If congress can "fix’ the problems contained in the proposed legislation later, why can’t these same politicians make the changes now?
Why will anyone’s vote change in the future?

Great question, Tpaz. This is all smoke to provide cover to progressives and liberals who otherwise are being called traitors. Notice that Dennis Kucinich has used this line to explain away his flip-flop. We all know, and DK certainly knows, it ain’t gonna happen.
I hope someone, anyone, can ask this question just once on camera before the vote.
because all the forces of darkness are lined up together to prevent passage and once passed, they’ll separate and changes in the law picking them off one piece and one special interest at a time will be easier.
I thought all the forces of darkness are lined up together to stop Single Payer. The dark forces are ok with mandates without caps.
some are more than ok with carrying off extra plunder, some are waiting to sell their vote for top price, some are simply there to vote no on anything that helps the administration and the Democrats, some are reluctant to vote for anything that has been misrepresented so relentlessly that their constituents are scared of it.
the coalition of the unwilling will dissolve, after sucking everything they can, and some mutant bill passes.
I find it fascinating that the leadership is now discovering these clever ways to pull the watered-down HRC bill across the finish line,i.e Reconciliation, Deem and Pass, Voice Vote Ping-Pong, but at the start of HRC only 60 votes would do.
It’s as if someone opened a long-lost congressional rule book and magically, these arcane rules appeared. If these these rules can be employed to pass a bad bill, take the time and pass a good one.
they’ve had quite a bit of time and have never gotten anywhere near to passing anything. how far did the Clinton’s get?
I’ve got the idea that if nothing passes now, it’s gonna be another dozen years before the next chance.
No, you’re wrong. If the bill fails this weekend, they have between next week and the November elections to pass Alan Grayson’s four page HR 4789 Medicare Buy In bill. Let’s see; that would be two months of clever leadership to find votes for each page.
Let’s do this thing!
and I’ll be quite glad to be wrong if it turns out that way.
probably take a whole big bunch of clever, tho.
I’ve been growing hydroponic spines in my basement just for this occasion.
This whole thing is positively nauseating! yechhh!
I can’t and won’t support this POS of a bill. I don’t care what my friends, family or neighbors think, either.
Why aren’t you in congress? Please run.
Because they don’t want to now and they aren’t going to change this later ,except in IMO to make it even worse. This notion being sold to the disappointed base out here that we shouldn’t worry because some how magically this will be fixed someday is utter baloney. Once this piece of Corporatist crap is made law the parts that will disappear are 1. the promise of subsidizes. 2. Any regs. that limit the Ins. mafia from doing with us they please. In the end the ONLY part s that will be strictly enforced are those that fatten the bottom lines of the health Corps. like the mandate and the excise tax. the rest will be either gamed or dropped quietly. This whole thing is a sham and the dems. know it. The simple truth is they DO NOT care.
