There’s a good article on WSWS about a new development within the leadership of Iran’s neoliberal PR campaign aka the "Green Revolution". The big three are playing kiss and make up with the legitimate leadership of Iran. Curious timing, wouldn’t you say? This past October, 5 Republican Guard leaders and 37 others were killed by a suicide bomber in southern Iran. The attack has been claimed by the Jundallah terrorists in Iran who are working for “regime change”. Robert Baer gives us a little insight into Jundallah.
A former Central Intelligence Agency officer has confirmed US’ relations with the terrorist group Jundullah, despite the CIA knowing that the group has close links with the al-Qaeda. PressTv
A former Jundullah member said this;
US officials have repeatedly confirmed that the government has secretly encouraged and advised Jundallah as it fights the Iranian government. But Rigi insisted the US ties went well beyond encouragement.
Not long after severing its ties with al-Qaeda, the group started a relationship with the United States government.
That fact has never been disputed, indeed Rigi insisted that five years ago when the relationship began the US government gave the group $100,000 and promised to provide it with “everything we needed.” He also claimed that the US was directing the group’s attacks, saying “they told us whom to shoot and whom not to. All orders came from them.” AntiWar
The CIA and other pro-neoliberal elements of the US have had their hand in stirring the Iranian pot for some time now. But it looks like they failed. The “color revolution” in Iran like the “Orange Revolution” before it, was a complete contrivance cooked up by the regime-change ”centrist” war-mongers here in America. Staged hangings, attacks on Iranian police, fraudulent “tweets” coming out of other countries… it was all a fraud aided by a very small group of people within Iran who wanted to bring neoliberal free-market reforms to Iran and it failed. The ad agencies PR war was a flop. So I guess there is only one course left to take; send in the dogs of war.
The Green opposition has been hailed by all sections of the bourgeois political establishment in the US and Europe, including the left, as a “democratizing” movement. In fact it speaks for powerful elements within Iran’s bourgeois-clerical establishment who bitterly oppose the populist policies that Ahmadinejad—who came to power as the result of a popular backlash against the neo-liberal policies implemented under Khatami and before him Rafsanjani—pursued during his first term as president. They denounce Ahmadinejad for squandering the proceeds of the 2005-08 oil boom on price subsidies and social spending and for pursuing a needlessly confrontational policy toward the US. WSWS
Other recent international events mainly involving the United States, have caused an unexpected turn in the leadership of the phony Green Revolution of Iran. It would seem that with popular anger developing against the pending sanctions, the last thing the bourgeois leadership of the contrived movement want is to be caught on the wrong side of the battle lines when the sh-t hits the fan. That’s probably a wise move for them and an unexpected one for their CIA and pro-business NGO’s here in the states.
Mohammad Khatami, Iran’s president from 1997 to 2004 and one of the principal sponsors of Mousavi’s election campaign, issued an even more conciliatory statement. “The reform movement and I personally,” wrote Khatami, “recognize the current administration of Mr. Ahmadinejad, but we must combat extremism.”
This past week, Medhi Karroubi, a former speaker of Iran’s parliament, a defeated candidate in the 2005 and 2009 presidential elections, and the third in the troika of Green leaders, issued a series of statements acknowledging Ahmadinejad as Iran’s president and declaring the supreme leader or guardian of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Khamanei, the “best person” to solve the current political crisis.
Karroubi said slogans that called into question Khamanei’s leadership, the post of supreme leader or velayat-e faghih, and other key institutions of the Islamic Republic “are 100 percent wrong.” “I don’t agree with slogans that call for changing power structures.”
He also condemned the right-wing, pro-US slogan taken up by opposition demonstrators on several occasions, most notably on Iran’s traditional day of solidarity with the Palestinian people—“Neither Gaza, nor Lebanon. My life is for Iran.”
Karroubi, it need be noted, had until last week been the most strident of the three Green leaders. WSWS
The “Green Revolution” or the Twitter Revolution has failed and the populist president of the country has won. Now a different phase of the regime change program in Iran is about to take place. Now the globalists like Hillary Clinton and Robert Kagan, a “progressive” and a “neocon” working side by side will enforce a sanction policy on the people of Iran which will be crippling to their economy and their lives. But just like the phony Green Revolution before it, this neoliberal “plot and plan” has no consideration for the damage it will cause to the innocent people of the nation. They may pay some lip service to that end, but ultimately what they are doing is holding the innocent people of Iran hostage till the government caves in and allows the bankers that run the Obama administration into their country. It’s funny really; some people might call that “terrorism”.
