The throwing of not one but two shoes at President Bush by Iraqi journalist Muntadar al-Zaidi during this past weekend’s press conference was met with mixed reviews. Many people see Zaidi as a hero, others are appalled at what he did, and some people like Fox‘s Neil Cavuto see this incident as proof that Iraq is truly liberated:
“What further proof then do you need that Iraq’s been liberated, right? Reporters there not only free to challenge leaders, sometimes they can even throw shoes at them.”
This is not proof of Iraq’s liberation; rather we should step outside the box and use this shoe throwing incident as an opportunity to understand the anger to which 8 years of Bush’s failed policies have given rise.
Bush was in the Middle East to show off the successes U.S. policies have created in Iraq. Even though Bush was speaking to a mostly Middle Eastern press corps, his goal was to convince non Middle Eastern people that the Iraq invasion is still a good thing. But how can you convince Iraqis that U.S. policies are great when the Iraqi civilian death count keeps rising? (Iraq Body Count reports 89,881 to 98,133 documented civilian deaths from violence.)
As the world ponders this incident, we should listen to what Zaide shouted at Bush when the second shoe left his hand, “This is from the widows, the orphans, and those who were killed in Iraq!” Let’s hope that President-elect Obama doesn’t make the same mistakes that Bush has.

Thanks Tim.
I don’t think Bush knows what the guy said. He told Candy Crowley that the shoe toss was “One of the most weird moments of my presidency”. He doesn’t seem to grasp the fact that he was called out on the deaths he has caused.

Bush’s pathology of denial must block out what the shoe thrower said. As I watched the video I spotted something immediately as Bush snappily responded to the reporter’s question. Bush said something to the effect that the shoe thrower just wanted to call attention to himself. Bush still maintains that in BB’s link.
For me, this is a telling clue to Bush’s trail of destruction which he has left behind for his entire life. Spoiled children use this same tool and many continue the practice their entire lives. If all eyes are not focused on them, they will destroy something or make a mess of some kind to draw attention back to themselves.
Bush projected upon the shoe-thrower his own motivation for destructive behavior. Does Bush consciously know this? IMHO he lacks sufficient insight to understand much about himself, and does not care as long as he gets his way.
Bush has spent his whole damned life trying to do something right in daddy’s
eyes.
Everything that the ‘decider’ decided in his adult life has ended as a complete SNAFU.
I opened the DIGG, commented there, and recommended above.

Not sure why the news keeps repeating that Al Zaidi is a folk hero across the Arab world”…this man is folk hero across the world
If they pretend that just Arabs think he is a hero, they can keep up the illusion that the whole world isn’t fed up with Bush and his policies, lies, etc. It is also an effort to perpetuate the us versus them syndrome..the Arabs are bad kind of thing. The all important Israel versus Arabs thing above all must be maintained at all costs. You know what I mean..white/good and brown/bad crapo and Christian ‘good’ and Islam/bad. Especially bad when they sit upon ground that has oil in it.
Interesting comments from people around the world. Quite a few from Afghanistan
