught about 5 minutes of a repeat of the PBS series, WAR last night and an interview with a Gulf Coast resident who remembered from her childhood, “the beaches were black with oil,” after German U-boats sunk something like 600 tankers bound for Britain before they even got out of the Gulf of Mexico.
Maybe that’s where those old tarballs are coming from.
