Joe Lieberman has launched consistent, deeply partisan attacks on President-elect Barack Obama, questioning his patriotism and fitness to lead. While Lieberman campaigned for John McCain and spoke on his behalf at the Republican National Convention, he spread some of the GOP’s nastiest smears. Think Progress has provided thorough evidence of Lieberman’s partisan politics. Lieberman should not be allowed to have subpoena power to investigate the Obama administration as chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. In fact, he should not be allowed to remain chairman of this or any other committee.
Lieberman has proven he cannot be trusted to hold a high rank within the Democratic caucus. That is why we launched Lieberman Must Go last summer, a campaign that caught Congress’ attention when we delivered a petition with over 43,000 signatures. Now, we ask you to help us escalate the pressure by contacting members of the Senate Democratic Steering Committee. Tell them to strip Lieberman of his chairmanship in the Democratic caucus.
We have included a sample script and phone numbers below for you to use, and we ask that you be polite when you explain why Lieberman Must Go.

Joe has to go if Obama does not see this as a priority he will learn. Any bets on how long before Joe betrays Obama if Obama lets him stay?
Yesterday Rachel says to let this behavior go unpunished makes Obama look like a wuss! I think it makes him look naive.

Good Question. Still it should be Obama’s call even with the separation of powers. As for fixing Homeland Security, Obama can do that better than Lieberman. The executive runs the country, not the Senate. If Obama wants to try the politics of forgiveness, why not? If Lieberman screws up again the Dems can re-cacus and hand him his head.

Obama will need to prime the pump to create jobs to stimulate a recovery. Big Oil (with the Republicans and Lieberman) will endeavor to block Obama’s efforts to change the status quo as Obama attempts to move us toward green jobs in wind and solar.

Let us not forget about his support for Norm Coleman and previously Susan Collins. I think that if it is OK for the Dem Steering Committee to not sanction Liarman then they shouldn’t mind if we begin to prepare for primary challenges to them.

He says that compromise is not acceptable. He says if they take his gavel away, he will flee to the welcoming arms of the Republic Party. As if he’s not already there! Will it change the way he votes? Only if he puts self over country! That should be what the Dems say loudly!

The Goopers don’t want him over there. They want him right where he is – inside the other tent, screwing Democrats.
If they took him into their fold, they would be saddled with someone who is still out of step with them on some social issues, and the party would flip the first time he asserts himself.

Failure to sanction Liarman is a slap in the face to all of the thousands of people who have worked for and/or contributed to making america blue.
This whole nonsense over joLIE is ridiculous. He should certainly be out no matter how many dem votes there are. If he stays it will be the same as when the rethugs were able to tap into the dem computer system. Who’s to say that joLIE didn’t make it possible for the repugs to do that?
Also, don’t make excuses for Obama and saying that he is staying out of the Legislative branch running itself. If that were true, he would not have indicated that he wanted joLIE to stay, nor would rahmmie be twisting arms to keep joLIE.

Obama and the Dems will again highlight they don’t have a collective spine and/or they view everything, no matter how damaging to the discourse of this last election, is all some sort of big, funny, game…no matter how much LIEberman angered the rest of us who truly care about political and policy related outcomes.

I will not disagree with the low regard by which Lieberman is above described..
And revenge is not worth it. If the Obama program is to be executed, it needs every iota of energy devoted to getting us to peace, getting us to healthy -physically and economically, diverting the glacier we call education to be effective.
Lieberman has a mandate -he was elected- and so he holds that power. I personally think he was a jerk hoping for the Repub vice-pres slot -his ONLY shot at a future. I am also reasonably certain he is now harmless.
And we need that vote on supremes coming up. I doubt Obama feels vengeance is more important than saving the country. The less energy wasted on trifles [and I consider Lieberman that], the more available for salvation.

You’re right. WTF is Chaney doing laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unkown Soldier when Bushturd is visiting a museum instead of honoring Veterans?
Bush said today, when asked what he’ll miss the most when he’s out of office, and I paraphrase, “I’ll miss the fabulous men and women of our armed forces.” Yeah, right, that’s why he’s at a fucking museum.

sorry wibsmith, I disagree with your entire post, Obama will get FAR less done if Lieberman has power then if he gets Lieberman off all committees of power
I especially disagree with this in particular;
I don’t know what Lieberman you are talking about, he has NO mandate, he lied to his constituents, making promises he broke almost immediately, he did NOT want to get out of Iraq as soon as possible, he was NOT going to “help the democrats get the white house” and he is NOT going to help us get anything
in fact, he will undermine any close votes, when we need him for a deciding vote he will give it to our opponents
he needs to get off the bus and pay his way back on with the votes when WE need them not when the republicans need them
here’s what Lieberman needs to do to get back on this bus;
apologize and say he was flat out wrong when he thought McCain was a better choice then Obama
apologize for his vote for cloture on alito
apologize for a host of other republican votes that undermined our majority
then you might have a point, but even then I doubt it, he is a judas sheep and he WILL lead us to the slaughter, that IS his job
yes, WE are the leaders we are looking for, NOT the leaders pulling our chains.
