Not so fast Mr. Ted "I was not convicted" Stevens. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has responded to the Stevens/Inouye statement that claimed Stevens would retain his Senate seat until the appeal process was complete.
"While I respect the opinion of Senator Daniel Inoyue, the reality is that a convicted felon is not going to be able to serve in the United States Senate. And as precedent shows us, Senator Stevens will face an Ethics Committee investigation and expulsion, regardless of his appeals process. This is not a partisan issue and it is unfortunate that Senator Stevens has used his longtime friendship with Senator Inouye for partisan political gain."
Sen. Stevens plans to address the people of Alaska on live television Monday night. In the two minute ad, he will "speak directly to Alaska families about his candidacy, vision for Alaska, and future in the U.S. Senate."
This innovative approach to communicating with voters has never been used before by an Alaska candidate. Without the filter of the media, Alaskans will be able to hear from Senator Stevens in his own words during this spot which is four times longer than standard television ads. This unique format will allow Senator Stevens to speak in greater detail about issues that concern Alaska voters and not just in the sound bites that 30-second advertisements require.
I wonder if he will be able to convince the people of Alaska to ignore the seven felony counts of lying on his public disclosure forms? Only time will tell.
It’s not too late to donate to Stevens’ Democratic opponent, Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich. Help put an end to Senator Toobz’s nonsense.
UPDATE: Just when you thought the world of Ted "Toobz" Stevens couldn’t get any crazier: Stevens juror left for horse race, not father’s funeral.

Thanks twolf1
digg
great post twolf1, I hope this gets a fron page at the lake because it is going to be very important for mark to put up an add that disputes what steven’s is saying
mark is going to have to produce it so there is a slot to add after he sees the add, he is going to have to have every scenario pre-written to respond on the fly
if stevens dares to say he is not convicted, mark has to punish him for the lie.
good luck with this one twolf1
I want to remind everyone, I don’t know the process there to pick a senator once Stevens is removed but I believe it will be another republican
democrats are admitting we probably won’t win a filibuster proof majority, this seat is very important and very winnable but stevens is going to make the best case he can make…mark needs to make his case better
As I understand it, the Gov has to call a special election if he is removed. They put the new law in after Murkowski appointed his daughter.
got it
mark needs to have an add to respond to stevens add, I hope he has the money or we can help him raise it
Maybe Palin appoints herself. To “clean up the old boys network” (like Ted).
Oh, but it might be embarassing to have two in a row from Alaska being expelled. Plus she has to run obstruction on investigations in Alaska. I also guess she can groom herself better as whatever she wants to lie about herself as Gov than as an non-effective Senator.
How soon must the special election occur? Maybe it depends on when it happens. Would seem that Palin might be able to appoint an interim Senator before election occurs.
Yuk, maybe the first Dude – so he could push for ceding from the nation.
I just posted a new diary asking if the senator is breaking the law claiming he has not been convicted when he has
if this is a crime then that needs to go on the air following stevens commercial
I’m telling you, Palin will find a way to get Steven’s seat so she can get experience. The fundies want her and there is no other republican that is standing out right now.
She knows Alaskan politics, so she will not sound like a total idiot and she will be back for ‘12. She will make it sound like God called her, or some one will have a vision and say she needs to run.
Please Alaskans do something. Recall her or out vote her.
Keep those ethics reviews coming!
Stevens’ website (Stevens/Inouye statement) says Daniel Inoyue is a “revered Democrat.”
I don’t think having a glossy 8×10 on Rove’s home altar counts. Laughable.
Edward Tellar a commenter at the lake in Alaska is looking to recall Sarah:)
All of us with a more progressive agenda than an Inouye-type “democrat” need to keep up the pressure on Sen. Harry Reid, I like the option of looking up his local Nevada offices on his website and calling them to complain about his failure to be “the boxer” that he was in his youth.
He needs to hear loud and clear that the grassroots have been less than satisfied with his record of leadership so far, and that what we want to see in a future Senate Majority Leader is an effort to make Obama’s Presidency successful FOR ORDINARY DEMOCRATS AND CITIZENS, and that any attention to facilitating any Senator’s dilatory and/or distracting efforts which are not aimed at making an Obama Presidency a time of reform and progress, will bring political consequences for Senator Reid.
PS Why is Obama showing up as a mis-spelling ??? About time to add that one to the FDL dictionary, eh, firepups?