Regime change is more important than any deal the Obama administration might strike with Iran’s present government on its nuclear program. Even if Tehran were to accept the offer made last year to export some of its low-enriched uranium, this would be a modest step down a long, uncertain road. Such a minor concession is not worth abandoning the push for real change. Robert Kagan
In a long diatribe against both Iran and China, Clinton declared that it was time to “move away from the engagement track” and apply more sanctions against Iran. She warned that China would face diplomatic isolation and disruptions to its energy supply.
Clinton made the threats at a speech at the French war college, following a meeting in which US and French officials drafted a new round of sanctions they hoped to push through the UN Security Council. AntiWar
So I guess “engagement” (is that what they are calling CIA covert ops these days?) didn’t work for the old globalist battle-ax Clinton and now it’s time to spin up the “existential threat” or the “WMDs” rhetoric. Again, some people might say that using sanctions to target the civilians in Iran is treading extremely closely to state sponsored terrorism. But ex-President Clinton has a pre-made definition that takes care of that for us. In truly Orwellian new-speak, Bill Clinton recently gave his definition in an interview.
Terror mean[s] killing and robbery and coercion by people who do not have state authority and go beyond national borders. Bill Clinton, 2010
There you have it. As long as the “state” authorises “killing and robbery and coercion” then it’s ok… it’s not terrorism. And since his WIFE is the head of the “State” department, I suppose what Hillary is pressing for is just fine and dandy. I wonder what Bill Clinton thinks its called when you kill and rob and coerce people inside your national borders?
Oh yeah, that’s called “globalization”.
Well, strap in and hang on, boys and girls. All these pro-empire incursions of the Obama administration are about to become yesterday’s news. Since China has already staked out their position this little embargo of Shillary’s is going to have dire consequences for the vast majority of the American people. It’s a good thing Bush and Obama handed off so much of our money to their favorite companies and wealthy elites. At least we don’t have to worry about them suffering from the pending dollar crisis that will certainly follow China dropping ‘em like hot potatoes. At least we know the banks have enough money to survive, right? So the American way of life will be preserved.
So go ahead Hillary and Bill… get together with your other neocon buddies like Robert Kagan and set the stage for an invasion of Iran for no other reason than regime change. We know there are no WMDs so there is no use in wasting valuable time and resources spinning up those lies. The Obama revolution will support whatever he does for the next year or so anyway no matter how Bushovian it is. They will always find a way to justify their Obama-love. So go ahead and spin-up world war III based on even more lies and deception. It’s not like we learned anything during the Bush terms.
Well, at least, nothing we can’t forget in service to Obama.
Barack Obama is a brand. And the Obama brand is designed to make us feel good about our government while corporate overlords loot the Treasury, armies of corporate lobbyists grease the palms of our elected officials, our corporate media diverts us with gossip and trivia, and our imperial wars expand in the Middle East. Brand Obama is about being happy consumers. We are entertained. We feel hopeful. We like our president. We believe he is like us. But like all branded products spun out from the manipulative world of corporate advertising, this product is duping us into doing and supporting a lot of things that are not in our interest. Have we learned nothing in our meddling in Iran?
I am just reading this with my mouth hanging open. Are you being facetious, Willyloman? (I woke up with NO sense of humor this AM so I may be missing your tongue in cheek. Please forgive me) In the first place, why would you say that the Green Movement has failed? The Twitter phase has all but waned away (last I checked), but the movement continues to evolve and progress. And apparently, grow. My first thought is how, early on, the (Communist) MEK tried to insinuate itself into the Green Movement. (at first as some sort of “ally” but when that didn’t work, using whatever happened at Ashraf- I’ve forgotten what that was) The Greens were & AFAIK, are having none of it. Could it be they’re trying to destabilize the situation (ie by way of this article) further in hopes of a better opportunity to gain a toehold? It wouldn’t surprise me. Third, Jundallah is a separate movement from the Greens- there is no connection, despite any that the IRI might try to accuse them of. (I think PressTV has accused this. PBS & Tehran Bureau have done pieces about it- possibly Payvand) There were (& I’m sure still are) several factions/ ethnic groups trying to hook on to the Greens. The “problem” is that the latter are determinedly pacifist & refuse to get mixed up with violence. The Pahlavists have also attempted to join in & I’m not sure that the Shah’s son isn’t sincere, but he doesn’t seem to be so welcome, either. The IRI has accused the Greens of being a “color revolution”. I guess it could have started out that way. I don’t think much of Moussavi (I think he is an agitator & a chickenshit) and if HE were being somehow funded by the CIA, I probably wouldn’t be surprised. But the people- the meat of the Green Movement, is the people of Iran. It stopped being about him and the failed “election” a long time ago. If they have any real “leader” at all, it is Mehdi Karroubi. (I need to dig further because I haven’t read anything- yet, that would indicate that he is backing down)
It’s my opinion that nuclear weapons are a red herring. In spite of Ahmadinejad’s religious fanaticism, it would be insane (is he THAT crazy?) to nuke Israel & destroy Iran in the process and 2. if there were really such a fevered push. unemployment in Iran wouldn’t be nearly as bad as it is.
