Eviction delayed for Occupy Newark protesters:
The group has occupied Military Park since mid-November. The city clerk’s office sent the group a letter on Tuesday telling them they would have to leave by 9 p.m. Thursday. Newark City Clerk Kenneth Louis says the eviction deadline has been extended until Saturday at 9 p.m.
…snip…
The council adopted an ordinance in December giving the group permission to stay in the park.
Mayor Cory Booker this week said he hoped the Occupy protesters would respect the deadline.
“The city council has done something rare, changed laws to accommodate them,” he said. “So now the question is will the Occupy Newark people respect the residents of this city, because I do not want to be put in a position where I have to draw down police resources, sanitation resources and the like to remove the tents and the people who might be in violation of the curfew.”

Thank you, tobiasfox. We traveled to support the Bellingham,Wa eviction. It’s really hard go through, even as mere supporters. I’m glad that Newark is working out an amicable eviction.
Bellingham had 24 hours and bullshit city politics.
That said, who knew little old Bellingham had access to a county mobile jail complete with 6 union workers,a processing unit[couldn't see inside, 26 riot cops, 6 [?] superiors, cop helicopter, paramedic and fire trucks, city workers [8?] moving stanchions, they trailered inthe horsecops but took them back home without unloading, weird camera guy with a laserlike green lens capturing everyone. Except the drunks who live in the park,no camera scan necessary. Their tirades made the print news as concerned citizens.
Occupy Bellingham people led us to the City Hall after the eviction for a GA in the warm marble lobby.
You can’t evict an idea.
I suppose I should’ve added that there were less than 100 people to evict. And everyone would have cleaned up the park better than the 6 laborers the city trucked in to rake the wood chips Occupy Bellingham left in the park, even as the dangerous situation needing all those tax dollars was unfolding.
yeah, you can’t evict an idea
I remember how everyone was praising Mayor Booker when he helped dig constituents in need out of the snow during the blizzard awhile back.
Let’s see how he treats constituents in need now…
Cory Booker used to support the Occupy Newark effort. Is he giving a reason for not supporting it, now?
Obama probably gave him marching orders…
