US Think Tank Suggests Americans to Boycott Upcoming Elections
A US think tank said that Americans should boycott the upcoming US elections rather than choosing between bad and worse, because the policies of the US presidential rivals, (US President) Barack Obama and Mitt Romney pursue the interests of the one percent rich instead of the ordinary people. http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9107113266

Oh good, they have a sense of humor!

I’d like to see a tax revolt.
Excellent idea.
I used to think PCR was an OK guy until I read his recent column defending Reagan foreign policy in Latin America.
Having said that, boycott ain’t a bad idea. Why cast a hackable ballot in a faith-based election?
Who are you?
Why should I take this idea seriously?
What if I decide to write in “FDL Terri” on my ballot instead of not voting? Is that worse or better than not voting at all?
Terri, wanderindiana asks a fair question…. and a good one.
Who are you and why do you keep posting this stuff?
What “think tank”…. to what end. WTF.
What are your credentials to keep telling people to give up their vote?
As far as I know, you could be some right wing nut case trying to drive down the left vote.
Boycotting is a terrible idea. The right to vote is a precious one, and it shouldn’t be scorned. If you don’t like one of the two legacy party candidates (and I don’t), vote for a third party candidate. If there’s no third party candidate on the ballot, write someone in. Jill Stein, my pick, is a great candidate. A strong vote for her will, at the very least, help to make the Democrats realize they are harmed by ignoring liberal voters.
We won’t reform or replace the two-party system by ignoring it. The best I can do is to show my disgust by voting for a third party. In this case, that’ll be the Green Party, since they are closer to becoming mainstream than the rest.
I think we miss Romney’s secret message. Unless you are a one issue voter, don’t vote.
If some non single issue voters don’t listen to the hint, Republicans will try to get them kicked off the ballot.
The right to vote being precious has been superseded by the fact that giving your vote to a government defense contractor and trusting on fairy tale whimsy that it gets counted is insane.
Dearie, those are excellent questions.
Personally, I really don’t care whether or not Terry is a mole. Watching people not giving a damn that the voting process is not legitimate and tra..la..la..ing along with a broken process is what upsets me.
Please be consistent and apply the same amount of suspicion with respect to who is “counting” your vote, and ask yourself, if watching the theater presented to us and pretending to “participate” is enough to satisfy your soul that the “precious” right to vote means jack shit.
http://www.bradblog.com/?p=9613
Excuse me, I mispoke above when I said “broken.”
Corrupted is the word I should have used.
I keep thinking the same thing, Dearie. Exactly what is this so-called “boycott” going to do?
And why keep beating this horse.
Although presuming nefarious intent is unfair, this recent blitz of posts encouraging people not to vote by a previously unknown participant on a lefty site should rightly be viewed with a healthy skepticism.
Who is “Terri”? Is there any substantive reason to believe this isn’t just another cynical voter suppression tactic from the right?
I think what you do is vote Obama. This gives time to fight back against an adversary who is possible less prone to open violence than a Republican president. You also vote any progressive candidates, obviously, and you monetarily support progressive candidates. You work against Blue Dog Democrats and Republicans in any way you can.
After the election, get involved in protests, but also stay engaged in the political contest on the part of progressive candidates.
No money for Democratic or Republican candidates unless they are PROGRESSIVES (I know, what are the chances of a progressive Republican–there aren’t any).
Protest, but non-violence is key. If you can be part of a non-violent protest on behalf of progressive aims, you do it. Violence and destruction of property are self-defeating strategies.
Support unions, support workers rights, and when the general strike happens (and it will come) go out in support of fellow workers.
And I really like the Tax Strike idea.
I’ll tell you who Terri is – she’s Terri Lee, and she bans anyone from her Facebook page who dares disagree with her and this idiocy she is promoting.
She would ban them here too if she could, I am confident. Instead, she just disappears, like a cockroach, when people shine the light on her by asking real-world questions.
A movement? Not so much – unless we’re including those of the bowel…
Nah.. she’s been doing that for a couple of years now.
Always reposting someone else’s work, but never her own. She’s been on tv, too.
I think there are nutsos out there that believe that politicians really care if you vote or not. They prefer low turnout, as we all know.
YEA like at the NJ Weedman trial where AMERICANS , handing out pamphlets to all entering the court house , describing your rights as a jury member to vote that the law is unlawful instead of the person, were arrested.
Talking and voting ain’t going to change jack shit one.
In broad daylight they blew away a president and did the world trade centers , again in broad daylight the message being “what are you going to do about , Punk ?
And this as just as likely as those urging third party Green voters could be GOP moles seeking to lower the Green vote.
Goopers donated to Nader.
Hey, anyone check Jill Stein’s donor list lately?
“The easiest way to make a man a slave is to give him a vote and tell him he’s free.” – Albert Camus
“The people who vote mean nothing, the people who count the vote mean everything.” – Josef Stalin
Sound familiar? Both of these quotes are from decades ago and have nothing to do with this “most important election of all times” version1356.0, and yet are familiar enough to sound topical.
Robamaney agree on 90% of the issues, so the winner of the Beauty Contest could claim a mandate from 95% of votes cast. Congress wallows in a 15% approval rating, yet, predictably, 85% to 90% of incumbents standing for reelection will be returned.
The right to vote is a “Sacred” part of the American narrative, just as “Equality before the Law” is, how has the later been working out lately?
I see a lot of personal attacks on the writer, but outside of hackneyed cliches, not so much on the ideas submitted ( seriously, Social Media? Are we all 16?). What was Einstein’s definition of insanity again?
As always, the question to ask is: “Who Stands to Benefit?”
The voters? Progressives?
Republicans will not boycott the vote. They will quite happily pull the lever for (R) Evil. Romney was picked because he is the Most Electable Evil.
Who Stands To Benefit?