That’s just my simple minded, face value take on the situation, FWIW.
Iran is not going to back down. They are well with in their rights to enrich uranium. There is “no hard evidence” to prove they are enriching beyond the agreements. Israel does not care they want Iran’s ass.
The Obama administration continues to do Israel and the Israeli lobbies bidding even as Netanyahu announces the expansion of more illegal settlements.
Have you read Scott Ritter’s “Target Iran” A must read.
Flynt and Hillary Mann Leverett’s latest take on the situation with Iran

Notwithstanding the denials of “friends” of the Obama Administration at the time, we are now seeing public confirmation that U.S. policy is now going exactly in the direction we said it would. On the sanctions front, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared in a speech at the École Militaire in Paris late last week that China faces “diplomatic isolation” if it does not support the Obama Administration’s proposals for tougher sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program. We have argued for a long time that the Obama Administration’s approach to dealing with China regarding Iran is incoherent, divorced from Beijing’s interests, and grounded in an assessment of the balance of power between China and the United States that no longer reflects reality. But Secretary Clinton’s speech put these deficiencies in the Administration’s approach in graphic relief, for all the world to see.
Secretary Clinton’s statement about China facing “diplomatic isolation” if it did not tow the American line on sanctions came during the same week that China’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, He Yafei, called in the U.S. Ambassador in Beijing, John Huntsman, to note that the Obama Administration’s decision to move forward with major new arms sales to Taiwan “constitutes a gross intervention into China’s internal affairs, seriously endangers China’s national security and harms China’s peaceful reunification efforts”. Huntsman was told that the United States would be responsible for “serious repercussions” if it did not reverse the decision . Additionally, China cancelled a number of planned military-to-military exchanges with the United States. And, just in case the Obama Administration failed to pick up on those signals of Chinese unhappiness, Beijing also announced that it was considering imposing sanctions on the Chinese operations of American companies involved in supplying products for the arms sales to Taiwan.
The folly of Secretary Clinton’s proposition that China will face “diplomatic isolation” if it does not fall in line with American proposals for new sanctions against Iran—which include bans on new energy investments in and gasoline exports to the Islamic Republic—was demonstrated in her own comments following her speech in Paris. Addressing the Chinese in absentia, she said
Hope folks push that “recommend” button above. Great post
the Green revolution has withered and died on the vine. Once the people of Iran found out they were being lied to about the “hijacking” of their election, the neoliberal backed “Greens” started losing control. They pushed for more attention, but what happened was, they exopsed themselves as a buisness class neoliberal reform friendly movement that thought it could “spin” it’s way into power. Turns out, the people of Iran are smarter than the “Greens” thought.
Now we are faced with the only other option for regime change… the sanctions/ military option. Which explains why the “Green” leaders are backing away: becaus they know the populist backlash will be very bad in the next few months
are you saying that the election wasn’t rigged?

If her Iranian sanctions kill 500,000 innocent Iranian children, she will say, like her AIPAC approved Sec. State Albright before her,
“I think that is a very hard choice, but the price, we think, the price is worth it.”
I mentioned a controversy that had enveloped aipac in 1992. David Steiner, a New Jersey real-estate developer who was then serving as aipac’s president, was caught on tape boasting that he had “cut a deal” with the Administration of George H. W. Bush to provide more aid to Israel. Steiner also said that he was “negotiating” with the incoming Clinton Administration over the appointment of a pro-Israel Secretary of State. “We have a dozen people in his”—Clinton’s—“headquarters . . . and they are all going to get big jobs,” Steiner said.

I was just listening to a lecture by former Air Force-CIA intermediary Fletcher Prouty last night.
He said that the oil embargo of the 70′s was a scam that the U.S. was in on to permanently jack up oil prices.
He also said that the war against Lebanon in ’83 was about shutting down oil pipelines that jacked up the price of oil.
He said that the U.S. supported both sides in the Iran-Iraq war to jack up the price of oil.
Both Iraq wars had significant inflationary effects on the price of oil, as has the past 7 years of tension with Iran.
If Israel and the U.S. want to invade Iran, I suspect that the price and control of oil plays no small role. Jewish interests have no small stake in oil companies.
