We heard the Romney family claim their Mexican heritage at last week’s RNC without mentioning that the reason their forefathers fled the United States of America was because polygamy had been made illegal in exchange for the admission of Utah to the Union. What we had not heard until today was Lenore Romney, Mitt’s mom, explain that her husband, George, despite his great wealth, had a very good understanding of people in need.
He was a refugee from Mexico, on welfare relief, for the first years of his life.
So — Mitt Romney’s dad came to America, pre-welfare reform, and was on welfare despite his Mexican heritage, without his family having contributed to the system that supported himself and his family. Why does that sound so familiar, Mexicans coming to America to steal benefits from hard-working Americans that they haven’t earned?

Who is gonna tell Jan Brewer?
Yeah maybe Brewer can shake her finger at George RMoney’s grave & get Sherriff Joe to dig up the remains and put them in pink undies and stick ‘em in a tent in the boiling hot sun. That’ll teach ‘em!
Good catch, Teddy. I’d tweet it but I don’t know how that new-fangled Twitter machine works. I guess I need to catch up to the 21st century.
In other news, the stagecoach leaves for Tombstone in the morning…
It should be interesting to see if the story gets some MSM circulation, at which time it will be even more interesting to watch Willard ad his handlers tap-dance around it.
I’m having a hard time following this whole scenario. Refugees from America flee to Mexico only flee Mexico to sneak into America??????
Makes me think nobody wants the Romneys.
So Romney’s dad was a wetback. Who’d uv thunk it?
Actually, if I read correctly, he was a “double wetback”.
Just like Bush Jr with even less of a conscious.
Well, it’s all good, anyway, since George RMoney was WHITE (even though his tribe was indulging in polygamy). Got it??
George, despite his great wealth, had a very good understanding of people in need.
Whatever. We aren’t electing George, and it didn’t rub off on the son, if true, that is.
Oh wait! That understanding did rub off!
Mitt just wants to pull the ladder up behind him.
That was his dad; Mitt was born on third base and came of age after his dad hit a home run. All he had to do was touch home plate–no time pressure.
What Romney’s dad did was to put a high gas mileage “economy” car in showrooms to compete against the first wave of imports that arrived in the early 1960s. The cars were solid. I drove the Rambler that my parents bought until it was 22 years old.
Mitt has no understanding of that type of business.
You make a point about something I’ve been pondering (not all that profound). We’re told to venerate “job creators.” What does that really mean in today’s world?? Yes, there are true *small* business entrepreneurs, who start businesses of various sorts all the time.
Nowadays we don’t have “job creators” as much like we did when George Romney was doing his thing, or, for ex, like Dave Hewlett & Bill Packard created HP. Silicon Valley is one of the bigger exceptions, where new, large companies do begin, expand and grow.
But a lot of older companies that actually, you know, MADE stuff and employed workers…?? They’re gone with the death of our manufacturing sector. Now we have the spawn of the founders of the old-school companies. As you say, these progeny are born on third base; go to expensive private schools; are priviledged all through life. And what do they do? Like Mitt RMoney & GW Bush, they run around leveraging businesses into bankruptcy and walk away with a boatload of cash. They get ahead mainly bc of Daddy’s connections & their privileged private school upbringing.
Yet we’re told Fairy Tales about how they “work so hard” and “deserve all their money.”
Well blah blah blah… we’ve been down this road before, but just to say: Mitt ain’t no George RMoney. He’s a vampire sucking the life-blood out of our economy, along with all his other legacy brat “colleagues.” They create nothing but destroy so much.
Whatever “roots” they might’ve had are irrelevant.
No, he was born in Mexico so he only crossed once.
Hi onitgoes.
This is a diary that was cross posted at myFDL. Absolutely compelling story about a real job creator. It is long, but worth it.
Mitt’s Dad was born in Mexico so no US birth certificate. He never paid taxes for welfare or for the public schools Mitt went too.
Also Mitts GrandFather fled America unlike today’s illegal immigrants because he could not live with American polygamy laws he defacto if not formally then renounced his American citizenship.
By such an action he denied his son who should have inherited citizenship from Mitt’s granddad the chance to claim American citizenship.
But this was not known at the time and Mitt’s father was White so it was overlooked.
Its my understanding that illegal immigrants don’t get Welfare maybe the rules were different then but if they were not then if we accept my idea that Mitt’s Dad was not a Citizen. Then Mitt’s Dad was a welfare cheat.
