Citizen journalism at its very best.
The whole world is not only watching, they are being provided with simultaneously synched-up video evidence of your militarized police force’s egregious brutality of peacefully demonstrating students, Chancellor Katehi.

Thanks for highlighting this, Teddy!
Per Facebook, a massive General Assembly at UC/Davis (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=306219419396340&set=a.139608119390805.21941.132550980096519&type=1&theater) today voted for a general strike 11/28
When it hit my inbox, I was, like, can I put this up right now please? You are very welcome.
Yeah! but where is the Prez….leading from the rear again.
Remember the freedom to assemble rhetoric he and HClinton were belching during the Iranian protest & more recently,Egyptian protest……but not a word when brutality is occurring on protesters in our own country.
Do you really think these political creeps give a shit about you & I.
Take a look at this & get sick to your stomach with disgust: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9Zkd-KGmFM

Thanks for putting this up Teddy and thanks to the Wax Pancake for the compilation. Because of the multiple angles you can see that the police were not ever in any danger.
The reason that the police use the language they use is so that their actions can be seen as reasonable. But with video like this we can see just how far off their words of the event are from the event. A reasonable person can see that the students aren’t threatening them.
One more thing that I’ll bring up, because I want people to know,
This kind of pepper spraying of passive activists has been ruled excessive force. This weekend I contacted the lawyer who won the case in Humbolt Country that ruled the City of Eureka was liable for using excessive force in violation of the 4th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. There were
I’d like to know if police dept were aware of this ruling and if their protocols included an understanding of the proper and improper use of pepper spray. Had they received updated training on this issue? The case was settled in 2005.
Here is the link to the whole story that started in 1997.
http://nopepperspray.org/#agreementnear
San Francisco — An eight-person federal jury returned a unanimous verdict for the Q-Tip Pepper Spray Eight activists/plaintiffs, finding the County of Humboldt and City of Eureka liable for excessive force in violation of the 4th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies and Eureka Police Officers used unconstitutional excessive force when they applied pepper spray with Q-tips directly to the eyes of the eight nonviolent forest defense protesters in three incidents in 1997. Three of the activists were also sprayed directly in the eyes from inches away. Two of the young women were juveniles, aged 16 and 17.

I could only watch 2 minutes of NAZI STORM TROOPERS in america.
The guy with the can of Pepper spray is a sadistic mentally ill person that should be locked up in a jail cell that night . tonight is not to late
The “Chancellor” link will take you to the change.org petition calling on her to resign immediately, by the way.
Yeah, I’m gonna put an advisory atop the video. It’s quite graphic; sorry for omitting that.
When sheilding oneself from blows, from attack, may be called, “active resistance”, then not only has the Rule of Law been utterly destroyed, but sanity, reason, and humanity no longer may be said to exist within the nation which condones and embraces such official assault.
When the “law” lacks ANY moral compass and condones vicious brutality as “just”, then true justice can no longer have ANY role in the actions of a nation which worships power and money above life and common decency.
When a nation uses such “practices” on its own people, on human beings, and exports lethal “tools” of “suppression” to other nations to put down the people, the human beings, of those other nations, as well as engages in what it proudly calls “endless war” even as the society of its people is being destroyed, economically, for the benefit of a sociopathic few, then that nation is a clear and present danger to all of humanity, and to civilization everywhere in the world, especailly when that nation considers “the battlefiedl” to BE everywhere.
Thank you, Teddy, for providing such complete evidence.
Recommended … to those who would know the truth.
Watch it, if you dare …
I doubt that Barack Obama will have the courage to do so.
DW
That is the unvarnished truth, DW.
That is the real face behind the democracy-and-freedom mask of the United States of America and it’s in another universe beyond ugly.
Thanks for expressing it so well.
“When shall the artist assume his proper station in society…? How long shall the veriest vermin of the earth, who crawl around the altar of Mammon, be more esteemed of men than they, the gifted ministers to those exalted emotions which link us to the mysteries of Heaven? To our own query we may venture a reply. Not long. A spirit is already abroad at war with it.”–American genius, and patriot, Edgar Allan Poe in his first editorial statement for The Southern Literary Messenger
He’s probably too busy to watch because he is getting his jollies watching drones blowing up and incinerating innocent women and children.
Chancellor Katehi thinks she doesn’t need to resign because we all need to heal and move fucking forward.
Obama will be sad in his old age to notice that unlike JFK, who contributed “Ask not…” his verbal contribution to our polity, widely mocked, will be “Look forward, not backward.”
Well done, Andy Baio and Teddy. There’s nothing in this video to show me that police are experts in conflict resolution. Instead, I am looking at the video presentation and am once again forced to turn this over in my mind.
Until this set of vids, I had only noticed the student with the Afro but didn’t see what she did. As I wrote to my friend:
I was watching a 4-way video of the spray-event (at firedoglake), and I noticed the black girl I had seen in some other video, she’s got a big Afro hairstyle. In one of the 4 videos you can see that she is at the very front of the students as the cops are slowly walking backward (and three cops are half-raising their rifles). This girl has her arms outstretched like an airplane as if to 1) hold other kids back or at least ‘in formation’(since she was walking forward too) and 2) as if to say, “Yeah, shoot MY black ass and see how well THAT goes down in history, you fat pig motherfuckers” (not that I want to put words into her mouth), in essence protecting those behind her.
I love those kids at UC Davis! Something to be thankful for in these trying times.
Hi Teddy and Firedogs –
have you heard this one yet ?
1973, an uprising in Greece, led by students @ Athens Polytechnic – weakens the Junta and contributes to it’s overthrow
one of the enduring legacies was “a university asylum law that restricted the ability of police to enter university campuses. University asylum was abolished a few months ago, as part of a process aimed at suppressing anti-austerity demonstrations. The abolition law was based on the recommendatiions of an expert committee, which reported a few months ago ”
Linda Katehi was a member of this “expert committee”

