On September 8th, 2011, President Obama proposed the American Jobs Act. It was a crappy bill, with a tiny target for jobs, mostly to be “gained” via the continued magic of more and more tax cuts, but it did contain an extension of federal unemployment benefits, the “Emergency Unemployment Compensation” of 2008, although the Extended Benefits for the hardest-hit states were pretty much eliminated.
Now, we’re in the middle of an election campaign, and millions of Americans are still unemployed. (Raises hand.) Unemployment may be “down” to 7.8% in the headline U-3 category (not counting the broader measures available, and ignoring how the BLS’s vastly-accelerated policy of redefining millions of Americans out of the workforce has has made the numbers look better), but it will still almost certainly finish over 8% for the fourth consecutive year. Prior to Obama, unemployment had never been over 8% for even THREE consecutive years. (Reagan had a really bad 1981-1982, but while he claimed not to care if somebody in “South Succotash” was unemployed, he got the rate down to 7.5% by 1983.)
And yet…even with re-election on the line, this “Democratic” President of ours has not proposed any jobs bills, despite it now being over a month closer to year-end than when he proposed the AJA last year.. Nor has he even called for the extension of unemployment benefits, which means that thousands, perhaps millions, of Americans who still have eligibility on their claims will lose what could be their sole income, months ahead of schedule. (Raises hand, again.) Nor, obviously, have any of his fellow assholes, er, “Democrats” in Congress.
Never in our history have federal unemployment benefits not been offered when UI stands at 7.2% or above. Until Barack Obama, the Most Effective Evil this country has ever, foolishly, elected.
Fuck you, asshole. “Party of the people”, my eye. Your party is as dead as I’m going to be (soon enough). I only regret that I won’t live to see you become the laughingstock you deserve to be.

New COLA will be between 1.5 and 1.7 %. That’s for a year. Inflation was 2% for food in one month, that being in August. VoteSocialist, thanks for thinking and speaking about the unemployed. You inspire me to do more.
Very much like the Time Machine, H.G. Wells book, where the Eloi slept through being victimized by the Morlocks who came during the night and easily seized their prey.
Thanks for caring, votesocialist!
Sorry I forgot to put in the link for the COLA info:
HERE IS THE LINK
Socialist your last paragraph says it all.Its kinda liberatig and makes you feel good for a few minutes to just proclaim to Obumbler to go fuck himself. At least it does for me.Thanks for caring also.
20% unemployment for younger Veterans, 20-24 years of age. Politicians were pathetic on this one.

Very nice diary. Its nice to know that others see the major issues of this election being ignored while the ‘seperate parties’ argue over tastes great, less filling. I couldn’t agree more with your assessment of the Dimcompoops, the sooner they are in the dustbin of history the sooner an actual opposition party may arise.
The CPI which forms the basis for the COLA is fudged. And the real rate of unemployment is much higher than the reported rates. John Williams at shadowstats.com has the U-6 at 22%. If I believed the courtier’s report from the Capitol I would probably wonder if I was losing it.
Vote Socialist, the DNC don’t give a shit about the unemployed, remember it’s both the Dems & the GOP that implemented the policies that put us in this mess.
In addition take a look at whom the leaders of the Dems are, they are wealthy people(1%)wealthy people can’t relate to how we ordinary people struggle.
Therefor we should vote for Jill, Rocky, or Stewart. It will not be enough, but it will be a good start to build from.
Recommended. Temporarily forgot this is another of the missing in action from Obama’s campaign mentionables. At least he isn’t publicly in favor of reducing and cutting back on unemployment benefits (though in his heart I’m sure he is), like how he is on Social Security.
THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT BE DOING A JOB BILL, PERIOD.
The Federal Government should however, be insisting that they be repaid the 7+ trillions of dollars that was “loaned” to the Too Big to Fail financial crowd. With that money, the states should all be equally given monies according to population density and what not. Then the states should be required to re-hire every person they have furloughed, or laid off, or put into part time status.
The Federal Government is very lousy at figuring out where money should go. But the states have a better handle on it.
Once the states do the re-hires, then the economy will recover, as people working at the fire department or Social Services, or the school will be eating lunch, buying news shoes, and re-hiring their old housekeeper Plus they will be able to become consumers again.
Would this ever ever happen in an election year? Of course not – the Same Too Big To Fail crowd that got the trillions has offered up billions as campaign contributions to make sure the whole issue is swept under the rug. Doesn’t matter which banner a candidate is running under: both the “D”s and the “R”s are very happy people that are more worried about contraception and the abortion issue than matters that really count. (When I hear my women friends treating Obama like a hero because he will continue to “allow” women their reproductive health rights, I want to throw up. It’s sort of like saying Obama is a hero because he will still let us wear shoes, or not require us to wear our underpants on our heads.)
You think Rick Perry, Rick Scott and Scott Walker are better at figuring out where money should go than the federal government? I don’t. I also think the “states’ rights” mantra generally means “feudalism.”