Since my reply was too long for this post .
donkeytale:
Usually you promote voting for Dems.
blueokie:
A number of us have refuted the idea of a boycott on terri’s other posts. Can’t speak for the others, but I’m kind of bored with it now.
terri:
Have you promoted the boycott on Republican and Tea Party websites? What has been the reaction?
I was going to reply to others with your words.
But it would be basically everything you wrote.
Spot on.
We’ve been through this before.
Twice!
Last time terri’s post generated 100+ comments. All thanks to FDLers who do NOT support her views.
And once again, people are so sensitive about the issue.
Can’t attack the ideas, so people attack her personally and her motivations. Yo geniuses, what does that say about you?
If you want to vote, then go ahead. She’s not stopping you.
I’m not voting for a corrupt system. And I lose no matter who wins. The two candidates are basically the same. Either way, we all lose.
I personally, me, myself, and I, do not think that this corrupt system will allow a third party. The votes aren’t verifiable. Go ask Ohio 2004. And does anyone think it isn’t worse these days?
I will not vote for a corrupt system, nor do I think, for me personally, that voting maters.
If you want to vote, then go ahead. But other people should be allowed to make up their own mind without attacking people’s motivations without evidence.
Oh ya, if you hate the topic so much, tell me something … why keep adding to the diaries comment count?
The most likely thing is that you are a biased Dem party hack.
.
Sure, about twenty thousand dollars, with the goal of hurting the Dems, not helping Nader. And guess what, Nader promised them nothing in return, unlike your candidate for the one percent. How ’bout that?
Now, tell everyone why you make no mention of the $1.5 million the Democrats spent to help GOP candidate Todd Akin?
.
I’m sure you already did. If you had anything other than innuendo up your ass, you would have pulled it out.
BTW, how ’bout that Dem donor list? You don’t think all those one-percenters are throwing all that cash without a guaranteed payoff, do you?
Spot on. Occam’s razor tells us that this is no coincidence. Nothing happens in a vacuum. Terri never participates at all except to scold us for voting. I wonder how many right wing sites she goes to? I wonder if any would let her get away with it? Flagged and flagged again until this garbage stops.
Conservatives especially prefer a low turnout. Witness all the voter ID and suppression laws. All in states currently presided over by Republicans, WITHOUT EXCEPTION.
Indeed. But the repetitive diaries are a little tiresome. It’s that dead horse thing.
I’m voting for Jill Stein. This is the first time that I have read a terri post, if it can be called that. Supposedly we are to put more substance in a diary with explanations or links. I won’t flag this; I only flag commercial posts. In the future, I expect the mods to do their job and I will skip any more of her diaries.
All one has to do is click on her diary links to have some context. I don’t recommend reading through all of them though. :)
It’s quite entertaining to watch the hysteria created by Terri’s diarys. First it was a Right Wing conspiracy and now it’s a Democrat conspiracy or it’s too late to be bothered.
I guess there must be something about the Boycott Movement that frightenes many Liberals because support for the Boycott is growing.
Here’s a far more articulate (and hopeful) enunciation of a post-boycott scenario than has been proposed here:
