The following interviews took place at the Columbus, OH stop on Sarah Palin’s Going Rogue book promotion tour. This is the GOP base and the ignorance is stunning (but not unexpected). Thank you Fox News.

On November 20, 2009, Sarah Palin visited Columbus, OH as part of her book signing tour for "Going Rogue." When her supporters were asked broad questions about why they why they thought she should be president, the responses were vague: She’s "real." She’ll "stick up for America."
THERE ARE UNINFORMED OBAMA SUPPORTERS, TOO
It has been said in comments that we would find similarly talking point-driven, substance-less supporters at an Obama rally, and we agree. But no politician has emerged on the national stage as undefined and unqualified as Sarah Palin, and her public persona–which is anti-intellectual by definition–discourages substance. Instead, we get winking. One could hardly imagine her giving a complex speech about race in America, or speaking eloquently about our country’s relations with Islam. Not just because she couldn’t write such a speech (Obama has speech-writers, of course) but because she wouldn’t–such necessarily academic discussion is antithetical to the persona she’s created for herself and that her supporters have come to love.CHERRY-PICKING
As for accusations of cherry picking, which are commonly thrown at interview-based videos, it simply isn’t what we did. We interviewed only a few more people than ended up in the video, not hundreds, and what was cut was done for time purposes. The people were selected at random–some offered to be interviewed–and we were only there for about 90 mins (it gets dark early and fast in Ohio right now). What didn’t make it into the video was just more footage of people talking generically or about taxes/spending, drilling, and abortion, and we constructed blocks in the piece to represent those issues. Of course the piece was edited to be entertaining (this is YouTube, after all, where the currency is cat videos) but we don’t believe we misrepresented the attitudes of the people at that signing in any way.

These are the same types of comments I heard when I interviewed protesters of health care reform. I asked what kind of health care they had. Of course a lot of them said, “Medicare.” They love it. “Why shouldn’t all of us have this sort of program, why not me?” They said (basically) “We would have to share. There would be less for me.”
Morans.
Bottom Line: we’re stupid, but that’s OK, because we’re white.

Wow…just wow.
Instead of researching history and current events (no, FOX doesn’t count…nor does CNN or MSNBC, etc. etc.), too many people cling to a view-point handed down from their parents or their social circle, or from some quasi-authoritative figurehead like Limbaugh without ever stopping to THINK for THEMSELVES. Why are we shocked that they gravitate to the lowest common denominator, eloquentially-challenged politician who verbalizes what they feel.
The interviewer did a great job getting these dimwits to reveal themselves for what they are.
Kudos to the interviewer for being neutral, yet probing and non-snarky.
Good job exposing the bone-deep ignorance about anything Sarah Palin actually believes or has accomplished, or even thinks is a good idea. I didn’t hear one person say anything in that regard, except for “drill, baby, drill.” Yet they all seemed to think she would make a great Leader of the Free World.
Ladies and gentlemen, that’s how GWB got elected. Twice, and even apart from the corrupted elections process in Florida and Ohio.
With all due respect bgrothus, here’s a little free advice: if you want to call someone a MORON, please spell it correctly; otherwise you end up undermining your righteous flame-throwing credibility. Thanks, and keep up the good work.

The wisdom of these people expresses everything that is wrong with this Country.
They vote and have supported the very parties and people that have just about distroyed this Country.
These people think being consevative is King, but the Conservatives have been this Countries biggest problem, if they were able to read and comprehend HISTORY they might be able to see what they have caused.

Uhh, I myself haven’t been on this site too long but apparently you haven’t noticed that there is a healthy skepticism of both parties as well as Obama here.

Thanks for posting. I live about 2 miles from this Borders. I was so thankful that my daughter came home and shared some very intelligent political insights after seeing your post.
And we were so smart to elect Obama who’s intelligence has led him to keep all of his campaign promises, or just the opposite.

Problem is that most people just don’t have the time or inclination to inform themselves, regardless of whether FOX news exists. If FOX were gone tomorrow you can bet that some other corporatist with money to burn would immediately step into the void.
Until things get so bad that the ‘average American’ is ready to take to the streets in protest nothing will change. Our country will continue on its current course. Just look at Obama – meet the new boss, same as the old boss. I had my doubts about him, but never in my worst nightmares did I think we’d end up with Bush44.
