The women’s health clinic that was run by Dr. Tiller, the doctor who was murdered in cold blood by domestic terrorist Scott Roeder, will be closed permanently.
Attorneys for the Tiller family released this statement regarding Women’s Health Care Services, Inc.:
The family of Dr. George Tiller announces that effective immediately, Women’s Health Care Services, Inc., will be permanently closed. Notice is being given today to all concerned that the Tiller family is ceasing operation of the clinic and any involvement by family members in any other similar clinic.
We are proud of the service and courage shown by our husband and father and know that women’s health care needs have been met because of his dedication and service. That is a legacy that will never die. The family will honor Dr. Tiller’s memory through private charitable activities. The Tiller family wishes to assure Dr. Tiller’s past patients that the privacy of their medical histories and patient records will remain as fiercely protected now and in the future as they were during Dr. Tiller’s lifetime.
There will be no more statements or comments on behalf of the family on this matter.

When CNN’s Ted Rowlands told Roeder of the clinic’s closure, Roeder said "good." The domestic terrorist claims the closure is "a victory for all the unborn children," and it means "no more slicing and dicing of the unborn child in the mother’s womb and no more needles of poison into the baby’s heart to stop the heart from beating, and no more partial-birth abortions."
Roeder apparently even has fans:
Roeder told CNN he is "feeling good," and getting encouraging letters from people around the country, many of whom he does not know. But he complained about conditions in the jail, saying he doesn’t like being in solitary confinement and that the jail is "freezing."
Roeder is not alone. There are many that feel the way he does. How far will these terrorists go?

Sad.
And disgusting.
Sad and disgusting, but not surprising. If the media continues to refuse to call this domestic terrorism, then what else can we expect?
How many more murders until, as Ross Douthat proposes, we get a sane pro-life movement?
Other doctors are going to have to step up and help patients.

“The Terrorists Have Won”
My sentiments exactly.
Thank you twolf.
Roeder thought first degree murder came with unlimited ice cream and a mint on your pillow, apparently.
This is really sad.
Seconded:(
Anti-choice people everywhere should be shunned regardless of their reasons.
There is no logic in taking away women’s rights in order to promote your own
agenda. IMO

Recognizing that I probably have no right whatsoever to say this – it seems, at the very least an odd, possibly even inappropriate decision for this family to have made.
Frankly, I do not agree that the terrorists have won. They’ve done some significant damage. but now they have to regroup now that they have eliminated their number one target. they don’t know what to do with themselves now.
The family seems to indicate that they will continue support in other ways to continue with the pro choice agenda. Others will rise up to take Dr. Tiller’s place.
I am angry not so much at the weirdo that is Scott Roeder, but outraged at the Machievellian forces which provided him with the target and manipulated his weak mind into taking action. I am angry at “people of God” who seem to have no problem justifying murder if it’s their idea, oh excuse, if it’s God’s idea (acc. to them).
I am stunned at the sight of a protest sign that read “God sent the killer”. I’m sorry. I thought God send the savior of all sinners, not the eliminator.
God bless Dr. Tiller, his family and patients and may they have peace.
They probably don’t want to be used as target practice for some other Kansas nut that comes along.
Can’t say I blame them.
Hi jayt, why do you say ‘inappropriate’?
I would surmise that it makes some sense, except for perhaps some schedules that are disrupted, because Dr. Tiller’s clinic was Ground Zero for all debate/protests etc. There is real danger there.
just curious why you might feel this way.
Also, who could they leave Dr. Tiller’s job to? I’m sure it would be impossible to find someone non-family to take over the place.
apologies if this was posted earlier at the Lake
Closed clinic leaves anti abortion protesters at a loss.
I only say inappropriate” (and might have better said “disappointing”) because it seems such a clear and concise signal to those who killed the doctor that they did in fact win.
And I’m fully cognizant that I have no place whatsoever in substituting my judgment or feelings re fighting back upon a traumatized family.
SHIT!!
Woman’s right to the sanctity of Her own body has been taken away from her by the Terrorist!!
What has become of our country?? Will we ever learn?? Seems the fundies are always intruding into private matters.
egregious had VA voting update, upstairs!

Thanks. Hope you know I was just inquiring, nothing more. Just wanted to understand your POV.
Thank you for the link to “I am Dr Tiller,” twolf1. It is hopeful to read the testaments of the men and women carrying on his work with care and compassion.

They closed one clinic.
They murdered a human that was beloved by many.
They unleashed a flood of support for what’s right, and women’s rights.
They put so much heat on their movement(s) that the FBI and other agencies are now protecting other clinics, people. The PRESIDENT has ordered this.
They pissed off the President, Of The United States.
They pissed off the people of the United States.
I’d say, this is the tipping point for the backlash I’ve been waiting for for a long, long time.
Now is the time to press these issues, at every point possible, in every way.
Do NOT let idle comments pass by, call them for what they are, in your daily lives.
And now it’s time to call upon advertisers who support hate media, from Rush to Hannity.
It’s time to call church based non-profits out for abusing their status politically, and for inciting fear and violence in their congregations.
The terrorists, in this case the domestic one’s, didn’t win squat.
They set themselves up like the GOP, and shot themselves in the process.
They will be eating our *hit from here on out.
They WILL be held accountable, punished, and forsaken for what they truly are.
They have it coming to them, too.
They didn’t win shit.
I would agree entirely with everything you say.
The unfortunate thing is, once Britney does something positively insane during a road show, this story will drop from the media and everyone will go on with no further discussion.
We are easily distracted with ’shiny’ things and the vast majority of this country is operating on a fourth grade education (and still can’t pass fourth grade level reading tests).
I would love to believe that this is a tipping point; a triggering event that brings this whole women’s rights thing to a close.
There will be no equal protection amendment to the Constitution on this event. As long as women are second class citizens with total strangers making decisions about our care, this story will go on, and on, and on.
I would love to think this event would be the end of this part of our society that believes they have all the answers. But it won’t.
Well put! IMO there is nothing conservative about an anti-choice position. This intrusion into the privacy of women is old fashion tyranny at the hands of moralizers and sexist. A choice made by a woman is her’s and her’s alone and individuals who fail understand and instead would impose “religious doctrine” on an atheist or agnostic, under the color of law, does not get it!! Simply put!! “Mind your own probably, most likely, hypocritical business!”