Not to mention Iran’s possible role in threatening the Anglo-American Establishment’s rapidly increasing control over the global economy.
If Iran feeds plenty of oil to China and Russia, regional and global hegemony are twarted.
It’s never bigotry because it just isn’t.

She did that long ago. Had to to run in New York. But flipped long before that…only way to get ahead in D.C.
Senator Clinton laid it out plainly enough.
Anyone who doubts SoS Clinton would not step up in front of AIPAC and repeat this speech is very slow on the pick up. We know Barack Obama has been rolled and politically taken out. Only asking now bend over how far?
Has the CIA been meddling in Iran in ways that remain cloaked while WashingtonDC plays the propaganda organs loud with all stops pulled?
Given post WW2 CIA history and record this question deserves a yes answer.
Here in early 2010 WashingtonDC must be feeling it’s oats again with reports of the USN proceeding to make the Persian Gulf a hostile place or zone pointed at Iran.
Since when did the Gulf of Mexico stand next to the Persian Gulf?
One need not imagine too much how WashingtonDC would react to Iran sending and putting on station several large warships into Gulf of Mexico.
Israel’s occupation of West Bank and taking of Jerusalem will need to be stopped and rolled back. Israel’s open air Gaza prison declared to be the full violation of human rights it is and Israel brought to heel and punished for it’s brutal occupation conduct and wanton destruction of Gaza and killing of Gazans whether with bullets and bombs or keeping out food,medicines and humanitarian aid.
Israel is has become a monster and WashingtonDC has become fully incapable of the politics needed and required to cage this Israeli monster.
Israel clearly is seeking to cripple Iran and as seen with Lebanon,Palestine and Iraq this is the goal of war criminals.
Israel is sowing it’s doom and refuses to face it.
WashingtonDC having made a mockery of conquest war in Iraq with that debacle still unfolding will surely be very mistaken in messing with Iran.
Barack Obama has been castrated in by Israel and as seen in the video BW put up here SoS Clinton clearly has problems with whose flag she salutes.
The CIA should be shut down and dismantled. The Pentagon put on half rations of budget/funding and Israel’s agents kicked out of WashingtonDC.
What will happen is the opposite of the above. The demons will rejoice.
Clinton’s years in office was when the floodgates opened for the Zionists.
The State Deoartment is riddeled with Israeli spy’s, everyone knows it, and nobody seems to care.
Well, it doesn’t get mmuch worse than passing legislation where we guarantee Israel’s security. That was done right after the massacre in Gaza. Nice, eh? So, I can assume that American kids will be dying on the battlefield for Israel.directly. Hard to believe. The US gives Israel billions of dollars flat out, billions of weapons for free amd we get nothing back but worlswide hatred. It’s a big screw off.
Americans are getting squeezed further by cuttinjg social security so why the hell don’t the Israeli’s start paying US taxes. It we can go to war for them, shit, no wonder they think we’re stupid fools. It also doesn’t help that nobody EVER mentions our arrangements with Israel.
The worst offense the turn a blind eye to is when Isaeli spy’s un government steal our technological secrets, reverse engineer it, and sell it on the market for less, putting Americans out of work. That exact scenario happened to a guy I know, but in his case the Israeli’s undercut his employer so much the company went bankrupt. Still nobody cares.
The people in our government HAVE GONE BATSHIT CRAZY. They haven’t been straight with us for years. They deserve to be in prison for conspiracy against America with foreign government. Just because they pass a law they think they’re vindicated. Bullshit.
“Steiner also said that he was “negotiating” with the incoming Clinton Administration over the appointment of a pro-Israel Secretary of State. “We have a dozen people in his”—Clinton’s—“headquarters . . . and they are all going to get big jobs,” Steiner said.”

You have to wonder who they placed in Obama’s administration. Did AIPAC place Rahm, like he was placed in Clinton’s White House? What about Joe “I’m a Zionist” Biden as VP? What about Hillary as Sec State? What about Axelrod?
You have to wonder where it starts, and where it ends. Orzag?

It’s very sad, the aggression against Iran. They don’t have to be enemies of the US, not at all.
I know, Seymour, I know. The whole “death to America” chant at all the official rallies is just the Iranian government’s way of flirting with us.

So which country comes after Iran on Israel’s hit list?
And where would you like to see Israel draw it’s final borders (if anywhere)?
If you haven’t been told how to answer these questions yet, I totally understand…
phhhht
so what? ~~~EDITED FOR CONTENT~~~
have the Iranians run over any American college students with bulldozers?
