The performance artist formerly known as Ace McCain has reached new heights in his dizzying continued efforts to inject himself into any available news story — with increasing lack of self-awareness. Seemingly oblivious to Americans’ reaction when the words “McCain” and “Vice-Presidential running mate” appear in a news story together, the Arizona Gluehorse now has advice for the president about his Veep:
John McCain said Wednesday he thinks “it might be wise” for President Barack Obama to replace Vice President Joe Biden on the ticket with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
“I think it might be wise to do that,” Sen. McCain (R-Ariz.) said on Fox News, responding to a suggestion that Sarah Palin made on Tuesday night.
Stop laughing, y’all.
One can only hope, I suppose, that David Gregory might be able to snag the elusive McCain for a discussion this coming Sunday on how, exactly, he applied this wisdom four years ago when there were stars in his old man’s eyes over Palin. But Ace is very tough to book for “Meet the Press” and the other Sunday gasbag programs.
So we may never know.

McBush thinks people are listening to his opinion on VP picks?!?
He still doesn’t realize what he did to himself with Palin. He still doesn’t realize what he did to the GOP with Palin.
Boxturtle (It’s altzheimers. it must be)
McC is truly the most self-absorbed person on the planet. His advice on any subject is a joke. And I thank you for the laugh, Teddy.
McCain broke everyone’s irony meter, but Biden’s comment was in exceedingly bad taste.
However, Hillary beat Biden to it by about several years with her “plantation” comment. For those who do not recall it, she equated, via metaphor, being a Democratic member of the United States Senate with being a slave.
ROTFLOL!!!!! Grandpa What’s-His-Name is providing his “sage advice” about VP candidates??? That’s a good one.
Thanks for today’s laff-a-rama.
Biden is not an asset, even without his “foot-in-mouth” disease. (Too much a corporatist Dem).
“Biden’s comment was in exceedingly bad taste.” — x2

You are quite welcome.
That this was promoted as ‘news’ on politico made me laugh. They really are in the trough for the GOP. How is Tampa going to work, exactly, I wonder? Will McCain speak but be prevented from mentioning Sarah’s name? Because that hall will be full of Palin believers.
Who will go wild at the mention of her name.
Where to start? Taking VP advice from a guy who picked Palin seems ill advised to me. In fact, it sounds like McLame is attempting to suppress the Democratic turnout while boosting wingnut enthusiasm by putting the Clinton haters into play. Right buddy. From old man yelling at cloud to old man being a concern troll.
Amazingly, the choice of Biden reassured the Village and Elite Media Pundits about Obama’s lack of experience. I mean, the man’s been in the Senate since I graduated from College, and he’s not that much older than I am.
But like any Democrat in the Senate, he’s a flawed vessel. Recall it was Joe, as head of the Judiciary Committee, who decided not to call the other women who had similar stories to Anita Hill’s, but instead proceeded to a vote and gave us Associate Justice Clarence Thomas. He could have stopped it; no Justice has been approved with fewer votes in modern history.
But Joe didn’t want to be “partisan.”
Well, I’m not qualified to make a diagnosis, but if I were his family I’d keep a close eye. I certainly would monitor his television engagements. His availability seems to have resulted in over-exposure, and if he’s deteriorating it could be sudden and quick. Much to his embarrassment.
Although I really think he would have been a dangerous president and his only solution to any national security problem has been more war throughout his entire Senate career, I don’t wish him an ignominious and public decline. No one deserves that.
I think McCain probably views his mentioning it as a clever way to extend the story, but the Clinton-swap-for-Biden scheme, while perhaps new to Ace, is such an old chestnut it hardly bears repeating in public any more.
Teddy, do you remember the Demi Dream thread? Years and years ago.
Lots of stuff between then and now, I know.
Once, I had a dream, where I could tell somebody who might someday have a power that could influence. It was me telling him to speak the truth and influence others about FISA.
You remember the nakedness was about Honesty.
If was a fantasy for me that someone could speak the truth.
Rings a bell.
Too late.
Gluehorse- snort.
You are amazing, Mr. P. Truly amazing.
That would be about 4 years ago, it seems.
What?
Advice from the man who picked Sarah Palin?
To be fair, Biden remains a tool of the Secret Government or perhaps one of its secret leaders. Biden accused Julian Assange of being a terrorist. But Assange has killed no one with drones, or tortured anyone as has Biden’s Corporate PuppetMasters. Joe Biden’s drones make new enemies every day. Assange has not made any enemies other than the Military-Espionage-Banker Complex.
But Biden in his unique clumsy way, is accusing Dan Ellsberg, who released the Pentagon Papers, of being a lesser terrorist than Assange. Asshole Biden.
The only evidence Biden presents is that “world leaders” want to meet with him alone. And Biden blames it on Assange. I guess the One Percent, have to blame everything, including their failed quagmires, on someone other than themselves.
I’m pretty sure that Sec. Clinton has already stated that she’s leaving the public sector after this term. Does Senator McCain need a hearing aid?
Oh, that’s what they meant by “change”. Sorry, not buying it. Too little, too late. Obama has got to go. I’d rather take my chances with Romney now than someone more conservative later. Besides, Obama is just going to screw things up even worse than someone that’s actually trying.
Why not vote for a third party? Why give your vote to someone who doesn’t deserve it(both parties?)
I got a good chuckle when I read that. Thanks.
Oh, naive one. Do you really think a third party could ever reach critical mass before being extinguished?
It’s more naive to believe that voting for someone who pretty much stands for the opposite of everything you believe( promises to eliminate taxes for the really rich on their investments, promises to cut social spending, etc, etc)will yield good results.
I’d rather be brave, draw my line in the sand with the two parties and take my chances.
Hey Joe! Where are you? Has anyone seen McCain’s Joe the Plumber. I think we need his feedback on this one!
Vice President Gasbag, formerly Senator Gasbag, has only one redeeming virtue: he isn’t Evan Bayh.
Spot on, tammanytiger–I’m thinking that you’re a Michagander. Or my memory may be failing.
So, I’m guessing that Bayh (who is seriously scary), was in contention for Joe’s job four years ago?

Yes, he’s bonkers, but the whole country is with him. If only just barely, it’s still possible to conceive of a country where a pol who sang “Bomb Tehran” to a group of VFW geezers would not be heard from ever again.
Lots of reasons why one might vote for a third party candidate, right?
Putting someone down so you can register your own cynicism is weak sauce. Not that the world isn’t full of people like that. . .
Pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will.
I should apologize. It was meant as a joking reference to George Wallace. I think the time is right for another party. Maybe the Tea Party can run as a third party instead of screwing up the Republican even worse than they are.
You must not be gay, or poor, or a woman, or a student, or an Old.
Because for all of these Americans, Romney will be demonstrably worse and not the same as Obama at all.
I really prefer to die by a quick surgical strike than a 5000 page manifesto. My wife is a woman, my son goes to college I’m old, and the jury still out on any possibly gay relatives. I’m just tired of the death by a 1000 cuts routine.
That’s right. Hillary’s toting the hod for Obama (more or less…) has endeared her to all of the froth-at-the-mouth republicans who think she’s the anti-Christ in a pantsuit…not to mention a lot of independents who will crawl to the polls to vote against her.
Hell, the repubs even hated her when she was drinking the warbot koolaid like it was her mother’s milk, and when she was willing to sell out almost every progressive principle to try to get the nomination.
In this election, where it’s not about who’d make the best preznint, but about who will make the worst one, all the democrats need to do is hook up with the politician who took 5 years to decide that the clusterfuck in Iraq was…a clusterfuck.
One of the early and crystal-clear indicators of just how badly Obama would stab progressives in the back, was when he proceeded to lard his new administration with so many Clinton retreads. Is he now going to help himself by dumping the loyal, if sometimes glitchy, Biden, in favor of Ms. Bubba? I don’t think so, but thanks anyway, John.
I’m sure you have the best interests of the democratic party at heart.
I’m not going to list the demonstrably good things Obama/Biden have done for the gay, poor, women, students, old and immigrants. If you’d prefer to have the safety net shredded fast and the resulting glorious revolution occur more quickly, I urge you to look around at your fellow Americans, addicted to TV, fast non-food, and sugary drinks — and ask yourself how that surgical strike is going to affect all of them.
Rising up to revolt against it isn’t in the cards, I’m afraid.
I’m too old to revolt. I just want to know the new rules so I can adapt.
I’m not drinking the Obama Kool-Aid anymore. He’s shown me the futility of resistance. I lost my religion under Bush, now I’ve lost my hopes for a better world under Obama. What’s next?
‘Dog, I think you’re right. Obama has done such wondrous rehab on the republicans and their belief-set that I don’t think they’re really too concerned that Mitt Romney is campaigning with both feet in his mouth.
Shoot, if I were a republican, I’d be as happy as a clam with the way things are going.
(at the moment…) It looks like Romney could screw up a can of peaches, and that plays into the democratic campaign wizardry of “We suck less!”, so perfectly that it’s getting harder and harder to avoid thinking that the fix is in like Flynn.
If he wins, Obama isn’t going to get the House back, and that, by itself, ensures another 4 years of corporate gridlock. John Boehner is still going to own him.
He might even be able to eke out a win and lose the Senate, too….which situation would probably suit him just fine, in his political heart of hearts.
The republicans are in great shape. In this election, they can’t lose.
Teddy, I’ve got a different point of view.
When I heard this “Repubs tell O to dump Biden,” I thought it was a bit of psych ops on their part. If they’re all out there advising Obama to do it, that ensures that he won’t, even though they can see that replacing Biden with Hillary on the ticket would make Obama stronger.
This is not an endorsement of Hillary [or Obama], just a thought that it could all be the Repubs searching for ways to promote their own version of “WE suck less.”
I mean, really, in 2008, the fear was that Hillary as the standard-bearer would bring the crazies out and give them energy. Now that Obama himself has done that, are there any ADDITIONAL crazies that will come out if Hillary were on the ticket?
‘…are there any additional crazies that would come out if Hillary were on the ticket.”
Good question. I think there are some…possibly enough to cost democrats the Senate. Biden won’t hurt Obama with independents. I think, with a few notable exceptions, he’s fulfilled the vp requirement to be seen and not much heard. I think Hillary will still be a lightning rod if Obama picks her for his running mate.
With Obama riding the “they’re even worse!” pony for all he’s worth, it would be pretty dicey for him to rock the boat with a late dumping of Biden for Hillary. As we get into the home stretch, I think this time he’s just trying to back into a second term. Tossing Biden would have a stiff odor of flop-sweat. Not good.
McCain just said this week:
“I am certain he did NOT pay taxes. Uh uh uh I mean he DID pay taxes.”
McCain get off the national stage now.
Would love to believe the time were right. Or better yet, left!
Loser and GOPer McStoopid telling a Dem who to have on their ticket? Hillary sounds like a corporate Dem also. Don’t want more years of Clintons–and now with floating the story that their daughter might want to go into ‘the family business’…Oh God. It’s time to doubledown and crown Biden once again as VP candidate. Kerry might be good too. All about the budget? Why didn’t GOPer VP candidate Ryan offset the lies and fake wars? Why didn’t Ryan offset the American $ used to allow thousands of American troops to be killed in the fake wars and lies? Using American money to build electrical grids, half billion dollar embassies and new police stations in other natons across the ocean is really stupid. Ryan does not appear to be an American. If I was a young voter–Ryan would be scary to me–especially if I was in the military. Romney chose to knock on doors and push to recruit for the Mormons rather than to go to viet Nam. However, didn’t Romney protest to acually send other people’s children to viet Nam while he was safe and wrappd in the Mormon blanket? Now, Romney does not appear to want to pay his fair share in taxes to take care of the men who went to viet Nam for him. Romney–a really unlikable fellow. Ryan appears weak–like someone’s front. —a really unlikeable fellow as well.
I’m definitely a Michigander. Please don’t call me a “Michiganian,” it sounds like something concocted at a focus group.
How much egg can be stuck on that guy’s face, I wonder. I remember just before the crash in 9/08, when he confidently said “the economy is fundamentally sound” (or was it, “the fundamentals of the economy are sound”). Which proved his mind was not.
Do you think continuing to vote Democratic is less naive than voting third party?
Besides, who said the only reason to vote third party is having a third party reach a critical mass?
For one thing, do you think Clinton would have been such a deficit hawk without Perot’s campaign?
Yes, but failing to vote third party may be the worst possible choice for the future of the country–and therefore of our descendants.
How much is Mittens paying you to come onto supposedly “liberal” sites and post shite?
This is the guy who thought Sarah Palin would make a good running mate.
Enough said.
And the White House aligns itself with your remarks, at yesterday’s press conference:
Q On the Vice President, one short question. I’m not going to get — I hear exactly what you’re saying, I’m not going to repeat the same stuff, but since the President has given the vote of confidence and you’ve defended the Vice President repeatedly, does this settle it once and for all, all the speculation, this is the ticket? Obama-Biden? (Laughter.) That’s a yes or no, it’s not –
MR. CARNEY: Yes. And that was settled a long, long time ago. And while I appreciate — I have great admiration for and respect for and a long relationship with Senator John McCain, but one place I would not go for advice on vice presidential running mates is to Senator McCain.
Biden is not an asset. He’s pretty neutral, and he is not presidential material. Since the VP normally graduates to be nominee, and neither Obama nor the Dems have indicated any displeasure with him, then I think it is evidence that they all expect Hillary to run again in 2016 and get their full support — including Biden’s. He will be too old then, and it is fair to assume that he will not be any more presidential four years from now than he was four years ago. Hillary will take a much earned vacation, but she will remain in the public eye. How else can one avoid it when married to Bill. She departs from a top level job with a very good public image to build on for 2016. She may still have a tough time in 2016 because, I am VERY hopeful, she could end up running against Elizabeth Warren. Liz would get my vote hands down, but Liz has to win this election first, and that’s not going to be easy.
