Leaders of SPLC-designated hate groups rushed to defend leading presidential contender Michele Bachmann’s business, her husband Marcus’s clinic, from widespread publicity about their ex-gay “ministry and counseling.”
Peter Sprigg of the Family Research Council, which has been listed as a “hate group” by the SPLC, appeared on MSNBC alongside Log Cabin Republicans executive director R. Clarke Cooper.
“If this is indeed a Christian counseling center then is should not be surprising that the counselors help clients live their lives constituent with Christian values,” Sprigg said.
Head FRC hater Tony Perkins also made his warm feelings known for Michele and her husband’s discredited methods:
“Apart from Washington, D.C., and homosexual interest groups, the majority of the country will view Marcus’s work for what it is, a ministry of hope,” he said. “Pointing men and women who struggle with same-sex attractions to God isn’t ‘a discredited form of therapy,’ it’s the path to sexual healing. And it’s capable of bringing thousands of people out of bondage and into healthy behavior and a fuller relationship with Christ.”
Insane homo-hater Peter LaBarbera played the Xtian victim card:
“Folks, it sure didn’t take long for the liberal media to go into Christian-bashing mode against GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.),” LaBarbera said in a statement. He called ABC’s report, a “comically biased hit-piece by ABC’s Brian Ross — featuring the militantly anti-Christian homosexual organization Truth Wins Out.”
Even the usually more objective David Brody of CBN News, a Pat Robertson joint (a subsidiary of which granted Michele her “law degree”) was quite overwrought, mistakenly attributing the Truth Wins Out undercover and hidden camera work to ABC’s Brian Ross:
“[ABC's] crew decided to do an ‘undercover investigation’ about the use of reparative therapy at the Christian clinic owned by Michele and Marcus Bachmann. It is designed to convert gays back to heterosexuality through prayer and a therapeutic clinical process,” he wrote. “First of all, you’re kidding me right? They did an undercover investigation to make the point that the healing power of Jesus Christ can transform lives? That’s what passes for an undercover investigation nowadays? Oy-gevalt.”
Many thanks to Andy Birkey of the Minnesota Independent for collecting these responses in his article. You should probably make the Independent a regular blog-stop during the state’s shutdown and Michele’s candidacy’s implosion over the ex-gay scandal.

It’s great to see all these haters line up behind Crazy Eyes and her closeted husband. Next, I want Michele to stand up and say, “Of course it works! Look at Marcus, and we have five kids!”
I’ve heard there’s video of Michele Bachmann back in the day as a state legislator when she was creeping around on her hands and knees in the bushes to record a gay advocacy event.
And yes, I do mean to use the word “creeping” in all its possible definitions.
The mister needs a larger closet IMO.
Teddy, I just want one journalist to ask Divine LaBachmann if she will be obeying her husband should she be elected president. The foolishness just irritates.
And can you ask a moderator (should such still exist) to take down the spam from your thread. Thanks.
A sick woman with sick allies.
Michele Bachmann Exposes 23 Minors to Possible Pedophile?
Let me state at the outset that everything you will read after this sentence is based on logic, but only as logic applies to someone with Michele Bachmann’s belief system; if Bachmann really believes what she claims to believe, then her conduct in exposing 23 minors to whatever risks her home might have posed to those minors raises many uncomfortable questions …

The Bachmanns indict themselves.
While my post says 6:43, it is actually 7:43 PDT. I am curious to see how long it takes for someone…..anyone!…to take down the spam sales crap.
Hey, nice! Spam gone by 7:48 PDT. I do appreciate that. Gives me confidence in the site.
“Birkey” not “Nirkey”. Sorry for the typo.
Teddy, I assume SPLC = Southern Poverty Law Center?
Perhaps indicate this in the opening?
That is indeed the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Thanks, Mauimom, for pointing this out. Shoot, I can never remember my own login numbers, let alone all the acronyms for various groups. As a former English teacher, I always recommend spelling out the full name with acronym in parentheses and then using that along in the article. I see lots of the short cuts happening at FDL lately. I wonder if there are any actual editors on board?
Teddy, you MUST go to the first segment on today’s Daily Show.
Jon Stewart does an INCREDIBLE send-up of Marcus Bachman and ‘teh gay.’
Link asap, please.
I know them & contribute to them. Just wanted to give ‘em full recognition.