Thanks. I read most of it when it was front-paged here but recommend it for others to read. It is a truthful story.
It’s very hard to create a business from the ground up. My brother-in-law started his own company many years ago, and he got it going with small bus. loans from the Small Bus. Admin, plus a very very very generous loan (which may have ended up being a “gift”) from my parents. My parents were not wealthy, but they had a nest egg. My BiL was lucky that he could fall back on that.
His business has waxed and waned over the years. He’s gone from having as many as 35 or 40 employees to having only 5 or 6. Presently, his company is not doing so hot, although it’s still functioning. My sister & her husband are getting by mainly on my sister’s salary & benefits as dreaded, horrid, drain-on-the-system despicable public school teacher. I know! Sickening, isn’t it??? /s
It has been a big lesson to my fundie rightwing quasi-”Libertarian” family. The present state of my BiL’s business – not great – is certainly due to no fault of his; he definitely works his butt off. But hey, presto! Not much business around; not much demand; ergo, not much revenue coming in. But I guess my Boomer BiL needs to get off of his lazy butt & go figure out how to rip off someone in order to make himself rich, so that my slacker sister can stop sucking off the govt tit. ??? Is that it? Maybe my BiL should just go rob a bank! At this point, I might cheer him on to do that.
No matter how hard you work, you’re not always going to hit the jackpot. True small businesses have a tough row to hoe in this country, and it’s just gotten harder. It’s true (really) that sometimes the truly small businesses are hit with a lot of taxes, which may seem unfair. Well, they ARE unfair taxes in light of the fact that the mega-corps get boatloads of tax incentives, tax deductions & tax loopholes that *most* truly small business do not.
Another side of the story is this: MegaCorps/the 1% have sucked the lifeblood out of this country via an unfair tax code. Even small business entreprenuers – no matter how much they’re pandered to by either of the “two” parties – face sometimes insurmountable obstacles to getting ahead… obstacles that simply do not exist for the mega-corps run by the 1%, like Bain.
Wake up sheeples….
Since illegals can’t get welfare now many Hispanics are going to be wondering if Mitt’s Dad being White was why he got Welfare. Way to piss off Hispanics voters Ann!
I thought only native born Americans could run for President? Mitt’s Dad would not be native born and would not have inherited citizenship once his father fled America because he would not comply with our laws.
Brewer’s human teleprompter is having technical difficulties reaching the Governor right now …

Here is where I see the new “job creators” appearing (assuming we are not successful in replacing the hierarchical corporate form with some other way of organizing large scale business projects).
Distributed renewable energy–residential, homeowner association, and neighborhood scale solar and wind connected to a SmartGrid and collectively sold to the investor-owned power companies as co-ops. The manufacture, installation, and maintenance of that will create jobs.
A whole variety of manufacturing operations implementing open-source 3-D printing. The more distributed and closer they are to market, the more overhead is reduced.
Businesses leveraged off of technical tools workshops (the Make movement) and the many start-up incubators in the country.
The initial sales, financing of start-up production and other start-up costs can be handled through sites like Kiva and Kickstarter. And other microfinance institutions like some credit unions.
And the job creators organizing these operations need not organize the internal polity like conventional corporations. There is wide room for a lot of experimentation in how to get decisions made rapidly without a hierarchy.
Mitt has fallen far from the apple tree. Very far.
Thanks for this link. FB’d
Considering all the corporate welfare Mitt Romney has received, it looks like the fruit didn’t fall far from the tree of hypocrisy….
And according to conservative dogma, receiving “welfare” would make them an African American family.
Scuttlebutt is that most Union leadership has told Labor that in order to keep their jobs they must vote Obama as if that’s the only option. Note that Labor has already made numerous unconscienable concessions only to get messed over anyway. { slap to forehead }
Totally crazy making.
No. Brother-in-Law is supposed to sell his company to a new Bain LLC, who will take over operations — have their other companies buy goods and services from the company, load the company up with debt, pay themselves a success fee, management fee, and then let the debt destroy the company even more. Then they will sell the company or take it into bankruptcy, which ever works best for their taxes.
It sometimes strikes me at times just how much Obama can sound like a Rockefeller/George Romney Republican while Mitt Romney is (or tries to be) to the right of Goldwater. As I have joked a few times, this general election sometimes feels like it is little more than re-staging the 1964 GOP Primary.
