First Empathy for others
The Muslims say you can spread Jihad holy war by fighting, by giving cash to the fighters and by words to support the jihad.
I try and fight for the less fortunate here because well not for ” there but for the grace of God go I”.
Not because it makes good economic sense and leads to a stronger society.
But because I want too.
(If the Lake ever gets a set of core principles or mission statement I want that in:)
Also
I would rather lose with my friends fighting for whats Right, Just and most of all to help people than win win with people I don’t like just to make myself richer or hurt others.
Next as far as how to comment at the Lefty Blogs goes
I think the rules should be
Do not expect free speech to ever mean I get to say what ever I want and attempts to argue with me with facts are an attack on my free speech.
Instead expect to argue as much as you want strong argument makes both sides work harder to develop their ideas and makes us better than the Righty blogs which tolerate no dissent.
Please remember to attack the ideas not the person because that is an attack on free speech. Try to use the best news sources you can find when challenged give links and quotes when challenged about your facts and be willing to admit that yes even you can sometimes be wrong:)

I also think that, if we ever lose our sense of humor in these dark times, we’re pretty much fucked.Don’t know if that could be listed as a core principle, but I do think that social conscience brings us together here, and at other lefty blog sites.
Could we ever agree on a set of social conscience statements where we agreed on positions on various issues? I do not know. I think that the left has difficulty with self-agreement and support, and I see a lot of left attacking left (talking generally here and not necessarily Lake- there is some awful back and forth on some of the sites)
I guess what you are saying is that we need to not lose the ‘bigger picture:’ what is the right thing?

I put up this post in part to learn things I know I missed humor I missed I will leave it to better people than I to help define humor.

I agree on social issues heck any issues we can’t agree and should not agree but we should agree how we treat each other.

Mak made good arguments I disagreed with he and Bluebutterfly are friends but I fear we lost both and the Lake is weaker ok.

Well, I think that you are on the right track. No matter what the discussion is, efforts to place topic over person should be made.
I am fascinated with social groups and communities in general. Online communities are unique in that, under the insulation of anonymity, people often say things that they may never say face-to-face. This can lead to rigorous debate but also to some hurt feelings or misunderstandings. A huge part of communication is, after all, lost online: body language, tone, a little nuance here, a little eye contact there…and sometimes these losses lead to great mis-statements and misunderstandings.
Trolls (an unknown person flying in from out of the blue to attack and spew)- well, it is very tempting to engage them, but probably best just to ignore.
I am not familiar with the two readers/commenters/community members you mention here.
I like that everyone brings some unique personality to the community. It is fun to virtually get to know people.
PS: Things, you are smart. You do not need anyone smarter to lead you- you are incredibly smart and thoughtful…and I am not alone in appreciating you here at the Lake.

c) The capitalist system pressures one to win to survive so many people work with people they don’t like and do things they don’t like to do because they “must”. Compradors do this not just to survive but to be a part of the power. Everybody gets twisted in this system but compradors must wear the mask of success while torturing their own kind. Most of them can’t be honest about how they’ve been played.

While our our president lead a fight that Wellington who beat Napoleon thought we could win the Americans came by ship to our capital. The 1 % did not open the weapons depot.
They feared the 99% wining even if we lost half our land more than giving us any hope we could win.

We argue perspectives, motivation, nuances, and facts – and – as is said of discussions in the Israeli legislature (The Knesset הַכְּנֶסֶת) – in any room with two members of the legislature there are 5 opinions on every topic.
I think everyone thinks they have their point of view because it is the right thing to do, to have that point of view. But for many religion is a touchstone for our life – and no need to put those folks down.
And Aztec – one of my Aztec friends (from Peru) still plays Sunday soccer on the national mall in DC at the age of 50. Great DNA – Great endurance and strength – refused to become a doctor like both his parents but is an artist and teacher – even teaches classes at the Corcoran Gallery of Art/ Corcoran College of Art and Design. A tough act to follow for the rest of us, and a wonderful person to all who know him.
Things, you nailed it. Of all the things we have lost in this country, I believe that our inability to feel empathy is the most harmful. So many really terrible acts would not have been possible if Americans any longer felt for others. Our indifference to the pain of other people is going to cause us many problems IMO.