Yes, they care about us deeply, that much is clear! The Chancellor weeping on TV, that’s just about her fear she might lose her job, not because she gives a hoot. She’s just another fascist sociopath in a position of power, we have an epidemic of that in this country. Obama condemns other heads of state but is silent when brutality and criminal activity occurs here. Shows you where he’s at.
If Katehi was not closely monitoring what was happening at this confrontation (which she probably was), then she is guilty of gross negligence.
There is no way that she can stay in that job. She’s proven herself incompetent at best. More likely, however, I think she gave the cops a LOT of leeway, up to and including pepper spray, and then turned them loose.
Not only is the whole world watching, speakers (bloggers) from many venues are chiming in. Two of my oft-read sites–Naked Capitalism and Healthcare Renewal–offered these deeper looks at what is happening at UC Davis.

Hello, Teddy,
I’m envisioning a clean sweep of everyone in power, down to the very communities that have ‘hosted’ these SWAT types – vote everyone out and thoughtfully write in a candidate that has demonstrated humane values and respected the rule of law. Also we have to make sure the votes aren’t hacked; we need to do exit polling, even if we have to organize that part ourselves.
Kent State is in everyone’s minds – just because it isn’t lethal force doesn’t give these brutes leave to unleash their non-lethal sadism.
Glenzilla also notices;
“I wonder where she learned that justifying rationale?”
Mothers have to get out there and scream, “Don’t you shoot our children!” And mama bear doesn’t even begin to approach the inherent level of ferocity I am feeling right now.
OMG. Amazing catch.
Linda Katehi was not only a member of the commission that recommended repeal of that university-asylum law (to enable the crushing of anti-austerity riots), she was also a student at Athens Polytechnic during that 1973 anti-junta uprising. That makes her something of a recognized expert in these matters.
Thanks for those links.

The Buck stops at the University President thats why they make the big bucks because they are responsible for everything its the same argument CEO’s make to justify high pay.
Funny how when the news is bad just like CEO’s the U President claims it wasn’t their fault.
To wigwam and others:
Thank you very much for the information you post about Linda Katehi – for some reason my computer is not loading in some of the linked articles this morning, at least not in any timely fashion, so I am relying on what you can tell me. (Might be a good sign that actually, yes, the whole world IS watching.)
If you were going to lose $ 8,000 a week you would be crying too.
Who wouldn’t ?
I think he’s busy grilling a nice black Libyan child over a slow fire for tomorrow’s Thanksgiving dinner (Tawurghans with cranberry sauce…delicious!), but I have no proof of that.
(Not entirely sarcasm.)
Good digging, cbl.
The hole in the Wiki bio on “Linda” Katehi
Pisti Basile Tseregounisand saw the converging timelines re the 1973 events in Athens was a tell. Good job everyone on your investigations.Three years ago Pike was sued over using anti gay slurs while on duty as a UC Davis cop

The cops in NY aren’t abiding by churches being any kind of sanctuary so this doesn’t surprise me.
x2. wow.
I think it’s the other way around; the local corruption supports the other levels of corruption.
Case-in-point.
FABULOUS!!!

thanks so much for the vid, Teddy.
probably would boost ratings if shown on Fox tho.
There are two parts to this incident. One of the pepper spraying atrocity. The other is when the students form a coherent mass to DRIVE THE STORM TROOPERS OUT!
Very emotional video. We are all witnesses.
You can see on the videos the exact instant when this happens.
Happy Thanksgiving all! Y’know, it’s funny that people are trying to represent cops spraying people with “food-based product” as normal police procedure. I was part of a pro-Bradley Manning demonstration (Facebook link) where some of us sat down and had to be removed. The cops there didn’t use any such material. They just picked our buddies up and took them to the vans.
Thank you for frontpaging this, FDL. This morning I give a personal thanksgiving for all who make this site possible. We are blessed to have you.
These fat pigs are better equipped than my uncle was at normandy beach, all to stop our college aged children from sitting on a sidewalk on a college campus……we suck by allowing this sickness to go on……
I have a question, it may be off topic.
UC Davis has almost 25 000 students that are now paying over $13,000.00 in tuition. That is about 325 billion dollars. That does not include book sales (100% profit), food services, dorm services, etc.
The state is proposing to raise the tuition to $23,000.00. That is about 575 billion dollars a year.
What is happening with all those billions of dollars?
But we must support him anyway because having an “R” sociopath replace the “D” sociopath we currently have is somehow unthinkable.
That’s what the shills and Obots tell me.
I think you mean million, not billion.
Shortly after, she moved to the United States. Was here admission to the US the return of a favor?
