How do you think Obama should try and improve his slumping approval rating? You think he should scrap the mandatory insurance scam and support the single-payer idea that most Americans want? Do you think maybe he should stop running interference for the most criminally corrupt and undemocratic administration we ever had in this country, the Bush administration? Do you think perhaps he could actually close gitmo or try and scale back the CIA death-drone attacks on civilian populations in Pakistan? Maybe he should stop cow-towing to Wall Street and the bankers from the Federal Reserve, the IMF, and the World Bank?
Any of those might be a good idea but neocon Daniel Pipes has an even better one; Obama should bomb Iran.
“Just as 9/11 caused voters to forget George W. Bush’s meandering early months, a strike on Iranian facilities would dispatch Obama’s feckless first year down the memory hole and transform the domestic political scene,” he writes. Raw Story
That’s right. Just like 9/11 made things all rosy for George Bush standing on that pile of debris (bespecled with bits and pieces of the fallen firefighters) with a bullhorn in his hand, Daniel Pipes thinks that another illegal incursion into yet another nation would be just the thing to get all those angry liberals back on his side. Blow up another democracy. Inflict regime change in a democratic nation and hand over their banking system to the network of privately owned central banks. That’s just want the masses want.
What gets me is that people like this aren’t taken outside and locked up in the stockades and pissed on by passers-by for suggesting we sacrifice the lives of U.S. soldiers and Iranian civilians alike for nothing more than political advantage. There was a time in this country when many pundits and politicians would have thought this same thing, but none of them would dare to have written it down for fear of an angry mob with torches and pitch-forks. But in todays neocon/neoliberal/DLC/Blue Dogs dominated “New Dems” atmosphere… that statement just might win Daniel Pipes the next Peace Prize.
It’s hard to get angry at the guy because he’s right.
All they need is another false flag op and even the peace activists will be out front of the march on Tehran. Give ‘em another Gulf of Tonkin or U.S.S. Liberty event and watch Obama’s numbers go through the roof just like Georgie Boy’s did after 9/11. Pipes certainly has a point there. Remember when that Code Pink leader got behind the Afghani “surge”? What was her excuse? Oh, yeah… women’s rights. Continue with the illegal occupation and the killing of innocent civilians because the Taliban isn’t up to date on women’s rights. Yeah, that makes sense.
You see? It won’t take much. Hell, everyone stopped talking about President Obama’s drone strikes in Yemen that killed 23 kids just four days later when Umar Fizzlepants put on his “sparkler of doom” show. And let’s face it, the ObamaDLC propaganda mills like HuffPo, the Daily Obama, and Think Passively will continue to drum up support for Obama no matter what he does. They will have Gen. Betrayus on 24/7 if they have to… just so long as their owners keep getting those juicy “Guest Pundit” paychecks from MSNBC and their books keep moving off the shelves. Well, I guess that is a more pragmatic choice than say standing up to the war machine like Phil Donahue did. See what it got him? He was out and “Countdown Iraq’ was born.
“Countdown Iraq”. Funny huh? Now that show just goes by the name “Countdown” and it just happens to be the favorite vehicle for the “progressive” blog leaders to get a little face time and a paycheck.
So yeah. Though he doesn’t get any points for tact he is probably correct. Give Obama just a little reason (maybe say another of those lovely recording from “bin Laden™” saying “Whatever you do, don’t look for me in Iran cus I’m not there. Allah be praised“) (psst. IntelCenter guys. If you use that idea, I want my cut and if I don’t get it I’ll sue. I swear to God I’ll sue) and watch how fast the anti-war left jumps back on the imperialist bandwagon all in the name of the great and mighty Obama™ product.
Yes it’s tasteless and it’s tacky and it’s borderline evil. All that I am sure you can find on all the other pro-Obama sales-pitch sights. But the truth is… get ready for it… strap in… here it comes… I mean it… the truth is, Daniel Pipes is right.
He may be a sick f-ck and a criminal, but at least he’s honest. (well, about this he’s honest. He lies through his teeth every single day about things like WMDs in Iran and such)
Hell of a world ain’t it?

Bomb bomb bomb…
I saw a short piece on wonkette about this and I thought it was a joke!
Pipes has got a mental illness. He’s almost ecstatic over the possibility of striking Iran, and what he is proposing is a war crime, and he has the methods to spread his disease. He ought to be committed for a while.
Avigail Abarbanel is a psychologist and former IDF soldier living in Australia. She writes that she had to leave Israel because the society in Israel has become mean and militarized and she feared for her own sanity. Everyone stays traumatized and it’s become their identity. Israeli’s could choose peace, but that change would be harder than making war because it would require them to re-evalutate their identity as victims, even though somehow they aren’t cognizant of the fact that they have become most powerful and brutish. Anyway, she’s written some insightful articles.

I don’t think that liberals will jump on the bandwagon for more war. We’re tired of it, and many of us are naifs no more. Neocons and authoritarians always will.
It didn’t happen with mr fizzypants… but Michael Chertoff got a 700 million dollar contract for scanner machines.
Monday night at The Yacht Club in the Little Five Points section of Atlanta is political roundtable time at the big table up in front of the bar. It is a mostly liberal group, though other viewpoints are welcome as long as the debate is more or less civil. These liberal folks are different from the kind you refer to willyloman. Almost all of us are disappointed with the Democratic Party today. We are frustrated with Obama and see the corporate influence that is clearly calling the tune in DC. I can tell you right now that not one of these folks would go for a strike on Iran now no matter how slickly packaged the propaganda for such an act might be. Most of us did not support the troop build-up in Afghanistan and are not fans of ‘The Drone War’. Most of us are trying to stay informed through evaluation of varied sources and make decisions regarding our stands on public policy that are not naive or lemming-like. I understand your frustration though, and your piece is a reminder that we must be careful to think and not just believe.
How I miss Little five Points and the culture. Makes me want to drive down and join you all.
Yes Virginia, there are Liberals in Georgia.
If you’re ever in town come on by. Mondays and Fridays are best for ‘fix-the-world’ con-fabs at the front table from about 5pm ’til 8 or so. It’s usually an interesting mix. We’ve got a criminal defence attorney, the head of ‘Veterans for Peace’ in GA and, of all things, a Buddhist Republican in regular attendance. Voices get raised and feathers are often ruffled, but it’s generally just lively debate without things getting personal.
.
That says it. How far we have come.