I don’t think so.
when has the nation of Iran last attacked anyone?
it is denial and projection on the geopolitical stage, driven by paranoia and ethno-religious hatred not seen in an ostensible civilized nation state since the demise of your ally, Apartheid South Africa.
~~~ModNote: Stating your point does not require flaming the author.~~~
Actually sporky, Dec 29 they decided to attack, run over, and most thoroughly kill someone.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-CLL3WOJ_U
before that, the Iranian regime killed plenty of people in the streets.
then they put people in prison and killed a hundred or so more.
but that’s ……. O K???
read carefully, move your lips if you have to, “an American college student.” only one international pariah runs over American college students with bulldozers.
and to clarify my earlier question – when has the Iranian government last declared aggressive war against another nation-state?
Saddam Hussein, your last designated enemy, alleges Iran shelled Iraqi territory and he invaded in response, but few still believe the propaganda from that foul regime.
and so, you advocate and issue apologia for UN defiant aggression against Iran because of the december 29th incident? that is your best case? ok, you can stand down, folks can decide for themselves how convincing that is.
that’s just an inane distinction. the Iranian’s deliberately ran over one of their own.
you asked and the answer stared you in the face.
shrug it off if you will.
the Canadian journalist that the Iranians imprisoned and raped and beat to death count or wasn’t she American?
http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/kazemi/
such touching concern for the death of a journalist in military custody, in 2003.
normal, sane, decent people condemn all such horrible, inhumane mistreatment of human beings.
highly selective condemnation of tactics also used extensively, chronically, systemically by your own state is denial and projection, widely used by garden variety psychopaths and transparently obvious to the world community now, in regards to the nasty apartheid situation on the Mediterranean there.
Time for a new party.
For where it starts, you might want to look into the drug war. The Clinton administration also oversaw a big ballooning of that debauchal. That’s where I started when one of my scouts asked me why pot was illegal. I didn’t have an answer for her, so I looked it up. Here is a good site if you’re interested,
http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ww3/index.shtml#top
I liked fromthewilderness’ Mike Rupert’s attitude of “when they start shooting, run towards them.”
Of course no one has actually shot at me, I have a more girl scouty approach of having verbal arguments with public officials in their offices, over the phone or on line. That doesn’t usually lead to shootings, but I have been poisoned and attacked in other ways.
When I realized the drug war was a religion/race war, I figured we could end it. Girl scouts have skills for that sort of thing. Then I realized it was global. That means if we can end it, WE CAN END WAR GLOBALLY. You can get a lot of people to buy into an idea like that if you can convince them it is actually doable.
Catherine Austin Fitts put together two and two economically. Anybody who wonders if people like us really are attacked (not just paranoid “loons”) should just read her story.
Checking the google, I just learned that she has been poisoned with lead or arsenic. That can be very serious, I bet it is messing up her life big time. Here’s a reference if you want to learn more about her,
http://www.drugwar.com/catherineaustinfittsindex.shtm
Back to your topic, I never did figure out what the zionist connection is to the drug war, but I sure know there is one.
Zionists also have something to do (less directly) with nukes and (more directly) with espionage. I figure the amazing and well documented zionist super spying ability has a lot to do with US lawmakers completely herd-like behavior on all votes having to do with Israel. Such unity is unnatural and is produced by strong forces like black mail or involvement in illegal cover ups.
Maybe the dominate military stance we own, due to our excessive nukes and proven track record of using them, is allowing us to control the very lucrative illegal drug trade. The profits of which are completely necessary for propping our ‘economy’ and government (war) funding. Just a guess, I don’t know.
Catherine would know, IF she is still capable. They have a million ways of taking us down, especially our leaders.
Hoqw is it that I knew you would be the one defending the snactions against Iran, macaquerman?
Do you think they chanted “death to America” at the million person candle-light vigil they held for the victims of 9/11?
“Actually sporky, Dec 29 they decided to attack, run over, and most thoroughly kill someone.”
Oh yeah, Rachel Corrie. That was horrible, ran her over with a armored Cat bulldozer because she was a peace activist. Horrible story…
But that was Israel, and we are talking about Iran.
I know they both start with an “I” and it’s easy to get them mixed up sometimes. Do it all the time myself.
Oh look, the article you link to contains quotes from International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, a neoliberal pro-business regime-change in Iran focused NGO.
Who wouldn’t thunk that? Especially in an article appearing in the New York Times. You don’t think the New York Times could be influenced by anyone who wants to promote regime change in Iran, do you? I mean, after all, they were so neutral and unbiased in the run-up to the illegal invastion of Iraq.
Thanks for playing. Try again.