May I say that the leaders of the SPLC-designated HATE groups rushed to support Michelle – NOT the SPLC!
Jerry Seinfeld came on to “assist” Jon in not “attacking” Bachman by alleging he’s gay, and then said, “no, Jon, you can’t say
“Dr. Marcus Bachman is so gay he buys Brawney paper towels for the packaging.”
“He’s so gay Richard Simmons tells him to ‘tone it down’.”
“He shits Pinkberry.”
Yes, I’ve seen still photos of her “investigation” of the gay rights demonstration from her vantage point hiding in the bushes. She’s a loon.
Thanks, I had stepped away and wasn’t aware of it, but I appreciate your alert to the backstage folks.
Mauimom, thought for a moment that I was going to have to send you a bill for a new keyboard. lordy, that was funny.
Yes, I had thought the first quoted material spelled out their name. Sorry about that.
Um, yeah — I thought that was clear here:
Leaders of SPLC-designated hate groups rushed to defend leading presidential contender Michele Bachmann’s business
but it’s clear I could have taken a little more time with the lead sentence (including, obviously, spelling out the name of SPLC).
Thanks for the suggestions.
I have noticed the talibangelicals are unclear on many English words. Michele herself, we were talking about earlier, misuses the word “misnomer” quite regularly, sprinkling it through her speeches without regard for its meaning.
Perhaps it has some religious right code-word meaning?
Marcus looks like he graduated from a school like that. He probably can walk with a book on his head, and say “how now brown cow… ”
Well… (Jack Benny ) move those wrists when you walk, and dance… (tip off) what a stereotype fey sister boy, and that’s fine, I don’t criticize that… but who are those people? are they pretending it isn’t obvious to everybody how he is… ?
Kind of smiley and show boating, displaying himself, almost a Liberace caricature,
Years ago he’d fit right in down Polk St. flower shops.
Notice I am not condemning anything, I think it’s very entertaining, humorous.
At some point in the evolution of a country, when they need to let more types move into the government… and have new kinds of personalities, and ah… when in the time when the government ah… What ever, it ain’t that, it’s what else they are trying to pull the wool over whose eyes… see what I mean?
It was really a clever bit by Jon Stewart. First he showed a clip of Marcus and Michelle dancing. He so clearly wanted to say “this guy is so gay,” but he set it up as “I just can’t say something like that.”
And then the rest of the bit was his “restraining himself” [but sort of saying it anyway -- again and again]. Then Jerry Seinfelt showed up to “help” Jon with his problem, and said the above lines.
So Teddy, I’m hoping you like it and can link. An effective move by Jon Stewart, and it probably will get lots of play.
Her and other fundamentalist’s misuse of words seems an appropriate reflection of their thoughts and actions. The propaganda from many of these folks hinges on stripping words of their meaning (e.g. objectifying and abusing others is called love, murder is called justice, or Socialist and Nazi get conflated and both used strictly as an ad hominem label). When you engage in this professionally, as Bachmann does, or listen exclusively to this propaganda, you end up forgetting the meaning and exactness of words yourself.
“And it’s capable of bringing thousands of people out of bondage and into healthy behavior and a fuller relationship with Christ.”
Ironic. I am at a loss to think of what might be a greater form of bondage than to say, “Do exactly as you are told or burn in Hell forever.” Another fundamentalist misuse of words: slavery is freedom.
“. . . it’s the path to sexual healing.”
Marvin Gaye begs to differ.
Thanks Teddy Partridge,
I don’t keep up on LGBT issues as I should, but I always enjoy your treatment of any topic.
We all knew that she would implode, and were hoping that it would be glorious, but that it is this issue to be the mechanism; too much to have hoped for……glorious and impossibly ironic…….just exactly right.
Good cheap fun for tough times…..free entertainment.
I kept expecting Jerry to say “Not that there’s anything wrong with that” about Stewart’s comedy block, but alas it was not to be.
We call Marcus “The Center Square” at our house: occupied forevermore by the luscious Paul Lynde.
I think we might need that video soon.
The hate groups went public to defend Michelle not Newt who certainly has Cred with them, not Ron Paul who has Stormfront ties and thinks business should be able to refuse anyone service just because they are dark, gay whatever.
I think Michelle and the hate groups have already formed an alliance.
Ahhh…the Divine Paul Lynde…I miss him and his glorious wit.
